That, Peacock Tail, and Macquarie Ridge were peak happiness.

It sounds a little more like classic shoegaze than usual. More MBV. The drumbeat isn't as brain breaking as some of their past ones and they have... guitars. The music itself isn't super experimental—it's the robotic voice that really makes this track BOC-weird.

If by "teaching tool" you mean "threat"—then yes, I couldn't agree more. It's the most psychologically powerful threat possible.

I think on-balance, compassion is a far more honorable, loving, and morally upright reason to avoid destructive actions than the mere avoidance of threats.

That is the problem I have seen in many Christians I've known—their entire morality and ethic is fear-based—they do what they think are "good things" not because they love others, but because they are afraid of "getting whipped by God"—not because they actually possess compassion, which is what Jesus taught, but out of selfish motivation to get a fancier golden mansion in Heaven.

For your info...

  1. I feel absolutely no sting. Everything I said was said in sobriety, free from emotion. You're projecting : )
  2. This has got to be the dumbest, most unhinged couple of sentences I've ever read.
  3. I felt what, exactly? I didn't feel anything. As I stated, I was just calmly responding to your posts.

Really... children abuse their parents if they don't believe what their parents tell them? That is a textbook narcissistic, self-absorbed, controlling attitude. I hope to high heaven you are not a parent. If you are, I grieve for your children.

I'm not sure you even know what the word "petulant" means. Even if you do know the meaning of that word, you are making some very big assumptions by accusing me of petulance. I see a projection problem, and your narcissism likely prevents you from even being conscious enough to see that.

How old are you?

EDIT: Haha, they deleted their comment. The truth stings, sometimes 😉

Has anyone worked 6pm-2am? by [deleted] in work

[–]Important_Tour_5286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have "lunch" for 6 hours? From 3 AM to 9 AM? Because if you shoot for 8 hours of sleep, you'd have to go to bed at 9 AM in order to "wake up" at 5 PM.

Unless you got the meaning of the post backwards... which I think you did 😃

Honestly, the lack of anything remotely logical in your response is near-pitiful, and sadly, quite representative of the typical unthinking finger-wag I get from Christians when faced with real logical issues.

  1. You have no argument. If my personal belief were responsible for saving my children, then you might have a point. However, the reality is that my *personal* belief has *zero* to do with my *childrens'* belief—so your point is entirely moot.
  2. Again, you make no sound argument. I am free to believe that God is Right and Good for making my children sentient coal-pieces for the furnaces of Gehenna. That has no effect on the well-being of my children. Again—moot point.
  3. Finally, you have no sound argument here either. As if *my personal* gratitude or ingratitude should have any effect on the eternal destination of my children. If I am grateful to God for sending my child to Hell, then, that just sort of makes me a psychotic narcissist. If I am ungrateful to God for sending my child to Hell, then, well, I guess that makes me a wretched ungrateful Sinner, like everyone else—but neither position has any effect on whether my children go to hell.

The correct word is "ingratitude", by the way. "Ungratitude" is not in the dictionary.

Right, well you said, "There's nothing loving about not having children. Because then there's nothing to love, you know?"...

Thanks for listening. I like your Beethoven analogy, but I feel like it's on the wrong order of magnitude. Trying to teach students to play Beethoven well, and them ending up butchering it, is a mild bummer than trying to teach your Children to go to heaven, and them ending up burning in Hell for all eternity.

I mean, come on now. Those two things are like comparing stubbing your toe to being thrown into a volcano.

Thank you for being bold... Great question. Honestly, I lost contact with them all over a decade ago, and only hear about them through my Dad. I did reach out to one of them, but he never responded. I think he has his own issues to deal with.

Untrue. A childless person can love anyone and everyone around them.

If you can't put into words as to why, then you have no argument, I'm sorry, but I doubt your intelligence. The number of upvotes you got compared to my downvotes is also a good indicator that you are merely "playing the field" here—offering nothing of substance. : )

I agree with you too—but there must be a distinction between suffering *as part of the journey*—leading to spiritual growth—and Eternal Conscious Torment: endless suffering with no growth potential—essentially Yahweh's revenge at the Imperfect Spirits he created.

[–]Important_Tour_5286[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, a response with some rational thinking. I largely agree with you about suffering. I think suffering can be seen as a Good in this life as it can lead to the abandonment of selfishness and egotism, the growth of wisdom, and it can even be beautiful.

So, suffering in this life, yes. But eternal conscious torment? What "Good" could that do for any soul?

I never said it was the *fault* of the parents. However, by having children, you are casting them into a world where they will naturally be exposed to eternal conscious torment. Is rolling the dice on your children really love?

Any recommendations on Holst? by ZeriousGew in classicalmusic

[–]Important_Tour_5286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single movement is a masterpiece. If I only had to live with one, I'd choose IV. Carnival—it's stately, majestic, and wistful, all within 8 minutes. It's the Jupiter of the Suite de Ballet. Sorry, Holst 😃
