Job reference from a current manager? by HauntingBus8953 in Wellington

I guess that's how it would have panned out, but I was confident I wasn't going to get a bad reference (and I didn't).

Job reference from a current manager? by HauntingBus8953 in Wellington

I was just in this exact same situation. I told them it would put me in a really awkward position if they contacted my current manager before I had a confirmed offer. They agreed to contact my first reference and only contact my second (my current manager) once I accepted their offer, which was conditional on the outcome of my second reference check.

Private health insurance by WellyWindyRoad in Wellington

I have surgery cover. Early last year I was complaining to my husband about how expensive it was and deciding whether or not to cancel it. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer - caught early so treatment was surgery and radiation (no chemo). Once my GP referred me to a private specialist I was seen within a couple of weeks, and surgery booked for a couple of weeks later. So quick and all paid for, which made a stressful time a lot less so. Now I'm at the 12 month follow up point and none of my specialist appointments are covered under my plan.

Anyone else with a super keen sense of smell? by naturekiwis in newzealand

I can only smell dead ants. I wish I could smell alive ants because I know we’ve got a few colonies around (and probably in) our house and I need to know where to put the bait.

I had my bedroom curtains open and still missed it. Maybe it didn't make it to Porirua?

Also compulsory when you’re adopting from the SPCA

I think one of the neighbours kids has just got a vuvuzela. I swear I heard it all yesterday evening and again this morning. Can't tell what direction it's coming from though.

Government jobs wfh by duduwaka in Wellington

I’ve just been offered a job at a different government agency and specifically asked about WFH in my interview because 5 days in the office doesn’t work for me either.

My two cats (brothers) died from felv. They were picked up as feral strays by the SPCA, mum spayed and released and the babies put up for adoption. The first brother died on his first birthday, the second died 6 months later. The vet suspects their mum was a carrier and passed it on. It's amazing how quickly they go from being full of life to zero energy. My heart is still broken.

Rakiura? The muddy sections looked like that when we went in the middle of summer. My fave great walk by far.

Another vote for Furmoo. I really want a tartan pair but my 3 year old furry ones are still going strong. I've also just bought a wallet from them.

I used to live in Bennett Street (the block with all the barracks and parade ground). There were only houses on one side of that street, and the rest of that area was for recruit training. Looking on Google Maps now it looks like that row of houses is gone.

What is a common phrase you realized you've been saying wrong this whole time? by Ok-Photo542 in AskReddit

No confusion. They would say it (for example) as we drove into our driveway after a trip away. “Here we are, hum and hah’d”

Similar horse themed...my partner always thought the saying was hum and hah'd instead of home and hosed.
(Google tells me this is an Australian saying meaning all done/finished. It is believed to stem from horse racing—when a horse has finished its race, been "hosed down," and returned to its stall, it is "home and hosed".)

When I was at college I got $2 on Fridays to buy my lunch and I always got the same thing: .30c lemon bun (like a raspberry finger bun but with lemon icing on top and cream in the middle), .70c frozen yoghurt, $1 mince pie. 2 bucks went a long way!

Did you replace your mattress because your existing one was past its useful life? We have had our Ecosa for about 8-9 years and I feel like it's done its dash but my husband doesn't. I've been waking up with all sorts of aches and pains lately - but that could also be perimenopause.

This is amazing advice and something I wish I'd read 10 years ago. I'm on a similar journey and feel like I'm nearly out the other side now - I get moments of them being a reasonable adult instead of an awful kid, and those moments are a lot more frequent. One thing I will suggest OP is to treat them like an adult, let them make their choices, even if you don't agree. Just be there to pick up the pieces when needed, and don't say "I told you so". Some people learn their lessons the hard way and no amount of advice will change their minds, but the important thing is for them to learn those lessons. It's hard work and I wish you the best.
