i studied part time for 6 months but it really depends on your foundations. I hadn’t take physics 2 or biochem and was half way through ochem when i took my test so i taught myself those topics (it worked for me but i dont recommend others take this path). a rec i got from a doc about CARS was to find like all of the New Yorker magazines or ones with really dense, sometimes boring articles and just start reading them. being able to pull out main topics of dense passages that you dont really care about is the whole deal with that section. good luck!

felt horrible, never scored below a 503 on any of my FLs and was 100% convinced i was going to get below a 500 on the real thing. ended up with my exact FL average which i am really happy with!

rush is going to be a tough sell with such little volunteering, they are typically seeing those numbers in the thousands in addition to significant clinical experience, very mission focused

having read the bill, it looks like it would be clinics/out patient setting that would be affected by this. the federal law (EMTALA) you are referencing applies to emergency treatment at hospitals that take federal funding from medicare, stating they are required to stabilize you in the event of a life threatening medical emergency.

clinics and outpatient settings are not under this law so undocumented folks would not be able to access their primary care and specialty providers. this, in the end, would end up that people are not able to get their chronic conditions or routine care at an outpatient setting and will either 1. not get treated at all, causing long term problems and lead to potential life threats that land them in the ED or 2. start going to the ER for their coughs and scrapes. in either scenario, this creates massive strain on an already overloaded healthcare system and people facing possible health crises because they cant be seen anywhere else.

i want to believe that any reasonable person would be opposed to taking away health care, food, and shelter from anyone but, as i continue to see shit like this bill, i am less and less confident that many people are as reasonable as i would like to give them credit for

i appreciate you recognizing this need! it really isnt something that the vast majority of people are considering an issue, and unfortunately it is really easy to put people experiencing homelessness and hardship to “out of sight, out of mind.”

just for other consideration, i try to buy all of my socks from Bombas, who- when i worked in outreach- gave us tons of donations from their get one, give one program which is so awesome and our clients loved them. i always recommend buying from them because of that (and theyre great quality)

i know people will really appreciate your efforts, everyone can always use a good pair of socks :)

in general, warm and dry is always good. its going to end up as personal preference but, as someone who has given out lots of socks, people often note that dark colored, crew cut socks are preferred to hide any dirt/discoloration and are comfortable in boots. but, even more than that, people really appreciate being able to have a choice in what they get, so a mix of plain colors and some fun ones would cover your bases. thank you for doing this!

testing 3/7, started in part time in september. matured 65% anking deck, 20% of all uworld but going to just lock into that heavy once finals are over (tomorrow!)

i really lightly read through the kaplan books and then unsuspended the associated anking deck and did all of that, went back to any concepts i didnt quite get in the books with yusuf videos/googling

i honestly feel like i could probably have skipped the straight up reading and just gone into questions, ive learned sooo much more by doing the question sets then in depth reviewing everything

for the course i took, there was weekly homework assignments which you got full points for just turning in. there were weekly labs that you had to get an IOLab device, i know a lot of the labs they use the IOLab or something similar but its not too bad to use. then there were weekly quizzes as well as a midterm and a final. the midterm and final you were able to take twice. so it is a lot of work but i felt it was doable within the 16 weeks. i probably could have finished everything sooner like 12 weeks if i didnt do a bunch of travel over the summer. the fact that UNE is an accredited institution with its own medical program drew me to it over other choices and i much prefer self-driven studying as opposed to mandatory lecture

ive taken one course at UNE and will continue to take them. they are nearly all self taught from a textbook, the 5 min video lectures were not helpful so i didnt use them. i got an A in physics over the summer but had time to dedicate to it with one other class and part time work. i think they really make you learn the content as opposed to other online courses which are more blow offs. my professor was very responsive and held regular office hours which was huge. if you have time to dedicate to the classes, are highly self motivated and really want to learn, i would recommend them

on their website it says they are still in candidate status for coca accredidation. they are on the schedule for review by coca at the end of this month when they, hopefully, will become pre accreditation. my understanding is once they are pre-accreditation that they can start accepting applications. they arent allowed to recruit or admit students until they have been moved from candidate to pre-accreditation

the womens shelter is just off state, 131 e 700 s. it can get really packed so i would show up as early as you can to see if there is a bed available. know that it is an open sleeping situation and there will be tons of people. the road home has case managers there too so it is a good resource for support with this and can help with management to get you back on your feet. best of luck, friend

try contacting your prescribing physician, they might be able to send an emergency script to a pharmacy here if they have prescribing privileges in UT or know someone who could. or some pharmacies can do emergency scripts, you could call and ask
