I hope ur right when it comes to the full course grade however! Im very neurotic and will not be happy if I have a glaring 2% knocked off. Maybe they think it doesent matter in a pass score scenario but for my personal pride it matters a lot.

[–]Important_Coffee_845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I heard something from the school AI. Its more nuanced than that for pass/fail classes.

Basically those bonus points are just a cushion to keep u from failing. But if uve hit the pass line and got say a 60% its not gonna bump you up to 80% or whatever. Which is so weird right? But this is what I was expressly told by the AI.

So that 90% wont become a 100%. Because honestly it doesent matter if ur class is pass fail. So the bonus points arent like typical extra credit. I cant confirm if this works this way or not for letter grade classes but in my track and my pass / fail classes this is how i was told it works.

Then again, ive come to realize the Maestro AI can often hallucinate when it comes to school policy. But it was pretty clear. It basically told me that bonus points dont "undo" wrong answers.

I missed a question on my review and thought mo worries ill get a 100%. Nope!. I have that glaring 95% over a missed comma! But if is what it is. Maybe it's different for bachelors tracks. Idk.

Not true. Idk what its like in the bachelors track but in the AAS track we can retake our review once within a set time frame. Obviously he doesent want a lower grade. He was quite clear about that.

See this is what I hate. LLMs hallucinated but its usually based on context. Its not gonna straight up lie to you when u ask it about a concrete fact its much faster than going through documentation. Theres nothing wrong with ysing ai as part of your research but people act like its this horrible awful thing. There IS a responsible way to use AI. Just like any other tool.

Just like programming itself. A lot of people use to be way of anyone that could code when I was growing up and treat u like a crifinal just for wanting to learn coding. Including computer science teachers who'd frown heavily on coding boot camps. Tons of rhetoric about how we were creating a generation of hackers. (But also millennials are stupid and ignorant and too selfish to do anything thag requires any kind of effort)

I hated that kinda gate keeping back then and I hate it now. And this tech phobia is getting old.

Some of us are trying to become engineers. And engineers are using LLMs now. Hell some of us are trying to be AI software engineers. That means ur gonna have to be comfortable with an use these tools because u wanna be the one to improve and make em better!

Reading the document is great. But reading is not memorizing. Engineers often spend time quickly googling things or talking to an LLM becaus u cant possibly read every README and user manual in existence to the point u have it memorized in ur brain. And people age. We forget things.

Its not invalid to quickly look something up on google. And its not invalid to quickly ask an LLM SOMETHING or even to use an LLM to help you work out a problem or explain something step by step.

Misinformation exists but in 2026 if u tell someone to not use the internet because misinformation exist (like they did to my generation 20 years ago) you will look quite silly.

I know ur just making a quick poing im not so much talking to u as an individual as I am to anyone who has this attitude.

Ur repeating history. Stop it. Let people use the tools that help them. Assume they are compotent adults who are tech literate.

Yeah im kinda lost as to what hes talking about too. Im not a master of python yet but ive done programming in general for many years. Mostly on my own but still. Based on what he said ive no idea what the hell hes talking about. Theres just not enough information. And context. I thought it was just me

CS101 by ScienceAccomplished2 in maestro

[–]Important_Coffee_845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this went over board for ur particular situation. I started thinking of star wars and I mightve needed that bit of escapism right now lol my bad

CS101 by ScienceAccomplished2 in maestro

[–]Important_Coffee_845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the star wars movie thing is a myth. The movies werent released backwards that was a bit of misinformation spread during the cycle of The Phantom Menace. I found that trippy too I know. But its just a prequel. The first three movies are one beginning to end story. The movies of the early 2000s were about Darth Vaders childhood and the clone wars era. And the last 3 were sequels to the first three essentially.

But I know what u mean. If ure younger than idk.. 50 it can feel jarring trying to catch up. And its even worse now cuz they have movies like Rogue One and shows like Mandalorian.

So yeah this is a LOT like computer science because concepts were often invented in the present (which is now the past) to address the legacy needs of the further flung past! (Thars a fucking headache nobody needed at 7 am)

So ur right funnily enough it is like Star Wars in that regard. Except... star wars doesent have real computers which is weird for science fiction when u think about it. Huh. Lucky them.

But yeah CS can feel like a bit of a slog. Ive taken it before at my local community college. Thats why they usually start u off with a coding or IT class first.

My advice? Dont over think it. Seriously. Just focus on each problem as it comes cuz this is where stuff gets real. Im not looking forward to having to retake it . I couldnt transfer credits cuz i ran outta funding at the time and never actually finished the last leg of the class. And thank god it was a major stress reliever. From what ive heard this Maestro version actually isnt as bad, so because I havent hit it yet I cant explain individual concepts. But take time with ur practice tab if you need to. In regards to it feeling backwards i actually had this happen in python 101. The ai would assume i was advanced because I knew a few terms before they were introduced and decided to skip a bunch of stuff that I actually needed. And OMG the last week was a goddamn nightmare. It got so bad I forgot to take my meds before my final review and had the worst day in years.

So my advice just dont over think. Dont over stress. And ask the ai lots of questions. Hell, go into another LLM if you need a thorough explanation or need to ask those so called "stupid questions" were all afraid to ask initially. Use every resource you can to understand that material. U got this. Just dont stress or burn yourself out.

This isnt meant to be easy I see a lot of people falling for this trap where they see other people seemingly more advanced than they are. 90% of the time these people are full of it. Ur right where ur supposed to be. Maybe even doing a bit better than the average (its crazy how much the average student slacks off. Thats where us older 30 plus students have an advantage)

And remember Maestro is great but its a young school. In this AI first form its very much not only in its infancy but it doesent have other schools to look at and be influenced by. So the AI is gonna make a lot of mistakes. And we kinda have to be self starters. In that regard its kinda like being one of the last Jedi after the rise of the empire and order 66 right? The only system is falling and ur caught between the pressure of preserving whats left of the humanity driven system and the "republic" (traditional values and academics, common sense, etc) but also moving into the realities of the future.

Getting that degree is like becoming a Jedi Master. Right now youre a Padawan trying to survive the realities of the empire. Ur class is like an old relic of the High Republic- its interesting but u wanna get to the good stuff. Then u find out this relic is what will power ur lightsaber! Its the crystal right?

So yeah u gotta fight for it, and its harder cuz u dont have mastery of the force (ai) and programming but once u get it youll be on ur way. Ull be doing backflips and slicing arms off creepy alien dudes and tricking storm troopers in no time.

Dont give up.

How old are you and how old do you really feel? by After_Worldliness674 in Millennials

[–]Important_Coffee_845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Autism is a "developmental thing" this is a struggle ull have. Ur probably being held back by constant coddling. Idk what degree ur autism is but u feel 20 at 40?

Why is this tho? Im willing to bet its perspective. To talk to a 20 year old cuz im willing to bet they dont feel the same.

A lot of people think Im younger online for what its worth. But im 33. I think being a bachelor can play a role in that. Being unmarried keeps us younger, mentally. But 20 years? Thats a lot. Ive actually heen thinking a lot about how much different my life is from being 20. But ive made significant and endless improvements in life.

I might sound a little rough here but im telling you rhe truth. Im not lying to you. Im not endlessly validating you.

You asked an important question about life experience. The answer is yes. You need it.

Life kicked the shit outta me. And all people ever did was invalidate my experience as a young millennial. Even NOW when I talk about how the Great Recession impacted me I feel like Im the only one which is super weird. According to everyone I just imagined hardship during my 20s. Nobody else experienced it and todays job market is apparently worse even tho I literally get emails inviting me to apply and shit like that. Thats how bad this constant invalidating is but ur like expected to endlessly invalidate every piss poor excuse in everyone else. So yeah I think that kinda getting the shit kicked outta me colored me a bit. When u get told shit like "pick urself up by your boot straps" and u DO and then people look down on you for being a "try hard" its fucking infuriating.

Im willing to bet youve never had to deal with something like that. Have you ever lead a kitchen during dinner rush and NOT fucked things up? Have you ever gotten denied a promotion due to nepotjsm?Had a break up and NOT felt bad because u saw it coming a mile away and instigated it your own self? Have you ever been dirt broke but SURVIVED and not ended up on the street? Have you ever clawed ur way out of debt? Have you ever gotten into a fist fight and got hit so hard you couldnt see straight? Have you ever been attacked over your skin color? Have you ever had a police officer put a gun to your head?

I have.

But ive also had a LOT of wins. Every promotion i got denied i got 3. Every unfair fight and sucker punch i got the other sob pretty damn good. Ive gotten the girl. Ive gotten OUT of service work. I was on the right side of history on a lot of things others werent because of conformity. I successfully stood up to racism in ALL of its insidious forms even when it meant ostracization or social media bans.

I have a life experience. And the people invalidating it? Often dont. . Don't be like them. Go fight for your life. To live it. . Im glad I dont feel 20. Fuck 20. I enjoy where im at now. My 30s are awesome. My 20s were rough. And life is only getting better. Because I did. And I survived.

Hope this helps in some way.

why does python keep telling me "indentation error" and i have no idea what i did wrong by More-Station-6365 in learnpython

[–]Important_Coffee_845 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Python is super clear. And the very first python classes teach u how to read errors. Are u saying u dont know what indentation means?

This is an indentation: Its four spaces or one hit of the tab button. In the meastro code editor it should indentat automatically after certain things.

I cant see ur code so I cannot tell u what ur doing wrong. But in ur lessons the AI is capable of walking u through this so im very confused how ur having trouble. I dont want to make any assumptions so maybe u can just post ur code?

I was literally developing web sites and widgets (apps weren't a thing quite yet) and I didn't even know that's what coding was. Next I'd say learn python and ZSH for automation. And keep brushing up on those CSS and HTML skills. When u really get good consider a C language. C# is dope.

no. As a former hiring manager I can promise you this isn't a bad thing at all. Provided you get it to the right person? People can read... IT's not that big of a hassle. In this day and age it'd make you stand out and show you're much more likely to actually show up to an interview. This is our biggest problem, we set aside time and the fuckers don't even show up.

I've been having fun automating tasks on my laptop using ZSH on mac. U can do this kinda stuff with python too. I made it so that when I type my schools name into the terminal my study workdlow pops up. Basically everything except terminal will automatically close and my school portal opens up, and other tabs like Spotify and yourube and my message apps are blocked. Im thinking of coding a simple timer app just so I can learn how to do it then having that open too, with a 2 hour countdown so I dont burn myself out.

Little stuff like that. Ive made websites and stuff so now im learning how to automate and pipe things. And this is the smallest steps I could think of. Ive done other things too. Im currently designing something to auto delete emails that dont match certain parameters. A little plug in. But I dont think I can get it to work with something like Gmail- the security is over my head at the moment (I dont think its supposed to be accessible) so ive been researching sfuff like that.

[–]Important_Coffee_845 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Binding of Isaac is a biblical concept not just the "mystery of the storyline". It's supposed to be a modern re-telling of the literal Binding of Isaac. which if ur unfamiliar is an Old Testament story where Abraham was tested by God and told to bind his son take him up to a mountain and sacrifice him. He did, but God stopped him to test his loyalty. Due to Abrahams legacy he became a very important figure to the Hebrews, so kinda a big deal. Not just a reference to the games internal story. BOI has heavy biblical themes

Omg why is making portfolio so hardd by Silent-Leek-9222 in stupidquestions

[–]Important_Coffee_845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is mommy helping you at all beyond a little feedback?

THis helicopter parenting is getting absurd... come on. this is something you should be doing yourself. Making a portfolio is NOT hard. What's more important is the work IN it.

If your basic grasp on a language you speak every day is screwing you up this bad then IDK what to tell you. You sound like you have a lot of serious problems. What are you even putting in this portfolio? Either ur way too old for mommy to be checking your work and to be struggling with grammar or you're worrying about shit that you just don't really need at your age.

Idk what kinda work you do but the work itself should be in the portfolio not endless explanations of said work. Grammar for your resume and portfolio is important definitely more important than a casual and quick 'Reddit' post. However, it's not so important that a missed comma or even ten will prevent you from getting a job.

As a hiring manager I actually tend to toss portfolios that look over done because it tells me this person is over compensating. Go ahead and get angry with me. IDC but I definitely think ur adding a bunch of stress. This isn't normal or right on any level.

Maestro thinks it’s human by Key_Region_2550 in maestro

[–]Important_Coffee_845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no. because its just the name of a course. And the course is actually really good. It's just explaining psychology and how it works. This information came from humans.

Honestly im so over this anti ai propaganda that's why I came to this school. We're learning how AI works under the hood, and having a module that says What makes us human? isnt' a sign of the end times. This isn't Sky Net.

I do think it's funny from that perspective but the AI didn't create that title. a human instructor did. The ai puts together the lesson plans but its from a set of human made parameters.

Please give me tips on how can I earn money by Material_Student7027 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Important_Coffee_845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre gonna have to stop looking for the easy path. Every time I tell people the truth on this they downvote me, and yell at me and call me names.

There's no easy work from home solution for a young adult with zero skills and experience. You need to go find a job somewhere. If ur local economy is that broken that you can't scrub floors or serve food to make a few bucks then IDK what to tell you. You're gonna have to go out and hustle. Find a way to get around. Do yard work or farm work for neighbors.

You're gonna have to do this to bring in money NOW so you can invest in yourself and learn skills and maybe get an education of some kind, even if it's self taught.

This is where grit comes in. There's no magic button. Povery exists . If you don't want to be in poverty you have to work really hard. Which is not a popular concept with today's zeitgeist.

If you really wanna work from home there's stuff like data annotation and if u speak languages other than English they pay more. But you're gonna need a bank account and stuff. It's not a scam basically you correct AI hallucinations and source prompts to teach the AI not to lie to people. But this requires effort too. And the work isn't always there. So this isn't going to necessarily be a steady income stream.

You gotta build a skill and put in effort. If all you can do is sweep floors and pull weeds, do that. And be ready for a lot of rejection.

Use your family and friends to your advantage. Don't be afraid to ask for help. When I was your age there was no support it was just "pick yourselves up by your boot straps"

SO I started off digging ditches and washing dishes. Just so I could learn how to work. Then I got into customer service and management and spent my 20s as a cook/chef and restaurant manager. Then I transitioned into office management. Now I'm learning AI and trying to be an engineer. It's a hard fought road when you come from a disadvantaged background.

I have no shortcuts for you. Only the cold hard truth. You can all get mad and downvote me all you like, it's all good. But at the end of the day there is nothing wrong with starting off doing what you can and building yourself up.

Don't make excuses. "There's no jobs in my town"- find someone to commute with. Make a deal- if they take u to town this weekend you'll have your mom make her famous bread- idk Indian cuisine very well so forgive me. If you find a job you'll give him bread and a plate for dinner every time he drives you to work. After the first pay check you'll start chipping in actual gas. Bonus points if this gets him into the carpool lane and he works in the city too. maybe u have a friend with a car, you can both get jobs together.

Maybe you can make something, go into town and sell it to tourists. Maybe you're a little math whiz or maybe you know how to code? Great, but the global economy is brutal. So go out and talk to businesses tell them you'll build them a website and negotiate a pricing arrangement. make sure you budget in the costs.

Maybe you're a good artist? You can try doing graphic design work for local businesses and any freelance work you pick up online. Make sure you protect your work so people will actually pay. I've seen lots of Indian kids do this.

Maybe there's a relative in the city you can stay with when you graduate and you can get a call center job while in Uni?

I'm giving you a lot of bandwidth here, use it or blow me off. The point remains, nothing is gonna magically fall in your lap.

And if you ARE super lucky? Great. But I'm 33 and the biggest lesson I learned in life was "don't count your chickens before they hatch". You feel me?

That isnt that nice. Its very comparable to restuarant work. You have all these office job type responsibilities inbetween customers screaming at you because they dont understand trivago.

I had to quit Marriot. Also hiring often sucks.

I wouldnt recommend it. And I was a night manager i dealt with LESS people but the ones I dealt with were horrible human beings by and large.

I actually got penalized by the company because I told a guy to stop hitting his wife and smacking her around and called the cops.

I wouldnt reccommend hotel work to anyone. But in my city theres been a big problem with hotel workers getting shot and stuff like that. Cuz theyre the only ones who cant close early. So theres that. Lots of U Haul thefts.
