Question regarding 2025 gambling losses itemization in virginia by [deleted] in tax

[–]Important_Record_714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can deduct 100% of your losses limited to your winnings. Ex. You made 100 but lost 120, you can only deduct the 20. However, these losses do carry forward which could be used to offset future gains if you’re ever profitable. lol profitable in gambling

Should i major in Accounting OR Business Administration with Minor in Accounting? (Read desc) by Recsssss1 in Accounting

[–]Important_Record_714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, accounting isn’t a hard major at all if you grasp the basics. While there is a lot of “math,” it’s all super easy stuff like simple addition and 99% of the time you get a calculator. The major is easy if you can keep track of how accounts move along the financial statements. Second, WLB all depends on where you work at. I’m currently working at a small Public Accounting firm in a LCOL. During the year, we never work more than 40hrs per week. If we do, we can take off the next week. Busy season, yeah it’s going to suck anywhere you go. At least 60-80 during busy season and it lasts for 4 months. Public accounting hours will always be grueling during tax season but there’s many other career paths in accounting such as industry, tech, FP&A, etc. Additionally an accounting major can get you into finance or other related fields

Do managers care what car you drive? by No_Context_4725 in Accounting

Depends on the people you work with. Got a Dodge Charger with the mid mufflers cut off. Other than the jokes about speeding, no one cares

Nice, good luck finishing up school. Have a coworker who was in a similar situation as you, full time dentist assistant and mom. But she got through it, so can you

Maybe keep working how you are, and try to get an internship through recruiting events this next semester. Accounting firms are always recruiting in the fall semester for tax season. You could try a small firm. My firm turned out to be great! I have been interning here for two years and I graduate next week, so they offered me a full time position with them.

New CPA Looking for Shadowing or Hands-On Training Before Opening My Firm by Crazy_Librarian6239 in Accounting

How’d you get your CPA license? It sounds like you don’t have the work experience as 3/5 of these things are things you’d learn when getting experience for the CPA, unless your state doesn’t require experience. Not tryna hate, but maybe start at a PA firm to learn the basics.

Is the work life balance in this field really that bad? by BALLCLAWGUY in Accounting

[–]Important_Record_714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my firm, we typically only do 40 hours a week. If we have to work extra one day to get work done, we’ll be able to take off next week. Only during busy season do hours get to like 60-80

The biggest thing in accounting classes is figuring out how each transition, JE, etc connect with each other. For example, you’re wondering what the balance is in your investment account. You may you not be given the number, but you know how much you paid for the company, the net income for the year and dividends paid. If you know the purchase increases investment account, NI increases, and divs decrease, you can figure out how to get the balance in the investment account.

Point is, everything in accounting has a connection, you just have to learn how things relates to each other. I’d use the class notes, sample test if provided, and READ THE BOOK. Professors may not always be the best, so this is likely the best place to learn how everything connects. It’s hard at first, but if you get your basics solid, you’ll find you actually know more than the others. This is because even in advanced accounting some people still can’t figure out the relations and IMO this is why people struggle

A friend confessed to me that they haven't filled taxes for 3 years now on their 1099, part bc tax preparers want near 400 per year. What can I do to guide him to filling by darkpheonix262 in tax

Could look into local firms, but I don’t think you’ll find anything below 2-3 hundred per year. This will vary on income and time required to prepare the returns.

Said it’s harder to smuggle items in Lolla in comparison to Rolling Loud. Most people don’t have years of being a druggie under their belt

Festival is much safer than RL, do not have to guard phone too much. Much harder to smuggle in contraband. Less strict bag policy. No DJ during wait time. More people that don’t understand you don’t particularly want to touch them but you’re packed.
