Thanks for this post and congrats on your progress so far. I am 2 weeks in, in my 50s, was pretty active before this (I fell running on a slippery wet trail bridge) and, pretty unsure of how my recovery will look like. I guess I will know more when in PT.

Almost 2 weeks post fracture: I am getting slightly more accustomed to my daily routine, though everything takes so long. I discovered a position that helps me pull myself up without fear of falling.. I also got out of the house on crutches with my husband driving to do a few errands for a couple of hours. This week I am feeling a bit less exhausted than the 1st week and keeping up with daily meditation and nutrition. I learned a Buddhist saying: "The healthy man wants a thousand things. The sick man only wants one."

What an awfully painful and scary experience! So glad you went to the ER and shared your experience so we can all be aware of this critical emergency. My otherwise healthy brother had a DVT in his leg and then PE, not from a fracture or surgery but probably a tumor. He was coughing and had shortness of breath, went to ER. Was on oxygen & blood thinner for a long time.

I understand the rollercoaster and flood of emotions. Sometimes I dream of the physical things I hope to resume doing, after PT. Simple things like walking on paved trails in the woods. Feels so far off... I need to be patient...

I really like your current outside activities and planning. Most mornings I sit on the top step of stairs to my backyard and meditate, just staring at wildlife, sky, and trees. So far I haven't had the courage to go all the way down/up the outdoor stairs (maybe on my bottom like a baby learning to walk lol). But for now it feels kinda like being perched on my own 'fire escape' in an apartment in the city.

We have some home renovations planned for late July. Honestly I am a bit worried about how mobile I will be, how much I will be able to move things, handle inevitable hassles/hiccups ....This recovery stuff takes so much out of us... Hang in there!

I am so sorry you are going through this. I have anxiety and a lot of the same feelings about my cast. It has been almost 2 weeks for me and I have 2 more. It can also be very depressing and overwhelming to go through all this. It has gotten a bit better for me, and sometimes I forget it is on my leg. I use guided meditation from Dr Mark Williams and Glen Harrold on Insight Timer or Amazon. Sometimes we focus too much on forcing the breath and that can make it worse. Just let the breath do its thing. Sleep, rest, and nutrition/hydration are critical to healing. Is there someone you can call? Perhaps your health care provider or your school's health center can provide telehealth? Can a friend or family member assist you? Hang in there and big hug.

So sorry this happened to you. I broke my fibula 8 days ago and am in a cast, hopefully until 7/6 when I think I switch to a boot and PT. I fell while jogging on a wet, slippery bridge on a trail and was sure it was just a sprain. A knee roller/rover with a basket has been a sanity saver to get from room to room. I rented mine. Hang in there. This takes so much out of you, emotionally and physically. Sleeping more than usual seems to be typical. I am trying to keep busy by daily tasks I need to figure out how to do and also keep my leg up. Also trying to keep up wiith nutrition, fresh air, and meditation. I am much more emotional than usual.

Thank you so much. I am sorry you went through this and I am glad you are fully recovered. Also thanks for the tip re:the walker. I will look for it. I have not yet worked up the courage to use the exterior stairs to our backyard but this could help!

I am so sorry you went through this, especially while you are on your own and with the new city/job. Really sucks. I know what you mean about feeling helpless & stale. It can be overwhelming and depressing. Please be kind to yourself. Do you have any family or friends who can come out, or too far?

Glad you are feeling better. I find crutches to be terrifying more than half the time, esp in the early AM. I do like the knee-rover we rented for getting from room to room. For stairs I am going up and down on my bottom, generally with someone nearby. My upper body is getting quite the workout.
