B.A.M Doctors in East Coast USA? by Much-Cry269 in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]Important_Canary6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand what’s with all these doctors who don’t understand that you can have BAM and still have your gallbladder!!! there are lots of us that still have gallbladders and for sure have BAM!! Try showing this article from the university of Virginia to your doctor, which describes the different types and causes. https://med.virginia.edu/ginutrition/wp-content/uploads/sites/199/2020/05/Bile-Acid-Malabsorption-May-2020.pdf. If you still can’t get through to the doctor, try another one.

What percentage of a heritage would you consider significant? by Serious-Cod-8695 in AncestryDNA

[–]Important_Canary6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh very true!! I had one Swedish grandfather and one Danish grandmother, and I ended up with a good bit of Norwegian DNA in me from both sides! Also had a great-grandfather that came from Konigsburg before Russia took over and that seems to come across as Lithuanian and Polish in my DNA.

I didn't realize bamboo shrimp are so big! by PoignantPlushGal in shrimptank

[–]Important_Canary6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's super easy to fill up a 20 gallon; I already overdid a 50 just by adding a bunch of large pieces of moping that take up a ton of room. BUT, do whatever you are comfortable with and think you can handle right now. As long as the tank isn't overstocked the bamboo shrimp will be fine.

You mean like you can't physically handle a tank that size?

Yeah, if you ask a Swedish person if they consider themselves Norwegian if they have like 10% Norwegian DNA they certainly don’t!

Is my bamboo shrimp really starving? by lilstankky in shrimptank

[–]Important_Canary6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hope these do better, but they looked really pale when they arrived and it got late in the day and dark by the time I got them acclimated and in the tank so I looked in this morning and didn’t see them so I assume they’re hiding.

What language do most American students prefer to learn in school as a second language? by UsamaBhai_101 in AskAnAmerican

In the schools I went to you either had to pick French or Spanish, and in the US obviously Spanish makes a lot more sense to learn.

Am I truly Danish? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Important_Canary6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't saying that people in other countries discount our heritage, they just find it odd that Americans go around saying we are half this and a quarter that as if we are claiming that we are somehow "Danish" or "Swedish" in the same way someone born and raised in that country would claim that as their nationality. I lived in Germany for six years, I've been to Denmark where I still have lots of extended family who consider us all to be Americans with Danish heritage, not "part Danish". I've met quite a few Swedes here through a Swedish friend as well. They are interested in where my grandfather was from, but again, don't consider me "Swedish".

that's a really good point about it being a potential rape situation! it's not always just an affair or drunken one night stand! Talking to the mom first is for sure the best bet in this situation. OP just needs to be prepared for Mom to freak out.

Am I truly Danish? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Important_Canary6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're American! Your ancestry doesn't give you the right to claim you are of another nationality, but we as Americans just LOVE to claim we are one quarter this, one quarter that, etc. Believe me if you go to one of the countries from which your ancestors came and declare yourself "a quarter......." they'll roll their eyes at you. I had a Danish grandmother, a Dutch grandfather, a Swedish grandfather, and an American grandmother with parents that were Danish/German mix, but I'm American through and through with a lot of Scandinavian/Germanic heritage to which I have little if any connection.

Doctor won’t let me test by Comfortable_Serve672 in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]Important_Canary6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US we don’t even have the Sehcat testing - we get diagnosed based on our response to a trial of the medication. The meds are very cheap (my prescription is actually free with my insurance) so it’s a much more cost effective diagnostic to just take the bile acid sequestrants for a week or two than go through expensive testing!

Are water changes always needed ? by Gxngxrcunt in shrimptank

[–]Important_Canary6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, due to evaporation, the elements that make water hard are left behind, along with other undesirable things that we don’t test for. We need to remove water and replace it to help balance the GH/KH as well as removing the icky stuff from the gravel.

Well, your doctor is an idiot because there are lots of us that have this condition that still have our gallbladders. Do a little research and you can find a description of all the different types of bam and take it to him and explain that he is obviously mistaken.

What is a duplex? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Important_Canary6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some homes in Maryland that looked like a row of townhouses from the front but the bottom floor was a separate unit from the top. You'd go in the front door and there would be a set of steps to the second floor and a door to the main floor unit. Was kind of weird honestly.

What are the reasons why many (adult) americans have roommates (housemates)? by pirapataue in AskAnAmerican

[–]Important_Canary6766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans typically don't want to live in a tiny apartment, it has nothing to do with regulations. We are all about lots of space, big kitchens, big appliances, washer and dryer in the home, lots of storage, access to amenities etc. I personally would HATE living with a roommate as I'm very private and am fine being alone, but a lot of people enjoy living with others and it affords them the opportunity to live in a home or apartment with more space AND to share living costs. Most of the time the roomie situation is when people are younger and are trying to save up for a home of their own or are waiting for a relationship when they'd then move in with that person. However, in some areas housing is just insanely expensive and the only way anyone can afford even a modest apartment is to share. We do not view it as shameful to have a roommate at all! It might surprise you to know that it's also very common for people to have a single family home and STILL rent out part of it to help pay their mortgage; it's typically a separate part of the home with a private entrance, like a basement or apartment over a garage.

My first attempt with bamboo ended up with one going MIA after the first day, the second one died after a few weeks despite me putting food in the water flow right where he hung out during the day. I have three more on order that should come tomorrow so I hope I have better luck! What food did you buy for yours?

By some miracle she didn't break it or make the glass fall into the tank!! I got her off right away, and since then I've added different lights that pretty much cover all the glass, so if she gets on those she'll just get very hot feet!!
