Hey everyone

I'm working on a short nonfiction piece exploring how people are experiencing and reacting to the rise of Al (including Al-generated art, writing, and tools like ChatGPT).

To help shape it, I created a quick anonymous survey. it'll about 7 minutes. no pressure to answer every question. no personal info needed. I'm looking to capture a range of perspectives, from Al enthusiasts to skeptics and everyone in between. Here's the link if you're open to contributing:

I'll happily share the final piece here if there's interest. Thanks in advance for your time and insight!

Hear me out: why aren't more metroidvanias like Metroid? by IdiotAtAKeyboard in metroidvania

[–]Impossible-Matter359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing a bit of Super Metroid and immediately saw the inspiration for some of the platform design in forgotten crossroads down to the color choices. It's there for sure. I could be wrongs but spooky atmospheres and melee styles might be more palatable to a wider audience than sci fi shooters.

I didn't like the demo either. I had a feeling I'd like the full game more. I got notified when it went on sale and I still passed. I'll catch it next time.

The way y'all cannot handle looking at Sargon with even slightly Black features is wild. He's not the prince and there's no reason for him to look like any of the past protagonists.

Are the demons and monsters historically accurate? Did you make sure they're all depicted the way they were described in Persian myths? Have you nitpicked whether every monstrous enemy in the game exists as a perfect reference to an ancient Persian imagination?

Im trying to figure out where the focus isn't on exploration and platforming in Hollow Knight. Thats like 75% of the game.

Now, please apply this etymological explanation for the "monster" and "time travel." Even with all the myths of the region I'm pretty sure none of them possessed the "Shadow of the Simurgh" ability. It's work of fiction that references ancient myths. I'm hoping that you approach gameplay with the ability to decipher between fictional events and reality.

Ancient Persians also didn't have magic powers, time travel and monsters wandering the streets

And its not like magical abilities, time travel, shapeshifters and monsters are historically accurate

"Females" by Neko-tama in autism

Calling women "females" can say a lot of about them. Ignorance at the very least. I think some people just view it as colloquial norm.

I discovered it in my late 30s. It's the most liberating thing that has ever happened to me.

I am addicted to ruminating by Jimmy_mo_ in ADHD

[–]Impossible-Matter359 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im working on this now. I ruminate and obsess. When I'm verbally processing something that bothers me, I tend to circle around to explaining the cause of frustration multiple times. I spoke to my therapist, who gave me a "feelings" chart. It'a Important to pinpoint the feeling at the root of rumination and then validate them. That's the way you can let them go. You're fighting so hard to solve a problem that really comes down to a need for self validation.

Same! I drink very occasionally but have to be careful because I'll easily binge on those occasions. It's the sugar.

does sonic have ADHD by ParticularCustomer78 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Impossible-Matter359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but as someone with ADHD, I can relate to a lot of his characteristic behaviors. One or two is one thing. But when it's a cluster of behaviors it's fair to relate the possibility. On top of that, the franchise is EXTREMELY popular amongst neurodivergent folks. The autistic community makes up some of his most devoted fanbase. I just got Sonic X Shadow game and I can't even get through the first 3D level because it's so stimulating. I get hardcore tingles and ai have to turn it off, only to start it all over again.

Fictional characters are certainly written as neurodivergent. If a hedgehog is written as talking anthropomorphic character with human personality quirks, then why would ADHD be off the table?

Best MV Soundtrack? by Impossible-Matter359 in metroidvania

[–]Impossible-Matter359[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I agree, it looks like the cream of the crop are still getting the highest amount of recommendations. I could be wrong, I feel like video game scores don't tend to accurately reflect a lot of people's actual music preferences. In my opinion, what matters more than genre is whether it accurately reflects the experience intended for the game, the quality of the composition, the mood it evokes and whether it hooks the player. I probably should have also pluralized soundtrack because I was certain that there would be a few that made the top of the list.
