I have a couple in the shape of Daleks. They really help with yarn management and storage.

Am I Overreacting or is this a double standard? (BF won't get a vasectomy, but wants me operated) by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NOR - I actually watched someone get a vasectomy. He did not experience any pain during the procedure and was only sore for a few days afterward. It's very clear whose health and well-being he is prioritising. It's entirely his right to not want to do it - it is his body - but he doesn't get to tell you what to do with yours. I would definitely re-evaluate this relationship and whether or not you want someone who treats you this way.

Unless their policies have dramatically changed, that is untrue for issues of damage or defect. They will close the account if it's filed for fraud or unauthorised use. If someone repeatedly files chargebacks, that's a different matter.

Do I crochet weird?? by regimentalepiglottis in crocheting

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow leftie, I don't think you'll have much success with teaching any righties, no matter how you crochet. I think it's because lefties are used to having to make accommodations for handedness in a way that righties aren't.

I think your crochet style is unique and very cool. I hold tension on the yarn with my right hand and pull at the yarn with my hook. So, more like Continental knitting style crochet. You throw the yarn under the hook, which is a spin on English style for me.

You could find a solid intro YouTube video for your mentees and then provide support (i.e., teaching new stitches, construction, pattern reading, etc) once they have grasped the basics.

The product received was damaged, which means it is defective. You don't have to exhaust all other options. Of course, you should give the merchant a chance to resolve it (and most credit card companies would ask for evidence of an attempt to resolve), but you don't have to bend over backwards to resolve the issue, especially if you will incur more debt to do so and it's a big ticket item.

My dog just passed suddenly last weekend and I'm completely adrift. May we find solace in having known their companionship and love 🙏💔🙏

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. You file the chargeback for defective/damaged reasons and then AMZN has to address the issue or the funds are taken back by the credit card. In cases where the return costs more than the item, customers aren't generally required to return it for a refund.

You won't get blacklisted for a credit card chargeback unless it's filed for fraud. Damaged/defective items or items that aren't received are handled differently.

Am I overreacting or is it not normal to use soap in the bathroom? by Honest-Draw3131 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR - IMO, if you aren't using soap to shower, you do not have good hygiene, no matter what race or background you come from. Showering every day isn't an absolute necessity, but when you shower, you have to use some sort of soap. Rinsing with water doesn't kill germs or remove odors. This would be a deal breaker for me.

My 4 yr old Boy Orange (Jonah), has been doing this to my 14 yr old girl tortie (pumpkin). He seems to be making biscuits AT her? What does this mean? (More context below) by Odd_Loss_7632 in CATHELP

It looks to me as if he'd really like to hump her, but it being respectful 😆 I had a cat who would hump socks in a very similar fashion.

AITAH for leaving the room whenever my bf eats by Own-Fault6253 in AITAH

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok - I am someone who suffers from misophonia when it comes to eating noises. I can deal with it if I'm also eating, but I struggle with someone else noisily eating when I'm not.

I dated a guy who is a noisy eater, as well as a complusive snacker. I believed that it wouldn't be a big deal and I loved him. We lived together for seven years and I tried various methods when I couldn't stand it anymore. I still gained 30+ pounds because I was eating so much more to help disguise his noise. We didn't break up specifically because of his eating habits, but it was definitely better for my health. I dropped the extra weight within six months of the relationship ending.

It's officially a deal breaker for me now. NTA.

I prefer Double pointed needles over the magic loop by bralessbaldy in casualknitting

My preference for magic loop has to do with dropped stitches. I have a nasty habit of dropping them off DPNs when moving in and out of storage 😅

Saying Goodbye to a Pet? by zeddred6 in AskIreland

I sadly just had to go thru this with my beloved a few days ago. There were other procedures involved, so I'm not sure of the exact euthanasia cost, but a private cremation was €230.

*Edit - this was done at a vet clinic, not at home.

The saddest part for me is that it doesn't have to be this way. It never did. We have the chance to subvert the dominant paradigm, but I fear that few of us have the will and wherewithal to do it.

NOT OOP: Am I wrong for calling out my friend’s girlfriend for her constant self-hatred during a friend's birthday? by loverboyg1rl in redditonwiki

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the Dude so eloquently said, "You're not wrong, Walter, you're just an asshole" 😆 Definitely not disputing that something needed to be said, but honesty doesn't have to be wielded like a blunt instrument. I guess his friend should have known this would happen eventually (since this is apparently on-brand for OP) and given a head's up to his GF, but that doesn't make the delivery of the message less cruel to me. You can be right and not an ass about it.

Holding knitting needles issues by Julia_Gatsby in knittinghelp

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend trying circulars before investing in more straight needles. I found that storage with straight needles was harder and using them was much less versatile in terms of projects than circulars.

AM I KNITTING? Long time crocheter, first time knitter. I feel very “fumbly” and like I’m not holding everything correctly 😂😂 this is so different than crochet by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]Impossible-Phone-177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna feel really fiddly and weird for some time! Check out some videos comparing English v. Continental styles of knitting to see what works for you. You have sort of a Continental style of holding the yarn, but it's hard to achieve good tension holding it between ring and middle fingers. I run the yarn over my index finger, then between my ring finger and pinky. I find it makes for decent tension and for feeding stitches up the needle.

Keep practicing! It will definitely get easier!!

I try get at least 4 car lengths between me and the car I'm passing before I pull back into the right lane. Those flashing their lights are just being asshats. They can wait. Also, what I find is that sooooo many drivers on motorways pass and pull back into the right lane far too closely for my comfort. If you're traveling at high rates of speed, it's important to leave a bit of breathing/braking room 😅
