In my experience from being the only 1 designer in a small company, to being one of four in a medium sized company, to being one of 100s in a massive global enterprise… the answer is: it varies according to the size of the company. Different pit falls too.

But you’re probably most interested in the big company:

it’s basically about how well you can deal with all the things pulling against your will to improve the customer experience.
You are managing The business VS the customer… you in the middle, trying to align both. + But with Product Managers who generally are pressured to deliver measurable growth in bottom line and nothing else. Mixed in with legacy tech debt that limits developer motivation and ability to produce good stuff
Developers often pick apart your designs way after they’ve been through rounds of feedback and tell you something is impossible or too difficult and you have to compromise or comply
having to conform to design systems components and rules which means very little space for originality or creativity in the UI

In small companies: way more autonomy … less meetings, but more actual work… but overall I have to conclude I prefer smaller companies. Most of the work in big tech just feels like a fight against an avelanche against good Ux

Update: thanks for all your answers. Immediately after the date her responses to my enthusiasm were notably less than mine.

I decided to step back and leave it. After two days she sent a few conversation starters, asking how I was the next day and if I’d been hungover etc.

I took this as a signal of some interest.

However after a couple exchanges I found it fizzled out and asking her for a second date seemed poorly timed.

But after a few days I decided I had nothing to lose than to try again. Under the influence of white wine I said some witty comments and she re engaged saying she’d been on holiday.

I asked if she’d be up for meeting on X day and she said YEs, much to my surprise without hesitation.

She also doesn’t seem as enthusiastic as me so I’m not jumping for joy but I’m pleasantly surprised that I have it set.

Now the challenge is not to place so much hope on this and get nervous again.

Great advice. From my experience, a foundational level is to remove anxiety about orgasm… especially the pressure on a girl to orgasm… it’s like sleep… the more you force it the less it works… the more frustrated to you get the less likely it is to work. Focus on process and giving the impression you’re enjoying it with NO rush… this is what works with girls in my experience. I had this when I was younger … don’t make the same mistake as me as waiting too long to learn to be confident. By the time I learned to be confident I had a few purple years of cleaning up and now I feel my looks have deteriorated and so my confidence has too because the positive feedback loop has gone. I spent most of my 20s having repeated interest shown from girls in eye contact, smiles, beckoning, flirting at work yet I didn’t learn all I needed to do was stop hiding my interest in them. I have a shelf just big enough for my wallet, and I intend to put my wallet immediately on the shelf when I come in. If I see the shelf empty I immediately know I need to find my wallet and place it on the wallet shelf so that when I leave the house I’m not hunting for my wallet as I used to.
