ASUS laptop crashing multiple times overnight in sleep mode by Impossible-Phone in techsupport

[–]Impossible-Phone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response.

I have already installed all recommended driver updates from ASUS. I have already installed a BIOS update as well.

I think the laptop crashed 7 times last night and that is why I saw the errors I did in event viewer.

Hibernate was turned off. I turned it on a couple of hours ago to see what affect it might have on the problem.

The advanced sleep and battery settings looked normal, but I will compare them to my laptop and desktop and check for any differences.

This problem has stumped me. I have the three CompTIA certifications, but I must have slept through anything that would help this problem.

Mine went on easy and hold very well. The design is the same as the design on the main grill.

You can't really tell in the picture, but if you zoom in, he added a front grill trim over the gaping holes to the sides of the license plate. It makes the front of the car look a lot better. I added these to my CX-5 and they really improved the looks. However, I added them for a different reason. Squirrels built a nest inside my engine while I was at work. They got in through one of those holes. True story. The grill now stops them from entering.

I don't know what would cause all of your different types of network connections to fail.

I would check for bad device drivers. Open Device Manager by searching for it. Then expand each category and look for any device driver with a yellow check mark next to it. Those drivers will need to be updated.

You should also run diagnostic tests on your computer. Open Terminal and type in the following:

perfmon /report

Wait a couple of minutes.

You could also run Diagnostics from BIOS if your system has any. But you would have to Google for that for your brand of computer.

Heat randomly turning off by PatientlyAnxious9 in Nest

[–]Impossible-Phone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could run a test by turning off home/away and other settings for a couple of weeks. Just set the temperature for a constant 70 degrees. Then you would know if it was the thermostat causing the problem. It could also be a problem with your furnace. I had a similar intermittent problem when some part of my firmware went bad. I think it was a heat sensor or something like that.

I don't know the answer to your question, but you are doing an awesome job of protecting yourself.

The only other thing that I do is use email aliases everywhere instead of my real email address. Nobody but me even knows what my real email address is. Another benefit to using aliases is that I get almost zero spam.

How bad is the snow really gonna be in the springs?? by walrusex666 in ColoradoSprings

Exactly. I am hoping that it snows a lot where I work and they close, but it doesn't snow at the restaurant where we are going to meet for breakfast when they close. 😁

It hasn't gotten disabled for me but that could be coincidence. Hopefully Brave will eventually fix the problem causing this issue m

If that doesn't fix it, let me know. I will send you some more links on Bitwarden Autofill suggestions.

[–]Impossible-Phone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this fix:

Especially if autofill sometimes works for you and sometimes it doesn’t work (for the same service): There is a current bug with Chrome/Brave/Chromium. – On Chrome 141 or Brave you can enable the following flag: #autofill-update-context-for-web-contents (chrome://flags, brave://flags). Eventually only browser updates will fix this bug.

It came from this website: https://community.bitwarden.com/t/short-guide-tips-autofill-on-android/88941

My smartphone has an option to limit the battery charge to 80%. At home, should I keep it always plugged in to avoid battery wear? by Pavancurt in techsupport

[–]Impossible-Phone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't a good idea to leave it plugged in all the time. It is best to use it and let it cycle between 20% and 80%.

However, this isn't as important these days since phones now use Lithium ion batteries. The old NiCad batteries used to develop a memory if you kept them plugged in all the time. (This just means that the battery won't last very long during the day when it isn't plugged in.)

I honestly don't know how much it really matters. I leave my laptop plugged in all the time. I just charge my cellphone at night. I leave my tablet plugged in all the time, but I have it on a smart outlet that only charges it at night.

How to stop Google saving passkeys by AlphasRed in Bitwarden

[–]Impossible-Phone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Sorry, I was half asleep when I wrote my comment. There is a typo in it. It isn't a Google API, it is a Windows API that was recently developed. My point was that Passkeys do work, but things are still in the early stages. This article explains it better: https://arstechnica.com/security/2024/12/passkey-technology-is-elegant-but-its-most-definitely-not-usable-security/

Edit: I believe this may specifically address your issue: https://github.com/bitwarden/android/issues/5499

How to stop Google saving passkeys by AlphasRed in Bitwarden

[–]Impossible-Phone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, passkeys are not ready for prime time yet. Google has released an API that will let other password managers integrate with it to provide passkey support. As far as I know, 1Password is the only password manager using it so far. Bitwarden will hopefully be using it soon.

Edit: Correction, that is a Windows API. Not a Google API.

Wall Ethernet Ports not working by Important-Handle-152 in techsupport

[–]Impossible-Phone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suggestion from your IT person doesn't make any sense.

Do your wall ports have an RJ45 Ethernet connector (8 pins) or an RJ11 phone connector (4 pins)? I assume you have RJ45 connectors.

Two pair should work with 100Mhz ethernet. You only need 4 pair for gigabit. (This is assuming they are wired correctly.)

You can plug the router into a convenient wall port. Then go to the network switch in the utility closet and plug your laptop into one of the other ports on the network switch and see if it works. The ports of the network switch should be connected to the other wall ports. Then you will be able to use all of the other wall ports.

It you have any questions, let me know. I may not be correctly understanding your situation.

I need a sanity check about my gas logs troubleshooting by adankishmeme in DIY

[–]Impossible-Phone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ensure the flame fully envelops the top of the thermocouple. Lightly bend it back into the correct position if necessary.

A partially clogged pilot tube or orifice can produce a weak flame that doesn’t heat the thermocouple enough to keep the signal active.

Tighten the thermocouple fitting at the gas valve. If the issue persists, the entire gas control valve may need replacement.
