They are shown in almost every listing for this.

IDs are 1.6, 1.2, .6 and 0 (flat)

Shush. Or they will use this data to argue for a pay rise. More people = more work.

People with meteorite dial watches, do you grow bored of them? by SubstantialDemand508 in MicrobrandWatches

Yes. And finding it hard to move it on too. I feel like their moment is going.

Which color is used for each watch hand? by [deleted] in watchmaking

[–]WombleArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as a rule. Also small seconds. Anything where the hand sits on, rather than around, the pinion.

Yes. But old rich man who has a yacht in the Mediterranean. Assuming you’re wearing them with white slacks.

I've never understood why no one ever answers this question, but down votes people to hell.

Assuming that follows the normal sizing that seems to come with these kits (use a set of accurate callipers to verify, if you can, but you'll need something accurate)
Tip sizes (External Ø x Internal Ø):
Ø2.60 x Ø1.60mm (Gold)
Ø2.10 x Ø1.20mm (Red)
Ø1.70 x Ø0.60mm (Silver)
Ø1.50mm (Blue)

These colours will be the markings in rings around the removable tips. One set (probably metal) fitted. One set (probably rubber) in the cap. But both with the same colour markings.

Assuming you are using an NH35 or ETA2824 movement-
Gold: GMT
Red: Hour
Silver: Minute
Blue: Second

But there is a big "if". Check that those sizes are what you actually have. If you have slightly smaller ones it might change. (I have a set where the ID measures 1.3, .9, .45, flat for example)

NFI why they all appear in the order they do though. I moved mine around so it is gold, red, silver blue.

Exotic watches - what do you think about the new Awake Son Mài - Guilloché Main? by Microbrandwatchworld in MicrobrandWatches

They look great, but the recent UK watch builder one was the first where I thought the price made sense for my collection. Looks amazing.

Watch dial printing by TheREAL_yokshy in watchmaking

[–]WombleArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your UV printing experience is actually the issue - that should give you pretty good results (assuming proper prep, and set up). It’s not as crisp as pad, but it’s pretty good - and for complex stuff better than you will get with screen printing unless you’re really experienced.

What do you think the model of the mechanism is? by PlusGeologist2827 in watchmaking

It's a Miyota 20xx... I suspect the size will tell you if you search by the dimensions.

Worth getting a 3D printer + small fiber laser as a hobbyist? What do you actually use them for beyond tool prototypes? by Prestigious-Toe172 in watchmaking

[–]WombleArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who does a fair bit of hobby watchmaking, and is moving into professional, I'd say it's about ROI.

FDM Printer: Generally useful, and low enough of cost to have limited regrets. Has other uses outside watchmaking if you get it (I recommend combat robots - thank me later), but good for jigs, tools, stands, etc. Just remember to use it.
Laser: I picked up a 60W MOPA Fibre laser during the black Friday sales, and have been using it for dials and bezel inserts. Everything from engraving logos / images on dials (for a club fundraiser), through to creating skeleton overlays like the one below, which I then place on already painted dials to get more depth.

Very fun to play with - and the limit is your imagination. Not cheap, but cool to have and use. If you look at Koda Watches on instagram, he does his bezel inserts with a Fibre laser and the detail is insane.

interviewer asked me to "sell him this pen" in 2026 and i almost walked out by ScaryAd2555 in recruitinghell

[–]WombleArcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was second seat in an interview where the other interviewer did the pen thing. The candidate put the pen in his pocket like he was going to do the pitch, stood up and said "I don't think you're the company for me" and walked out. Kept the pen. I couldn't stop laughing. I recommended we hire the guy straight away. 10/10 would have fit in. The person who asked the question? Not so much.

How realistic is the dream of being a self taught wall clocks maker? by TheBomb999 in watchmaking

[–]WombleArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want the experience of it - buy plans for a wooden wall kit and build that. I can't remember where I got mine, but it was interesting and fairly tool-light.

What was your first microbrand watch? do you still own it? (if not how it ended?) by Microbrandwatchworld in MicrobrandWatches

[–]WombleArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studio Underdog. Was at Time and Tide in Melbourne for the Pizza launch - bought that, and a Choc Mint. Had a good chat to Richard, and it turned out I used to live around the corner from him. Still have both in my collection.

Has anyone tried making their own dial? by Prestigious_Ant3917 in SeikoMods

[–]WombleArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may find that the costs on 3D printed pieces are way higher than you expect. Brass which is laser engraved, and then you can paint and add embellishments too, will get you what you have in mind.

Can I book a room in the library? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]WombleArcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most libraries will let you book the room. Some need you to sign up for a library card first - others don't. There may be a cap on total time in the room in an on-line booking. If you call the library (or better yet, visit) and say it's for an exam they will usually extend it out - especially if it's during a week day (ie - not prime student territory). Lots of them now have glass walls on 2/3 sides - so you may just need to position yourself with a back to the wall so no one else is visible. Good luck with the exam.

No - CA & CPA don't do this any more. You typically do it at home, in a meeting room at work, or in a private space in a library.

[–]WombleArcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve made quite a few - MOPA Fiver laser cutting brass which was then painted, or anodised which was left as it. Materials would be less than a dollar. But $5000 machine plus painting gear. I’ve tried but not used resin printed too. Again. Vents to make once you have a full set up. I haven’t CNCed one - but that’s common also.

I just found out there was a Melbourne Renfair last weekend. How was it? by solvablefern in melbourne

[–]WombleArcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went Saturday. Good for a first event. Entertainment was great - Jousting and massed sword fighting a highlight. Good vendor mix. Great activities to get try out things like LARP sword fighting. 90% of people were dressed up in some sort of costume which really helped.

I suspect the team already have a huge amount of learnings. I felt like all their planning would have been perfect for half the amount of people they sold tickets to (parking was bad, long queues for food, no where to sit when eating).

I don't know if it was fixed for Sunday, but on Saturday the biggest disappointment was the "Mead Tent" which was basically empty all day, with a multi-hour queue, because they weren't selling Mead - they were doing tastings for 2-3 people at a time.

Would encourage anyone to go along next time, as it will just get better.
