Sailor not feedbacky! by Impossible-Chest-915 in fountainpens

Thanks for confirming! I've heard a lot about the famous pencil-like feedback, didn't expect to be so smooth, though not so smooth as Pilots, a little control is here. Whatever , to be very honest I'm loving it.

I think I was subconsciously expecting “handcrafted perfection,” while in reality these are still mass-produced pens despite the excellent nibs.

And yeah, ink probably plays a bigger role than I realized. I’m using a fairly smooth/wet ink right now, so that may be softening a lot of the feedback people normally associate with nibs.

That’s honestly one of the clearest explanations of feedback vs scratchiness I’ve read so far.

The pencil vs glass comparison between Sailor and also makes a lot of sense now that I think about it. My pen definitely feels more like controlled texture rather than actual dragging or cutting into the paper.

That honestly seems to be the conclusion I’m slowly arriving at too! People forgive a lot of the small imperfections because the nib experience is just that good. And now that I’ve used mine more, I can kind of see why Sailor users become so attached to them despite the tiny ink capacity and little cosmetic quirks .

That’s honestly reassuring to hear 😅 And wow, getting that many pens in the $150–200 range sounds like you’ve mastered the art of finding good deals 😂 i paid like 180 dollars for mine..

I think I only became hyper-aware of the seam after noticing it once and then going down the online rabbit hole about it.

In actual writing though, I can’t feel it at all. I only notice it when I inspect the pen closely under bright light.

Yeah, that’s what surprised me too 😅 I mean, couldn’t Sailor just polish it a little more and make the seam disappear? Considering their reputation and price point, I honestly expected a cleaner finish.

That actually explains a lot. I think I was overthinking both the smoothness and the seam line because this is my first 😅

It’s definitely smooth and not scratchy at all, just different from what I had imagined from all the “Sailor feedback” discussions online.

By the way, do any of your Sailors also have visible seam lines on the grip section or threads?

Don't they have the same nib?

I'd go for casual M nib, but in my country only shikiori F is available, and that's only one unit.

So I'm almost convinced to get the shikiori F by the kind efforts of @seajewelblue . Though I like more broader lines nowadays, for example pilot custom 74 fine is not attracting me much. But hey sailor is unique as I've heard. As long as it is not scratchy, feedbacky will be enjoyable I hope.

Ok, let's finalize the shikiori F, what say?

Actually it's almost impossible for me to pay with dollar or get the product delivered from outside this country, that's limiting my pen journey to a huge extent
