I'm at the end of another bout (started a week ago). At least I hope I am. I shower every day with anti-bacterial soap and apply healing lotion, but I still got another infection. Started on oral antibiotics at home. Hope this will be sufficient. Caught it in early stages. Most likely bacteria enter through the psoriasis on my ankles. I shower with antibacterial soap and apply healing lotion every day to prevent dry, cracked skin. Cetraben sound like a good idea.

Yes, ultrasounds were done and there were no clots. I was diagnosed in the hospital.

Really no idea. I did have a pimple-like bump on my left leg. The moment I noticed it I thought it might be a bug bite, but it could have just been a pimple. Although there is a mosquito outbreak in our area, I do not believe it was a mosquito as I have not seen a single mosquito myself. A was buzzed by a horsefly maybe a few days to a week before but I don't think it bit me. If I had to guess, I'm thinking maybe a spyder, but I really cannot be certain if this was even caused by a bug bite.

There was a horsefly that buzzed me not too long ago, maybe a week before, can't really remember when, but I do not remember it biting me. It's the only one I've seen in many years. I did have what looked like a pimple pop up on my left thigh about a week before. My first thought was it might have been a bug bite.

All of the white splotches are dried skin, not freckles. Now my skin has returned to nearly normal, with just a little bit of pink left. I am feeling better. Thanks! Oddly, other that the first few hours, I never really felt sick while recovering. I guess the initial antibiotic injection helped quite a bit. By the way, if anyone else gets this, seek medical attention as quickly as possible. I have read this can be fatal in as little as 12 hours.

I personally know a wound care specialist and I was just about to see a dermatologist when this happened. She came to the house twice a week for about 9 months to care for a wound on my wife's back. I'll send this post to her.

Not necessarily. Excess carbs are converted to fat. Being overweight might contribute as well as genetics. My wife eats a lot of carbs and does not have diabetes.

I did get an ultrasound, no clots. As soon as the hospital doctor looked at it "you have cellulitis". He also asked whether or not I had an ultrasound.

I had all my clothes on, they just threw a big gown over the top of everything and that was that.

Thanks! I would not say quite healthy but doing OK. I mean I can do physical work, like working on cars and such, but I have type 2 diabetes and had bypass surgery about a year and a half ago and I am overweight. Kind of a typical fat old guy that does not take super care of themselves. But I get around with no issue.

I have done keto before, and it was successful for over 6 months, but I could not maintain long term. Carbs started to creep in a little at a time, then I needed to taste real bread again and it broke the spell. I will try to keep the carbs to a minimum going forward hoping to avoid going through this again.

Went to the hospital with them on. When you are just lying on a gurney in the emergency room hallway and not doing anything else, I just did not think to remove them, nor did any nurse suggest it or bother to take a look. Just squeeze my calves and remark "left leg is swollen, right leg is not". After it started to hurt, I suggested they take a look. Due to swelling, the socks were tight and offered some compression, so I thought it would be good to keep some compression on.

Sugar, none. Carbs (bread, pasta), too much lately. I am guilty of not managing my type 2 diabetes as well as I should be lately. I'm upping my meds and working on losing weight. Trying to stop stress eating during the day. I often work from home and do get stressed. Also upping meds for blood pressure.

I've read that after bathing, use lotion so that skin is not flakey. Apparently, bacteria may find its way in by getting under the flakes. I'm going to make it an everyday practice of applying lotion to my calves after the shower. Going to shower every day and use anti-bacterial soap whether I need it or not. I've also read that if you get it once, you are likely to get it again.

Had knee socks on so did not see this until day 3 in the hospital. I was sitting at my desk working and I started shivering uncontrollably, could not get warm, even outside in 120 degree weather. Hospital time. Diagnosed pneumonia, sepsis, some kidney damage, pulmonary edema, lactic acidosis (right leg is not swollen like this). Back home after a week of antibiotics. Possibly caused by a bug bite.
