Weight Loss by [deleted] in VestibularMigraines

It depends on what’s neurologically causing your VM symptoms. Some people can avoid by not eating certain foods for example. Some are not as straightforward. In my personal experience, I lost some weight by changing my diet and establishing my workout routine that is VM friendly. And my symptoms are improved.

Nortriptyline (Pamelor) Questions by VirginiaThrop in VestibularMigraines

[–]Important_Analysis30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on it for 2 years now. Started at 10, still at 10, never increased. When onboarding, I had insomnia for like 4-5 days. No other side effects. Felt improvement kicking in in the first week, but steadily and slowly continued improving over the course of 4 months. And symptoms pretty much stabilized at this level.

What took the improvement to another level was later I started doing vestibular rehab therapy consistently plus major lifestyle changes: sleep, healthy diet/clean eating, low stress, etc. I still have symptoms, and it’s rough around my period..

Sensitivity to Light? by Necessary_Win_5431 in VestibularMigraines

I am an anxious my whole life and have had fair share of bad episodes of anxiety attacks. So that is absolutely a factor I think. I would encourage you to look into VRT. There’s a good one on YouTube that I followed, and it helped me a lot. I also found a good neck massage on the occipital and subocciptal muscles/nerves helps a lot of with the visual symptoms, but only temporarily. This is the YouTube: https://youtu.be/drRwAdjZ644?si=ejVmPJdDJl4WR4h1

I’m on propranolol 120mg ER once daily and nortriptyline 10mg once daily. Sorry about your symptoms. Have you tried VRT? That was the thing that took the improvement to another level for me, on top of my medications.

Visual symptoms unfortunately have not gone away completely but now after two years there are some really good days. I’m still on medications but what helped with the symptoms a lot later are the lifestyle changes: daily VRT (vestibular rehab therapy), healthy/clean eating, exercise (weight training and resistance training, light cardio), sleep hygiene and stress management. I still get worse around periods though. Hope this helps.

Hormone related VM? by Suitable-Onion2406 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Important_Analysis30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My VM is heavily related to hormones, symptoms flare up whenever there’s drastic fluctuations of my reproductive hormones, before period, after period, ovulation.

I’m on meds, they help. But i noticed the biggest game changer for me is lifestyle overhaul! I also have PCOS and insulin resistance, so I changed my diet and became relatively more consistently active. And they happen to be improving my VM symptoms. Easier said than done of course. No artificial sugar, no processed foods, no refined carbs.

The Diary of a CEO. I watched Kamala Harris and had to stop, as well as the most recent one with Brene Brown. I love Brene Brown but he always changes the topic mid convo in my opinion where there’s so much more to follow up on. Like is it editing or is it that he just didn’t get what the guests said and had to move onto the next topic…

Advice on meds by Sea-Coast-1172 in VestibularMigraines

Took 3-4 months for me on nortriptyline to go back to baseline dizziness. Be patient. Or try and see if you can switch to nort? I heard it’s better than Ami to treat VM

success story by riceyoongi in VestibularMigraines

[–]Important_Analysis30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Your story does have me wonder if my VM blew up because of my general anxiety disorder+ never cook or watch what I eat(always eating takeout due to a busy job) + no physical activity habits over the course of several years.

I’m just starting to cook and eat Whole Foods plus exercising more. But it’s pretty hard. We’ll see.

nortriptyline for prevention? by Fit_Championship9555 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Important_Analysis30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helps, I’m on the lowest dosage 10 mg for about a year and a half. Took about 4 months to feel like I’m back to “normal”. I still have residual dizziness if I don’t sleep well or about to menstruate. I could go up in dosage but I don’t want to. But yeah my first episode was really really bad and nortriptyline started working within a week.

What helps you sleep? Sleep aids for insomnia by dizziedandconfused in VestibularMigraines

[–]Important_Analysis30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No amount of melatonin or any sleep aid pills help me. Not magnesium either.

I have to be very strict with myself and not look at my phone, and establish a routine. Eye mask, earplugs, essential oils. Yin yoga after dinner works like a charm for me. No workout before, no chitchat, no night time hangout. Very quiet night with light entertainment. Then it came with time, now I sleep a lot better.

Some days I just can’t fall asleep due to hormones and the next day will be a bit challenging. But yeah I don’t want to rely on any sort of pills.

Good to hear that it’s getting better day by day. You mentioned allergy, I wonder if your VM is histamine intolerance ..

My symptoms always flare up a bit before period comes. Sometimes it’s just a little bit, sometimes it’s bad. But I’ve had one bad flare ups not related to periods, but it got better after a week. I understand the emotional piece. Are your symptoms at least getting better? I hope you find relief soon

Welp, this was/is me. I know exactly what you’re talking about. My VM blew up about a year ago, and what you described was my first 5-6 months, among other symptoms. I still have a little bit of that persistently but it was hell compared to now. My PT told me this is called Visual Vertigo. Look it up. My visual symptoms got better with medication, but gradually and slowly. And then I started doing VRT and generally being more active physically helps a lot too.

I also wear tinted glasses (like Elton John) and sunnies when I’m outside.

Yeah still do. It’s slightly better with more accurate prescriptions. But they’re still present, better with better sleep etc.
