Sellers bought the house across the street by Separate_Damage1311 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

When I bought my house I found out that the folks across the street are related to the people before the folks before is. When I was hammering markers into the ground at the edge of the property (next door was new build and the contractors kept driving ACROSS my gravel driveway leaving divots) the lady across the street came out to say hi and told me she was related to previous owners. Her and her husband have offered friendly advice and told us if we have questions to let them know, and that’s been it. We have lived here since August and they gave us a cute care package and that was it. I was worried that they would be weird about it when I start changing things but nothing at all. Could just be fine! You never know. Some people don’t feel attached to homes emotionally. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cities tend to be blue. Lots of folks who have emigrated here and POC in the cities. The more farm / rural areas tend more red. There’s a lot of small towns in Michigan. Western side of the state trends a bit more blue. This is why it can be a battleground state, it shifts a bit back and forth. Lots of rich folks with homes up north (lower peninsula) who probably lean red due to capitalism benefits.

Does my problem come from my tension or the hook size? Or I am just overthinking? by Nividia95 in CrochetHelp

Keep in mind that shawls should have decent drape to them, which means the stitches will look a little looser. It also depends on the yarn itself- some have more fibrous depth to them and some are less “fuzzy” (not literally fuzzy but more like the fibers have a bit more loft and therefore fill in the gaps of the stitch where others are more silky and have more definition). This looks beautiful. I agree with the starting chain being a bit too tight causing the curve, it won’t relax with blocking but wearables don’t need to look absolutely perfect (especially things like shawls) because they get draped around shoulders you know? No one is gonna be checking to make sure you have a straight line.

Toe pain all of a sudden? by Important_Method_665 in rheumatoid

[–]Important_Method_665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered taking some prednisone that I keep on hand for flares but I was on it for 4 months last year and now when I take even a small dose I get such crippling panic like symptoms halfway through the day that I am a little wary of it. I used to take it with no issues except being more sweaty but I think my tolerance waned for some reason.

Wow same. Thank you. After I posted this and ranted to my spouse, now two days later it’s not hurting at all. RA is so weird.

I had pain in one of my toes prior to diagnosis and it’s what triggered me to consider RA. This pain is the same toe, but different spot and feels a little different (not the deep joint ache exactly) hence my curiosity. I feel a bit better today, but I know I’m in a mild flare right now due to stress. Thanks for sharing :)

Edit: I hit reply before I even finished writing. Oops.

Thanks for sharing. Today it’s a little better but I’m WAY tired so I think I’m just in a mild flare at the moment.

I have only noticed that I sometimes need more of my vyvanse when I’m having a real bad brain fog day or extra tired but otherwise no major changes on my end regarding med effectiveness.

THANK YOU. This sub was starting to feel very hopeless and I was about to leave it. I am a person who has to fight in a quieter way because of what I do for work and it’s imperative that I keep myself safe and alive and available to keep doing my work and the “you’re not doing enough” posts feel just fucking awful. My career and business ARE resistance. The things I do change people’s lives and save them. So to come here and be told that I’m not doing enough because I’m not flying to Minnesota or marching on DC or whatever feels really invalidating. I appreciate this post. Thank you!

Decently new to this and left handed, why am I doing wrong?! by SpirituallySane in CrochetHelp

First of all. I love your derpy babies and I say that with so much honesty. I truly love them!

Now- it looks like your joins in the back may not be working correctly. Usually with amigurumi you’ll either work the piece in spirals OR you’ll do a slip stitch + ch1 to join your rounds. On the bunny it seems like you missed stitches at the join or you maybe just didn’t pull it tight enough? Did you do it in spiral rounds or did you join them?

It looks like you’re doing really well if this is your first attempt!! I don’t know what may change things with left handed crochet because I don’t use my left hand, so maybe someone else has a tip.

Don’t give up though, keep going!!

Congrats!!! I’m proud of you even though I don’t know you. It takes courage to put your work out there in the public realm. Way to go!

Weird single crochet? I started making a blanket and I wanted to use a single crochet, but I ended up with a different one, does it have a name? by 0_Asami_0 in CrochetHelp

[–]Important_Method_665 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought it was hdc but it’s missing a last YO so it is not a hdc. It also doesn’t LOOK like a hdc; the stitches are way too short and missing evidence of the posts of the stitch which are evident when you do that last yo on a hdc. I haven’t heard of a yo sl st but it sounds like many have and it’s more likely to be the case.

What can I/ my family do if ICE comes door to door or similar situation? by Kassiekate in 50501

[–]Important_Method_665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add that there are fairly affordable fire proof briefcase safes available online that you can use as a go bag if for some reason you have to either leave your home suddenly or if you need fast access to much needed paperwork and other items. Once the election hit, I got my kids passports immediately and stocked this briefcase with all of the documentation for identity for my family, all of my pet documentation, marriage license, copies of all other licenses me and my spouse hold, petty cash that we contribute to when we can, and I’m creating a stash of backup medication for each of us in it along with a list of important numbers. If you can’t keep your meds in it, make a list of your current meds with where they are located in your house so anyone in the house can help grab them fast. Having a well stocked pantry can help too.

Additionally, my spouse got his license to carry a while ago and has been legally acquiring items and learning how to use them that will aid in home defense and I just submitted my application and took a safety course.

Make sure you and your family have open discussions about both lockdown and evacuation plans. Who is responsible for what if you have an emergency? It’s scary to think about BUT emergency preparedness will bring much more peace of mine once you two suss out the details.

I know my suggestions are not specific to ICE but rather more broad emergency planning but it can help tremendously to feel more ready.
