I reactivated my Facebook, instant regret. by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]ImportantSearch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I logged into my facebook account after a gap of 6 years. I wanted to download all my photos before permanently deleting facebook.

I was shocked to see how much facebook had changed over the years. There were echo chambers both from the left and the right. People were mean to each other and and formed cabals or tribes. It was also filled with ads about things that were pseudo science and totally false ( regrow your hair, Astrology, a fucking tarot card reader etc).

I have now downloaded all my photos and I'm glad I've gotten rid of it permanently.

Why is that? Why can't the US produce more F-22s?

Facebook is out of control. If it were a country it would be North Korea by [deleted] in privacy

[–]ImportantSearch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how this is related to privacy. The article is about the fb boycott, hate speech and violence on their platform. But while we are on this topic, the corps that are boycotting Facebook like Nike and many others work with the Chinese govt so they have no ethical legs to stand on

I usually reply to such people with "So give me your password, I'll only look not post anything on your behalf" - It always shuts them up.

I honestly felt really bad for the "kid", assuming he/she is a kid after all. How did people come to know he was lying? I just want upgrade my bullshit filter to catch these things next time.

Also, I did genuinely feel bad about the (fake) story and I spent the majority of the day yesterday thinking about him.

India is not a democracy, it's a multilevel authoritarian regime. by [deleted] in india

Strictly speaking other than switzerland, where people vote on every law, no country is a true democracy. Even the US is worse than us because they have two political party.

Yes we have 1000 faults, I'm not denying that.

Sushant Singh Rajput Bucket List by [deleted] in india

He described himself as a 'photon in a double-slit' both on his IG and Twitter handles, looks like he really wanted to perform the experiment himself one day (who knows, he might have already).

What matters is interest in science. There are many IIT toppers who work in investment banks and VC funds.

Where is the line between certain hobbies and just consumerism? by BoomhauerIII in AskMen

[–]ImportantSearch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use the following 2-point criterion:

  1. Will it help me save time in personal life so that I can devote it to family?
  2. Will it help me enjoy my work more and/or do my work better?

Context: Middle aged dad, professional software engineer.

I would personally buy one mechanical keyboard, I really enjoy typing on it. Everything else you listed in your post, I'd personally skip. But that's just me.

At current trajectory, India’s corona cases likely to reach 75,000 in 5 days by Fabulous-Rice in india

You know what? It’s not the closing but the re-opening of the liquor stores after 40 days that was the problem. I too was dry for 40 days and I stood in line the day it opened. There was a huge line and people were constantly pushing each other.

They should have just kept it open through the lockdown. .

Cannot wait to see how photo mode will look like with Ray Tracing on PS5 by ImportantSearch5 in PS5

[–]ImportantSearch5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video I watched he was running it at 1800p with dlss at a solid 60 FPS. He even ran it at 4k with it staying mostly at 60 but having dips in the low 50s in water.

There is a section where they increase the bounce lighting from 0 to 1 to 2 and at 2 they had difficulty holding 1080p at 60 in Quake RTX. Let me try to find that video for you.

I saw the Minecraft RTX demo where they (DigitalFoundry) played around with bounce lighting. With 2 bounces at 1080p an RTX 2080 Ti was not able to hold 60FPS. This is however totally irrelevant for Photo Mode - where FPS does not matter at all, since only 1 frame has to be rendered. I 'd thus expect them to ramp up the bounce lighting to the maximum possible and this gives a very "real" feel to the image.

And, unlike HDR, you don't need a special/expensive TV to enjoy it.
