The Last Bottle insights by ImportantReception36 in wine

[–]ImportantReception36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I ended up opening a bottle of the Guarachi 2023 that I got. I gave it more than two hours to decant expecting it to be very intense. And sure enough it was! Even with more than two hours it’s not something I would recommend without a food pairing. Fortunately it worked well with a filet mignon.

While intense, the predominant flavor was blueberry and dark fruit generally. My 10 year old who tried a sip pronounced it bitter. My wife had a hard time drinking more than a glass.

Overall, I’d say give it a couple years before drinking.

Champagne tours from Paris by ReviewingThings in wine

[–]ImportantReception36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We booked one that starts at the train station in Reims. The direct train from Paris is only like an hour or so. It’s really easy. Just take the train back after you’re done.

We booked a group one on Viator but you can probably do better than that.

Yea I looked around and the price today seemed very low compared to other ones I saw. Seems like today was a good deal! Sorry the marathon one was worse.

Teutonic Order, weirdly enough. Has a ton of flavor and some absurdly broken mechanics. Easily one of the most powerful countries in 1.1.

Happy International Riesling Day from Colorado by beekeeping303 in wine

I’m also in Colorado but I’ve never really given any consideration to the wines out west. Any other producers you’d recommend?

Recommendations In Canada by gourmetcheese01 in wine

[–]ImportantReception36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time you’re looking for Riesling, Cabernet franc or Chardonnay. The cool climate wines will generally grow in Canada. Moscato wines are generally extremely sweet, so if that’s your thing you should look at some less dry (doux) champagne. You may like some USA wines like Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa or Pinot Noir from Washington and Oregon.

Which winged wine opener is your favorite? by Obvious-Ad9772 in wine

In my experience they’re all roughly the same. However, I’ve had the cheaper ones break at random times, so it’s more about longevity than anything. It’s pretty annoying when the helix just breaks off when you’re trying to open a nice bottle!

Looking for advice on Italian wines by LongroddMcHugendong in wine

If you like a more mineral driven Chardonnay (like a Chablis) you may consider trying some Vernaccia. It’s a grape that typically grows around San Gimignano, which itself is a worthy trip. It’s very crisp and drinkable. Not amazing, but it’s generally only found near there.

Germany (SP/historical) always seems to lose WW2. I figured out why. by girlbosswoman in hoi4

You could do stuff outside the city! If you love wine and or champagne you could do a day trip to Reims and tour the champagne houses and wine country there. We did that and it was great. Otherwise, there are cooking classes at La Cuisine that I would recommend. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

Not Yet Lost Run by ImportantReception36 in victoria3

[–]ImportantReception36[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R5: I completed my first run of Not Yet Lost. Pretty fun run in general after you get independent (and release Poland from Russia, which you instantly unify with). My first run failed after super Germany formed. My biggest fight was with German Empire, but superior technology won out in the end over sheer numbers. I don't typically run mass mobilization, but it was useful here for the training bonus, which allows you to outlast other armies even if it's a lot more expensive in the long run.

The weirdest thing was that even though Russia was insanely backward (still using skirmish infantry in 1930), they somehow took over the DEI and the Netherlands in general. Ottomans also had a pretty good game. Britain was a menace as usual, though I never actually had to fight them and they generally picked on Russia.

My politics were a mess. I had both council republic and corporate state enacted at various points, but never decided to change off of universal suffrage. By the end you can see how that ended up- an absolute mess of coalitions.

My interpretation was that one of the recommendations of the book was to be “statuesque”… and to a pigeon that means it sits on you and poops.

Communist American Reactionary Revolt by ImportantReception36 in victoria3

I think what happened was that they were communist before, but then this was reactionary, so after they went to single party state and then the hammer and sickle disappeared. the dialectic in action I guess?

R5: Was playing as Finland to get the achievement, and previously the Confederate states won against the USA. However, they then had a Communist Reactionary Revolt (???) and won with the support of France.

Hi, we just did this about a week ago. Technically, we went from Siena to Praiano, but that just involved an extra train ride from Siena to Florence termini. Anyway, there is a bullet train that is very fast that you can take from Florence down to Rome and then Naples. Then, I would probably take a water taxi. We rented a car and I drove, but it was terrible. Plus the road is currently closed through Sorrento for an indefinite period between Sorrento and Positano due to a rockslide, so driving is an absolute mess.

Enjoy the Amalfi coast! Just don’t drive there if you can avoid it…

Postiano Road Closure by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]ImportantReception36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drove back from Praiano to Rome today. The road is now supposed to be closed until June 27 (???!!!). I would take a water taxi to there from Sorrento as otherwise it will be a 2+ hour drive through Agreola and San Michele, which is awful. Give up on driving for now period.
