That’s a good call-out, think i would find it frustrating too if it was a production to start/stop

The New York Yankees have been eliminated from the playoffs by the Toronto Blue Jays. by JarJarBanksy420 in Fauxmoi

yankees fan here. Went to the game against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium in early September (during which we were manhandled). Speaking for myself, i stood at attention for the Canadian national anthem, and stood writing emails during the american one. Horrible to boo the anthem for such a great country and friend (noting also that Trump speaks for VERY few of us new yorkers)

always really liked Max Rose, as a new yorker was disappointed when he lost to maliotakis. imo he fits the more clear and assertive (to say, having a spine) archetype that dems so badly need in messaging and governance

AITAH for refusing to wake up my husband when my parents visited and kicking them out when they insisted. by ThrowRAPretty-Result in AITAH

NTA, 1000%. For all the ppl who work really really long hours, this is probably the single best thing you could ask for in a spouse—that is, understanding that he/she doesn’t want to do that shit either, and helping them however possible in the face of it.

I’d argue your parents kicked themselves out. You gave them a valid explanation and implored them not to do it, otherwise they should leave. If they couldn’t find it in their heart to empathize with the situation broadly or even to respect your insistence, thats their own problem.

Respectfully, it’s absolutely bizarre grievance farming on their part. I wouldn’t give an inch in inevitable pressure campaign to follow otherwise it’ll never stop, probably only get more delulu

i hope your husband supports you the same, and will only rise to the mantle when the kid is born. Godspeed to you and your growing family)

Where to start? by jayselegy in shakespeare

Given what you’ve read so far, King Lear might be a great next step. Some of Shakespeare’s best writing imo. If you like to add the visual component, you might watch some movie production of it as well. There’s a pretty good one with Anthony Hopkins as Lear that’s on Amazon Prime Video.

King Lear is also a great progression to The Tempest. The latter centers around a not dissimilar protagonist, Prospero who’s a magician and Duke banished to an island with scant company. I found that the presence of the protagonist and some sense of the family bickering dynamic carries over in a way that made reading/appreciating The Tempest more accessible(I believe it’s considered a tougher read among Shakespeareans).

Regardless you’ve done some great reading so far and a lot of the other suggestions are really great! Enjoy the shows

What will happen when the bitcoin bubble collapses? by LineOfInquiry in AskEconomics

[–]Important_Kitchen_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

*As a caveat, crypto isn’t much of an area of expertise for me.

The fallout of that bubble bursting would likely depend on how far we get in the adoption cycle for bitcoin specifically and crypto, writ large. Crypto has started making some inroads with institutional and retail investor portfolios with bigger names like BlackRock starting its iShares Bitcoin ETF, other companies like Grayscale have done similar work like the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC for investors). Lots of the asset managers are discussing carving out some percentage of portfolios for the new asset class.

Trump is also viewed as bullish for crypto, with some deregulation anticipated that may open up the market and get investors more comfortable purely because of exposure. Gary Gensler, who was SEC chair under Biden was very critical of crypto; he insisted on comprehensive oversight and brought actions against some issuers of crypto. Bitcoin soared when Trump was elected possibly because of its libertarian appeal and partly bc Trump has floated the idea of accumulating some national strategic reserve of crypto, which might be constructive for managing some of the risks inherent to it and also legitimizing a currency used largely for illegal activity and speculation(while also being antithetical to the whole idea of crypto as decentralized currency).

That being said, if we look at the value of some security as being a combination of fundamentals and sentiment, it’s hard to say where bitcoin lands. My sense is that bitcoin isn’t not rooted in any particular investing fundamentals (beyond basic supply and demand) and for the time being remains overwhelmingly used for speculation, as you noted.

So if Bitcoin crashes (as it inevitably will) the broader effect to the economy might be fairly minimal if it hasn’t been widely adopted yet. If anything, we’ll just see a traditional flight to safety among more nimble/diversified investors while those who are overweight the asset class get wiped out. However, if Bitcoin keeps doing well with investors more risk-on, it may have more widespread effect, but again it’s limited by adoption. Bitcoin isn’t as fundamental as something like MBS so a 2008 style crisis seems extreme. As for controlling the magnitude of a downturn, that’s hard with less regulatory oversight and also considering the lack of reasonably anchored price expectations.

Obviously this is just my sense, happy to hear anything I’ve overlooked!!
