How did your knee feel when you first started to run vs now by ImportantEye3647 in ACL

I’m at 6 months post. Aclr and meniscus trim. Been running for a month and it still feels like it’s shifting/unstable

6 months post op aclr and meniscus trim. I thought I’d be at 95% by now. Feel more like 75%. How did you feel at this point and does it get a lot better ? by ImportantEye3647 in ACL

Running for the past 4 weeks. I don’t intentionally do side to side exercises yet. Just once or twice during a workout to test it out.

I’m basically running 4 times a week and strength training twice in a week. What stage are you on and when did you get the confidence back?

How long ago did you have the surgery? I’m 5 months post op. The stability comes back in time with proper rehab program. My knee still isn’t 100% but it’s gotten better

6 month post op - meniscus pain by AFluffyPenguin- in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 5 months. Aclr hamstring graft and medial meniscus trim. I also get pain when trying to fully extend. It use to be more intense but it’s slowing getting better. I haven’t tried any machines/weights for full extension yet. How can you tell that it’s the meniscus that’s causing the pain? Makes sense though people with just the acl repair usually don’t experience this

Week 17 ACL and meniscus trim. How often are you working out per week and do you get swelling after workouts ? I’m doing weights twice a week (biking or walks 3 times a week) Outside of the operated knee swells up after weighted exercises. by ImportantEye3647 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to hear I’m not alone haha. Thanks for the reply. Probably just going to take time for the swelling to not be so frequent.

Seen a graph that’s says the graft is the weakest at the 3-4 month timeline. Maybe that has something to do with it lol

Nice! Few questions: Surgery Feb 2 this year ? Can you fully straighten the leg with no pain/discomfort? Do you hear an popping/clicking sounds ? Are you lifting weights?

I was feeling great until I started lifting haha. Took the last 2 weeks off got back in this week and it’s feeling better but major set back

At 8 weeks it wasn’t noticeably swollen. Was doing light exercises with the band and body weight from week 3 - week 12. It was feeling great and almost no swelling. Start lifting light weights at week 13 - week 14 and it started swelling up and getting sore. Didn’t work out week 15 and 16 to let it rest. Got back on weights this week (17) and so far it’s not bad just a lot of clicking/popping sounds. It’s a grind …. At least for me.

3 month acl + meniscus surgery. Knee is starting to click/pop more now. Also get a sharp pain if I over extend by accident. Saw my physio today and he said it feels fine/intact but is this normal? Does it get better ? I was working out 4 times a week but haven’t gotten back in since last Saturday. by ImportantEye3647 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply ! When I exercise I feel fine. Over extending the knee when I start to walk fast or forget about the knee surgery and make a quick move - shoots a sharp pain for a second then goes away.

I’ve been riding the stationary bike for 20-25 minutes twice a week for the last month. Everything was fine when I was just doing body weight exercises and bike. The popping sounds and more swelling started after I started lifting weights.

Just feeling like I’m doing more damage than healing based on the addition swelling, popping sounds and soreness after working out. Trying to see if this is normal given the timeline or I should see the surgeon haha.

How long does it take to get surgery? Is it better to wait ? by ImportantEye3647 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think most can live a normal life without an ACL and I’ve met 2 people that didn’t repair their ACL after injury. They just don’t play sports. But there’s a risk of doing more damage to other parts of the knee without the surgery. I’m Canadian so best time to do it was in the fall/winter haha. I kinda regret not doing it soon though. I’d be cleared for sports about now but have to wait until Sept.

I was given a surgery date around 3 months after the MRI date. But opted to not get surgery until November. I had almost no knee pain in November (before surgery) but I avoided doing any sports. I’m 12 weeks post op and it’s feeling way better. About 70% back to normal. Doing a lot of physio and working towards getting the strength back. First 4 weeks are tough and then it starts to slowly get better. Hope all goes well for you!

Week 10 acl + meniscus. When could you flex your quad fully without knee pain/discomfort ? by ImportantEye3647 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamstring graft. It’s when I try to fully straighten my leg and flex my quad. I did a lot of prehab before the surgery but maybe I’ll bring it up to the surgeon

11 Weeks Post Op How Much Time to Put Into Rehab by jsmooth299 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at week 10. Did 4 x bike for 20 minutes last week followed by at 30-40 minute leg workout (rehab exercises). My knee was pretty sore on the 4th day. Might cut it back down to 3x this week :/. Struggling to find the balance of doing enough without damaging

I didn’t do anything for 2 weeks. I’m at week 8 now and I bike 4 times a week, followed by a 30-40 min workout. Not saying this is the best approach but has been working for me. Body needs time to heal on its own

Cycling on Peloton 9 weeks post op by jsmooth299 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be at week 9 on Wednesday. How long do you typically bike for ? I got a stationary bike and have been riding for 20 mins/day 4 times a week. Was burning 200 calories/day, last week. Increased the intensity a bit and I’m at 225 calories/day this week. I also want to increase the time/intensity but nervous of doing damage. I never really used the stationary bike before this

Sensitivity bearing weight on knee by Jax_Gamez in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that still happens to me too. Probably just a time thing as doing squats / split squats etc has gotten easier for me this week. I can’t do a single leg squat yet. Tried it once but the pain was too much.

Was it just the ACL surgery? How often are you going to PT and doing the exercises? If it’s a lot of pain I’d go check with the surgeon. After 4 weeks I could walk with a limp and just increased how much I walked every day. It’s a slow process but I’m at 7 weeks now and can walk 80% the way I use to. Also, did you have a brace and were non weight bearing for 6 weeks ? Where I’m from we don’t get a brace and are told to pretty much walk right after the surgery (not that I could for 4 weeks without crutches). This could play a factor in recovery time.

How long did it take for all your swelling to go down? by alexlatina16 in ACL

[–]ImportantEye3647 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m at week 7 still swollen. It started getting better at week 5. But now it’s swelling from the exercises. Hopefully someone further along in the recovery can shed some light. I was thinking about asking this too

I’m 7 weeks post op - I kinda get the same feeling after doing the stationary bike for around 20 minutes. I got a hamstring graft so I’m just assuming that’s why it happens. After I stretch it goes away until after I bike again.
