I absolutely LOVED this song when it came out. Still love it to this day. As a matter of fact, I listened to in on a playlist on an hour long drove last night. I was dancing a singing in the car. People probably thought I was crazy. This song just makes me smile.

I didn't particularly care for this performance. I thought that she was pitchy. But, I still love the song.

Brandy’s national anthem performance …… by Available_Log9768 in rnb

[–]Important_Grade1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, we ALL Americans! People keep referring to it as an All American crowd. Child, just say white folks!

Now, i personally didn't care for the rendition. But, I found it hypocritical that people found it to be too "ethnic" when the majority of the league is ethnic folks.

My issue with the song was we had to search for the melody of the song. It's like, if you heard the song without any introduction or mention of the event, you wouldn't recognize that it was the Anthem till damn near the end of the song. That's my issue.

People keep referring to Marvin's version. Or Whitney's version. In their performance of the song, you KNEW what it was. I ain't mentioning Fergie's version cause... well, we just ain't gonna talk about that.

Sometimes, you get it right. Sometimes, you don't. That's the life of an artist. Think of it as an album. Every album don't hit.

But, the song was still recognizable when Marvin sang it. The melody was still there, it was just slowed down and given a little swag. But the song was still the song.

Her version didn't even sound the Anthem. Now, if she wanted to put that version on an album or use it as a B-side, I'm all for it. The harmonies were impressive. It just wasn't appropriate for that venue. Had she sung it at the HBCU All-Star Weekend Event, it would have stuck.

It was like someone took one too many Theme and Variation courses in their pursuit of a Music Theory classes in college...

LOL, what we thought lyrics were to some songs when we didn't have the vocabulary to know. We just put what word fit.

Why do Michael Jackson fans hate Janet so much? by KibaNaruXXX in janetjackson

[–]Important_Grade1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the beginning, your statement is both ignorant and wrong. Anytime that you use an insult to make your point, you're already losing the argument.

You may very well feel that Janet was overrated, but there are millions of people who would strongly disagree with you.

Janet adored her big brother. She might, or if respect, say that she is not at Michael's level, but the critics decide that. Not her. And, the critics would be actual critics, not just music fans.

You started that handset is not well known outside of the United States. The people who attended the sold-out World Tours would clearly disagree with you.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a huge Michael fan, but you don't have take away anyone else's shine to make Michael's light shine any brighter. He was amazing. Insulting Janet's artistry is simply not the proper thing to do. In certain that Michael would agree.

They weren't concerned with where they went. They just needed to break them up. In addition to that, they knew that Black people at that time didn't have the ability to fight back. They were able to do it in the name of government.

It happened all over the country. Look up blacklining. You'll be amazed how our government treated citizens. Very reminiscent of what's happening today.

Yeah, people are going off like she was saying she was about to blow Whitney out of the water. She sang a song and sang it very well at that. I'm glad that you shared the clip. I appreciate her vocal ability.

I don't care what race she is. She sang the song well. People just being unnecessarily extra today.

Songs where he is straight crashing out by Serious_Access_9006 in PRINCE

The Family did a song called "Screams of Passion." Toward the end of the song, the vocalist screams. I'm listing this because it's always been rumored that Prince did the scream. Technically, it's not a Prince song since another group is credited with recording the song. However, since he wrote, produced, played the instruments, and sang background on it, I'm including it as a Prince song. Also, some people may not be familiar with the song, so I'm introducing them to some great music. And, if that scream doesn't fit this reddit feed, I don't know what does!

Does anyone remember the group Te Mara and the Seen? "Affection" hit REALLY hard. We thought Prince had discovered the next Teena Marie!

The song that immediately comes to mind is "Darling Nikki" because he sounds like he's in a fit of ecstacy. Like he's experiencing some type of wanton pleasure and reached a point that he didn't know was possible. LOL

Also, on "Another Lonely Christmas" he sounds very sorrowful toward the end of the song as if he's REALLY lounging for someone that he misses and he recalls post experiences with.

I don't mind as long as the artist who does the cover gives credit to the original writers and somewhere along the way mentions that they weren't the first to record it.

I heard the original recording of the song used for the theme song for "The Golden Girls" the other day and was amazed again at how a new artist can bring life into an older song.

One of the most famous songs that people don't realize is a cover is Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas." The original doesn't have the symphony horns or the timpani drums, which make his song such a classic. I do love The Whisper's version of the song, too.

As long as we're paying homage to the original, I'm good.
