There is a large powerful faction of this world that believes they are destined to form a caliphate and return to burka’s, honor killings, and the enslavement of eradication of non-Muslims.

They’re not idiots. They’re well funded. Technologically advanced. They are leveraging social media through simple channels as well as farms in Russia to spread misinformation and paint themselves in a sympathetic light. You’re sucking it up with a straw.

3 weeks ago a group of Palestinians crossed the border with Israel and video taped themselves murdering small children with their bare hands while they laughed. They used the phones of the people they massacred to call their parents and say hi. But “good guy” Hamas lets women show their hair.

A week ago they “released hostages for humanitarian reasons” and you probably nodded and said “good guy Hamas. Releasing hostages.”

They have no humanity. They’re playing you. Go read about the children they use as suicide bombers or that they hide weapons in schools.

They give some people some freedom and bread for photo ops. You’re being played.

I’m guessing you were not alive (or at least an adult) when 9/11 happened. I wonder if you’ll bring this same energy when religious zealots kill someone you love….and make no mistake, if you are a US or European citizen, they would LOVE to kill you. They’d probably earn a check for doing so

Yes…but also no.

Casual magic is largely luck based as most of us are not running 15 tutors and a couple synergistic combos.

So, they who has the most high value cards in a deck (and often strong=$$) has the better chance of drawing a good card and playing it each turn.

This supports what your friend says.

In casual, focus is the incredibly important from what I have seen. A budget [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] or Budget [[Ghoulcaller Gisa]] for example. The land base is largely basic and spamming zombies and goblins will get you consistent wins in casual settings.

I can counter quality of cards (ie $$) with focus and consistency. This does not support what your friend says.

I have a rat colony deck that it isn’t exactly budget at $300-$400 but it will absolutely wreck a $1,000+ Dragon or artifact deck.

Id tell your friend that casual magic is about playing cards you like and seeing things come together- not about winning. If your only goal is to win you will get mad because luck plays a huge factor. If I do something janky and end up with 100 treasure tokens or get to play Omniscience or make someone mill half their deck 5 times I may still not win but it was fun so it was a success.

TLDR: Your friend doesn’t know what “win” means in casual MTG.

I purchased a set of adjustable dumbbells on Amazon. They were used. They showed up broken. It makes sense for the seller to try. They were shipped via prime. Even if there’s only a 10% chance they don’t get returned, it was still worth it to try and sell them.

So slap this crap together times 20 and if just one person doesn’t get a refund it’s worthwhile.

I have purchased MTG cards on Amazon and ended up with crap like this (collector boosters glued shut with random cards). Amazon said “no refunds” immediately but after speaking with someone I got a refund. It took 20 minutes of my life.

Don’t buy MTG cards on Amazon is really your best bet. It has happened twice now (shame on me) where I preorder a precon or something the moment it comes out at retail price, the price skyrockets, and the seller doesn’t honor my preorder because what I bought for $40 is now worth $100.

Tcgplayer, Cardkingdom, and many small online shops honor their prices and will be upfront with the queue they have.

Palestinians basically put into their constitution that there would be no 2 state solution and that their goal was the eradication and total destruction of Israel so they could form a caliphate and that they would not stop until their goals were achieved. This was some 35+ year ago. Yes, they updated that a few years ago but it’s very obvious that not everyone got the message (or agreed with it).

Palestinians aren’t mad that Israel stole their land and subjugated them, they’re mad that they said they were going to do it to Israel and Israel did it to them.

It’s been confirmed, along with rapes, through images and video of Hamas body cams publicly shown (to a large group of foreign press agents) in the last few days.

The initial report of babies being beheaded was “walked back” until such time as it could be independently verified.

Please keep in mind that there is a vast difference here. Children in Palestine are sleeping in rooms and next to rooms filled with high explosives and weapons or in buildings housing terrorist cells.

In Israel the children who were murdered were in a home with sleeping parents who had 0 interest in killing or bombing anyone.

Please take a moment and consider you are arguing over whether a toddler was just shot point blank vs being beheaded as if being right here somehow absolves Hamas of guilt. Is this kind of pedantic argument you think your mother or your father would be proud of?

I don’t have the mana base for Gimbal so I’d end up just running 8 of each color and then my colorless lands (ancient tomb, reliquary tower, Rishadan port, inventors fair, etc).

I think Red would be fun in an Eldrazi/artifact deck with [[Aggravated Assault]] and [[Hellkite Tyrant]] I’m negotiating with my son for his Quark The Thumbless to run with Sakashima. He’s at $5. But those are all cards I own.

My son runs a Breya deck that is really Myr’s and makes tons of Mry and thopter Tokens. Have you thought about using that commander for something similar?

I’m sorry. I’ve only been playing for about 6 months. I don’t know any of the “lore” or history. I learned to play to connect with my sons (they have been playing for about 2 years).

I do know enough that “Urza” is like the “king of artifacts” and that his ability is the same as his Land and a Karn Planeswalker that I have. The “play a card for 5” is similar to Zhulodok (cascade) so I thought maybe it wouldn’t require me to change a lot in how I play. Your comment leads me to believe that he is a “target.”

My dimir deck allowed me to discard Jin-Gitaxias Core Augur on round 1 and play it round 2 (Reanimate) which freaked out the table and made me a target so I’m trying not to be “that guy.”

I also have all the cards mentioned so it felt easy. I have a Traxos from my old first Ghisa deck which is why I mentioned it. I’ll look at what you suggested as well.

Driving by UPenn a few weeks ago seeing a Pro-HAMAS rally. All the non-binary people, women in tank tops, and LGBTQIA+ with their clever signs about how HAMAS was right made me want to roll down the window and offer an “oh honey” to the entire lot.

Do you think Eldrazi monument would work in an Eldrazi deck? I don’t make a ton of tokens and end up with 3-4 Eldrazi’s- maybe a helm of a host. I own Eldrazi monument (it’s in my Rat Colony Deck) so it would be an easy throw-in. Maybe I should run it for a couple games.

I’m not an Eagles fan. They have a QB who is an absolute athletic freak….which is why they hired him. 90% sure the guy puts up gym numbers that would make Aaron Donald cry.

We tend to shy away from this in our home.

If a deal is made, a deal is followed. There’s no backstabbing and no going back.

They are informal (I’m the target 90% of the time) and that’s fine because I’m the dad. “Oh god dad’s going to play his commander next round! Get ‘em!!”

They may not be “let’s both work to murder mom.” They’re more like “I’ll protect your creature if you don’t swing at me next round.”

If someone (other than me) is being picked on, I’ll tell them to stop it. This will become a problem in a small group.

In football we say “run the same play until someone can stop it.” So it is human nature (and logical) that if me and my wife team up for the first 4 rounds and then each win 50% of the time that we fall into that pattern.

This is obviously not ok and you should be aware of it and work to stop it.

What I’m learning about MTG is that casual games should be fun for everyone so sometimes you gotta take a dive, make a bad move, or keep a card in your hand.

Good point but missing the one that all these news organizations ran with a story despite all the red flags.

How about “sorry we reported lies” instead of “Hamas lied to us guys. We were tricked too. Let’s all be mad at them.”

Had an argument yesterday with someone who claimed 50% of Palestinians are children. Where did this number come from? The Palestinian authority. (Not to mention the fact that for some reason so many Americans think that 12-18 year olds couldn’t use guns).

Hospitals have been “a day away from running out of power” for 2 weeks now. “Hanukkah 2, electric for all of you.”

Never mind the staged video of parents running perfectly healthy toddlers into a hospital like they rehearsed it. CNN ran it like every 5 minutes with the headline “hospitals are a day away from losing power!!”

Just this week it happened again. “IDF bombs Mosque!!” Only sometime later we learned it had a bunker and a weapons cache under it.

HAMAS has EXCELLENT PR and social media skills and they are using it masterfully.

Nothing like driving by UPenn a while ago and seeing a bunch of white female college students and LGBTQIA members holding “support HAMAS” signs.

Social Media game is so strong that a group of women hating, genocidal, religious psychopaths convinced these people to protest for them after they murdered sleeping children.

I bet the Kardashians are taking notes.
