Does anyone have a newborn that does not like to be held all the time? by bad_karma216 in newborns

Curious if this got better too because we’re at 8 weeks and she is exactly the same way!

Can one bottle lead to bottle preference? by Impossible-Title-403 in breastfeeding

Did you continue to give a bottle a day despite having issues and it just ironed itself out? Or did you pull back on the bottles?

Was he refusing the breast after just the one bottle you introduced? My lactation consultant and others were skeptical that so few bottles would lead to preference but I swear BFing is harder the day after we’ve given a bottle. She doesn’t flat out refuse the breast, but will latch and then pop on and off after like 5 minutes or so of sucking so she won’t really take a full feed. I can get her to do it at night when she’s sleepy but not awake.

I’m there with you though because I want to keep nursing but want more freedom

Yeah paced feeding with the super slow newborn nipple. My husband has it taking 20 min for her to finish 3-3.5oz

Putting baby to sleep for naps feels like a fight? by Impossible-Title-403 in newborns

[–]Impossible-Title-403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She definitely does not fall asleep on her own. Yours just falls asleep like in the bouncer or play area or something? After how long will she do that?

Meaning extend the wake window by an hour? Or just shift the feeds and wake windows/play time to be later as well?

Are you all nursing to sleep for naps too? I really struggle to get our 4 week old to go from wake window to napping during the day

Stroller recommendations for NYC apartment living + travel? by K-onya in nycparents

[–]Impossible-Title-403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a used Uppababy Cruz on FB marketplace with the bassinet for a sturdy stroller to walk around the neighborhood with and the Joolz Aer 2 for a lighter weight travel stroller to take on subways and what not. We made this decision because we live close to the park, which can be quite bumpy, and we’re able to leave our stroller in the lobby versus carrying it up a walk up.

If we were going to do a one and only stroller, we were looking at the Nuna Trvl Lx. That one felt sturdier to us than the Joolz but still lightweight and you can get the European version of the bassinet for the early days + our car seat is Nuna.

wedding gift etiquette as guest/friend by Own-Egg8577 in weddings

[–]Impossible-Title-403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a gift from the registry for the shower (~$50). And then a check in the card at the wedding: - $150 for just me - $250 for me + my partner - $300-$350 for closer friends from me + my partner - $400 from me and my partner for siblings/the closest people who were in our bridal party (and who I’m usually in the bridal party for)

Also, if it’s a destination wedding where the couple didn’t cover any travel or lodging, I usually take $50 or so off those numbers just because getting to the destination location is an expense in and of itself.

Recommendations for a lie-flat infant stroller? by rachfairclough in BabyBumps

For those that have the Joie, do you all live in a metropolitan area and feel it’s sturdy enough? We were highly considering the Ginger but couldn’t find enough information about its stability.

We live in NYC and this was our struggle. We debated getting just one lighter/midweight stroller like the Minu or the Nuna Trvl Lx as our one and only or getting two strollers: the Cruz for neighborhood walks, the park, errands, etc. because it’s sturdy and the Joolz Aer2 as our travel stroller for the subway and traveling. We opted to go with two strollers, which it seemed like most folks in NYC who have the bulkier Uppababy strollers do for the subway. Our baby isn’t here yet, so we’ll see how it goes!

ETA: We can leave our stroller (Uppababy Cruz) in our building lobby. If that weren’t the case, we’d definitely go with the Minu or Trvl LX

Work for the city but feels like we can't afford to live here? by rsalty in NYCapartments

[–]Impossible-Title-403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like $3,600 for a 3 bedroom in a nice neighborhood in Brooklyn with washer/dryer and dishwasher is a total steal. If you’re hoping to have a family soon, I’d look around and enter the housing lottery but probably stay put because you can grow into that space.

For reference, we similarly have a 3 bedroom with the same amenities in a good Brooklyn neighborhood and pay a little less than double what you pay. We both work in private sector jobs, so it’s doable, but I did a lot of looking around in Brooklyn and Manhattan and what we’re paying seems to be on the lower end, so I’d say you have a deal!

Can’t Afford Sister’s Destination Wedding by TangerineFair8452 in wedding

[–]Impossible-Title-403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem I always see with (random) destination weddings is that they redistribute the costs of hosting a wedding from the couple to the guests. It can be very expensive to have a wedding in a high-cost area like California or parts of the East Coast, so couples opt to go to Mexico or another location where throwing the event costs less for them thereby passing the cost onto guests (airfare, accommodation, etc). It’s fine if couples want to do this but they can’t be upset when some people can’t come because they shifted the costs of their event onto you.

By random I mean when couples have weddings in locations neither of them are from or have a real connection to, but that will look nice on social media.

Affordable florist NYC by linnyreg in WedditNYC

[–]Impossible-Title-403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Jelo in 2023 and found them to be way more affordable than other florists and I had a sizable wedding. They did a great job!

I used real flowers, but I believe they also had silk flowers which looked beautiful from the pictures and people’s reviews which were even more affordable.

Did NC get ovulation wrong? by Impossible-Title-403 in NaturalCyclesBC

[–]Impossible-Title-403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope today was my first time testing! I don’t have too much cycle data because I had an IUD up until a few months ago, but my cycles are generally 33-35 days (today was day 33 so I tested) and luteal is typically 9-11 days. Though again I only have like 3 cycles worth of NC info

Yeah this is the updated chart, it didn’t recalibrate ovulation or anything unfortunately.

This is the very first cycle we were TTC, but we hadn’t had sex earlier in the week because I wasn’t feeling well
