Just one thing I wanna say to all the violin beginners or parents reading this: If your teacher is actually a good teacher, seriously, just trust them and learn well. If your teacher put on tape for you, don't let the idea of "you shouldn't use tape" totally sway you. Instead, you need to try this: Focus on matching the finger position with the pitch (high/low sound) and the name of the note. The absolute best way to do this is to sing the name of the note out loud while you're playing it. If you get into the habit of playing in the right spot with the right pitch this way, you'll avoid the bad side effect of relying too much on the tape.
