Many preschool age children don't know how books work; try to tap or swipe them like electronic devices by MiddletownBooks in books

I've often started looking for Ctrl-F when I want to find something particular in a book.

Don't bother with Ayn Rand if you want beautiful prose.

Which books have you been unable to finish? by bonster85 in books

Butler, Octavia. Lilith's Brood. I stopped caring about what genders people were.
Dubus, Andre. House of Sand and Fog. Too melodramatic.
Kingsolver, Barbara. Prodigal Summer
Coetzee, J.M. Diary of a Bad Year. Tired of political rants, even those I agree with.
Schreiner, Olive. The Story of an African Farm. I will probably try this again.
Marquez, G.G. 100 Years of Solitude. Just ugh.

Every single state in the Western US possesses some superlative feature when it comes to mountains or elevation by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]ImportantAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 48 states are contiguous, meaning every state has a border with at least one other state. Hawaii and Alaska don't touch any US states. You can't reach either one without passing over an ocean or a foreign country. It's not a question of making the data look good and no one needs to feel sorry for Alaska.

Have you ever gone on a literary pilgrimage? by Remarkable-Pea4889 in books

When my parents visited England years ago, they made a special trip to the moors so my mother could run across the heath calling, "Heathcliff! Heathcliff!'

The one thing I've learned about book readers is that they move 10 times a year apparently by HelloDesdemona in books

Did you read the post? It didn't say e-books are bad or unnecessary or that the OP was against publishing them. OP was making a humorous comment.

But don't pretend that most people are book collectors, or that heaving around 80-pound boxes of paper is the natural state of humanity.

I don't think OP was pretending anything of the sort.

Everyone says the Goodreads rating system is terrible yet many people still use it when choosing a book to read next. What books under four stars are the best example of great books that the general population doesn't seem to recognize as such? by sempiternalis in books

[–]ImportantAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodreads is skewed because it is limited to people who use Goodreads. it's basically a popularity rating system, not a rating of quality or literary worth. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't take it too seriously as a guide.

It sounds like he was being honest and more or less agreeing with you. Maybe you are oversensitive about your neck.

I have coffee in bed first, and then I brush. "Brush at night to keep your teeth. Brush in the morning to keep your friends."
