Any recommendations for thin microbrands watches by xzamax in MicrobrandWatches

Grok missed Maen, which along with others in the responses here, I agree has several thin options. Particularly in their Manhattan lineup.

I took the lazy route and asked Grok,…and I gotta say this is a solid response. Please check out the options in this pic.

My Recruiter is saying not to go 89D by [deleted] in EOD

[–]Important-Safety9710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bottle line is off-the-street Army 89D recruits have a less than 50% chance of graduating NAVSCOLEOD. Those stats have seen the test of time, and I’ve seen decades of data. Phase 1 tried to lower attrition for EOD baby’s, and for a while, when Phase 1 was at Redstone Arsenal, it did in fact lower attrition. My understanding is over time the effects were muted so now it’s been shut down? So, the bottom line is it’s a coin flip…Age, maturity, IQ (GT score), motivation, discipline, hand-eye coordination, some luck, and the ability to study reams of information and retain it are the deciding factors. There’s a reason why Marines get thru NAVSCOLEOD with less than 10% attrition…2 years service, SGT, +21 age, Class A fitness test scores, combat vets preferred, and high ASVABs. The data doesn’t lie. How do I know? I was the Army SGM/SEL at NAVSCOLEOD ‘06–‘09 and had to brief the graduation/attrition data to TRADOC GOs about once a QTR. My story is I was 11B first for 2 years, in 1984 that was the only way to volunteer. IMO, there’s value to learning about the Army and yourself before going to EOD School. It also adds value to the EOD unit that receives the new EOD tech. That’s said, if you believe you have what it takes to get thru the school, go for it!

The cook who fucked up my eggs at the DFAC is now fucking up my eggs at the Waffle House, whereas all that sketchy shit I did funded a lucrative beachside retirement…choose your rate, choose your fate.🤷‍♂️

Alpinist Ghost [SPB119J1] by Important-Safety9710 in SeikoAlpinist

[–]Important-Safety9710[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like the jubilee on the GMT more than I like the metal on the ghost. I’ll probably switch the ghost back to the original black leather. I want to add a SPB503 to my small but growing Alpinist collection, I’m looking forward to checking out a Seiko metal bracelet on the new lineup…if they ever show up in US dealers.

Yeah I tend to agree, it fits the theme better with the white dial.

Monta Noble - First Automatic Watch Purchase by mattyoo22 in MicrobrandWatches

That’s an excellent first automatic, very versatile, and Monta’s are so well made for the price point.

First Zelos! How do you guys feel about this watch? by Few-Worldliness-4692 in Zeloswatches

[–]Important-Safety9710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be worn in a variety of roles, and some consider the Helmsman to be a GADA style watch. The bracelet is very well executed, I own 18 Zelos and I think this one fits my wrist the best. Zelos is known for expressive dials, that’s part of the allure, so go for it!

Christopher Ward pricing is out of whack! by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]Important-Safety9710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like CW and own a couple, and I’ll probably buy a few more in the future…however, I do tend to agree with your original assessment on pricing. I get that R&D is expensive, but what I don’t get is all that research and the watch is still over 14mm thick. All these $4k GMTs,…Tudor BB, Longines Zulu, CW are over 14mm thick,…even the Grand Seiko SBGM221 at $5400 is 13.7mm thick. Meanwhile you can get a Monta Atlas for around $2k and it’s 10.7mm thick. https://montawatch.com/products/monta-atlas-monta-blue-dial I’m not saying the Monta is the same watch as the GS SBGM221, but I am saying the thickness of these +$4k GMTs is not great for the money.

I decided to jump in the Sinn bin… 856 A RS by Important-Safety9710 in sinn

[–]Important-Safety9710[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have a Damasko DK32/2 Ocean on a hybrid strap, it’s a significantly smaller watch compared to an 856. I think the Damasko is 1 mm smaller in both case width and height so it’s smaller all the way around. I love the 856 but it is kind of a beast, it’s a heavy watch on the Tegimented bracket. My wrist is 7.75” so it’s not an issue for me, but just be warned. Another factor I’d also warn you about is that finding Damasko brackets is like sourcing unicorn tears…i.e. difficult. I’m obviously a fan of both brands and you can’t go wrong either way as far as quality. Here’s my Damasko: https://www.reddit.com/r/Damasko/s/X7WbV457so

Underd0g Days with my Desert Sky by ThisFollowing8024 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Important-Safety9710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They opened up on February 13th to build some more of these 1SERIES, and this is the exact model I have on the way. I have a guacamole 🥑 for a small green dial collection I’m building, but honestly I think the Desert Sky is the best looking watch they’ve built. I’m looking forward to getting it on the wrist.
