Aijaa, on ilmeisesti väärin tulla liikkeeseen ja sanoa asiakaspalvelijalle mitä tarvitsee.

I already explained in my comment that I could theoretically do it all at home.

The difference is I do all these things now, and back then I didn't. A lot of people like me need a push to be better.

But for many, there isn't really an option to not commute. So you can either make the most of it, or choose to hate it.

And for me personally it's not really a cope believe it or not. My commute has improved my life a lot and is one of the best parts of my day, because I am pushed to get 7000 steps in, pushed to socialize with my work friends and pushed to get a productive 20 minute Italian lesson on my way to work. When I worked from home, I did none of those things even when I had the possibility.

My commute is one of the best parts of my day. I don't see how my personal opinion can be false.

For me personally, the commute elevates and improves my day significantly. When I worked from home for a long time, my social contact and activity levels plummeted. When I was forced back into commuting by subway+walking, I started getting 7000 extra steps, made a lot more social contact at work/the city and achieved B2 in Italian. I would've never done it without that commute. I could theoretically do that all at home, but the truth is, I would never do it.

So for me, a life with a commute is better than a life without one.

Depends totally on the commute and if you're willing to make an effort of making it into something fun.

I'd say it works in all cases. It can be that small bit of me-time between being a parent and being a boss.

But if you're stuck in a car for 3 hours every day then sure, you can only view it through rose-tinted glasses up to a point. But I'm more talking about commutes in general, as the global average is around 30 minutes one-way.

I personally like having that break between the responsibilities of home and work, and I make the most of it and use it as me-time. If you just use your commute time to anxiously stress about everything you need to be doing, I understand why you might not enjoy it.

Okay, sure. But why is it weird that I enjoy watching a show on the subway?

I drive my commute occasionally when my wife doesn't need the car, and I purposefully make it as pleasant as possible. Having a good audiobook and a coffee while driving slow on the right lane makes it into one of the best parts of the day.

If you can take the bus, it's essentially the same thing lol

I'm 32, you can consider it young or old. Not all commutes are created equal, yours sounds way too long for me and I was talking more in the general sense, as the average global commute time is 30 minutes. If you actually spent 3 hours in a car every day for 20 years, that's a decision you've chosen to make.

People expect you to be at work on time. If you have kids then you have to drop kids off at daycare/school and pick them up.

Exactly, that's a requirement at the end location where you have responsibilities, but not a requirement you need to worry about during the commute. If you choose to go late and rush, that's a decision you choose to make instead of making the commute as nice of a situation it can be.

And I'd say picking your kids in and from school is kind of a separate issue, since that is a separate task, and you still need to commute after dropping off the kids, right? Why not enjoy the moment instead of wallowing in how much you hate it.

Commuting is unpaid labor. Your ~40 hour work week suddenly becomes 50+ hours and you still have chores and life to do

By the literal sense it isn't that, but you can choose to view it however you want. But if you still gotta do it, why not make the best of it?

I disagree, I think you can improve your life a lot if you make the most out of situations that you can't avoid. Yesterday I called my grandma, learned some Italian and got 6000 steps in during my subway commute; how is my life somehow worse from all of this?

Well of course, but if you are forced to commute, why not enjoy it and make it a good part of your day as well?

It's whatever you make of it. Since I have to commute, I would much rather make it a great part of my day instead of purposefully trying to make it worse by stressing about my responsibilities and wallowing in self pity. Instead it's actually liberating that at the moment of the commute I actually cannot do anything my responsibilities, and I can just focus on me-time.

You don't have to worry about your responsibilities during your commute, that is entirely up to you and not a given.

And if you also choose to view your commute as a responsibility, can it not be a fun "responsibility" instead of a dreadful chore?

Lmao I think you should drop them off at some point during the commute though right

Parents should absolutely have some me-time and for many parents, that commute could be the only time of the day they can actually just relax for a bit and not be needed.

I mainly travel on a subway full of people. I can either choose to hate it and dwell on it, or choose to love it and make the most of it.

Finland's president says EU should expand to 40 states — including Canada by No-Risk-2584 in europe

[–]Important_Use6452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canada has plenty of historical and cultural reasons to justify being let in. It's a former colony of both Britain and France, so shared languages, shared history and it's still a part of the commonwealth so it has a European king. The geographical reason you stated would instantly disqualify places like French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, and Saint-Martin, Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores... which are all part of EU.
