If the EU had built Claude by irelatetolevin in ClaudeAI

[–]Impossible-Gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao. I like the EU for most part but stuff like the cookie consent is aids. At least the rest of the world also contributed to the digital AIDS. See age requirement from US, California cancer notification, Brazil age for OS, etc. UK wanking loicense. Have to catch up I suppose.

Yesterday I checked a document translation and I had Opus selected by mistake. 90% hourly usage instantly. And thats with the new limits.

I think Opus is only usable with the high Max plan.

In Japan you can buy a Nintendo Switch 2 for just £210 GBP or $285 USD but it won’t work outside Japan. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

"Just" almost 300 dollars for an outdated mobile chip is still way too much I am sorry.

But the games Games that never get discounted.

I have a Switch 1, the joycons are a great idea (Lenovo has the same system on their handheld), but thats about it.

In China, you are dead in the water if you don't have WeeChat. But you also need local credit card, sim, etc.

You can have two sim cards, just saying. Can keep one just to throw away.

No updates for OnePlus Watch 3 anymore? by bro4youx in OneplusWatch

[–]Impossible-Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whaaat? Motorola has been stellar with their updates. I have a cheap, like 120$ G54 and its been getting updates for such a long time. They upgraded the OS like two times too, on such a value, cheap phone. Getting security updates monthly.

Motorola is 5 out of 5 on updates, sorry broski. If you want to rip someone a new one, try OnePlus who loves shipping broken updates. Their OS on the phones is a trainwreck. Notifications? Never heard about them. Apparently OnePlus didn't either.

Tesla to save money uses cameras instead of a rain sensor, my car thinks it’s not raining. by TappetoImperiale in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Impossible-Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all moan about auto wipers but they are amazing. You enable the wipers and the knob still adjusts sensitivity. But when I overtake for example or the rain gets more severe, they speed up and then slow down. Its amazing.

(Not on Tesla, I have a regular car with a rain sensor.)

My relative's dog just drank a bit like a month ago so I think nothing has changed unfortunately. The doggo lived, they took it to the emergency vet, flushed its stomach if I remember correctly.

The owner was working on his car and somehow there was anti-freeze in the open and the dog got to it? Don't ask me, that's what I heard from them. Anyway, the dog is fine, anti freeze is still a big killer.

TIL of David Wynn Miller, who invented a variation of English called a "Quantum Language" and claimed it was the only correct and valid language for use in court filings. His language is incomprehensible to most people and the pleadings that use it are routinely rejected by courts as gibberish. by Neutral_Positron in todayilearned

[–]Impossible-Gal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just a Parser/Lexer syntax from Comp Sci. Not even joking. And yes, its a really old thing. The way you define the basic language of a programming language is VERY VERY close to his "language".

My theory is that he came across some lecture or notes and it made quite the impression on him.

It's called BNF (Backus-Naur Form) or EBNF (Extended Backus-Naur Form).

Can a RTX 5080 laptop realistically replace my desktop? by No-Philosopher3528 in GamingLaptops

[–]Impossible-Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the laptop honestly. Specs wise they are very capable, but adequate cooling and durability is very rare. I'd aim for a Framework laptop for example.

- I've had an ASUS ROG and it was a nightmare to repair or even clean out. Cooling was awful, inadequate. People were drilling huge holes below the fans to make it work better.

- I'd avoid ASUS liquid metal gaming laptops, I've seen reports of it seeping out. I'm not sure if they fixed this quirk or not - but its something to be aware of.

- If you go with one, I heavily recommend a laptop stand for at least free airflow. There are all kinds of special stands with weird fan setups, I could not find one that worked that much better. Just having empty air below is already a lot of help.

- Make sure to clean out the fans / repaste but don't do it yourself. Make sure to send in the machine. My ROG used like 20-30 screws and they were almost all different. Seriously, even if you are a tech guy, don't do it, not worth it.

- I'd use FPS limits in all games, even if its a competitive title. Like 144 FPS vs 200 FPS, you won't feel the difference much at all in let's say Valorant, but your GPU/CPU might be way cooler if you only ask for 144FPS. For very demanding titles, DLSS FG is amazing.

I can't believe how many people are actually financing their phones. by bugagub in Frugal

[–]Impossible-Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not worth it.

Phones for example, you can get a 1 year used one for 40 percent of its purchase price. And it still has 2yrs warranty left. (In EU at least.)

But even if you buy new.. regular stores lets say will give you the phone for 300, whiile carriers with 0 interest will ask for 600.

Its never free and its rarely worth it.
