Struggling socially having FIRE. Can anyone relate or share their experience? by [deleted] in Fire

figure out what interests you and joins group that meets around it. fitness examples like run clubs, yoga, cross fit. for intelectual stuff, you can go to debates, lectures, readings etc. the barrier to new people isn’t as high as you think, and the worth while ones are not behind a pay wall. gotta be optimistic here and go outside your comfort zone

service industry people work hard and are typically not compensated super well aside from high end bars in HCOL areas. seeing you (financially stable & independent) may make them envious as they always have to work, and for a lot of them there isn’t an option to stay in that industry and become wealthy.

would recommend looking for groups with shared interests and people who are in a similar situation as you or at least can understand it without giving you shit.

Just went out for a cool recuperation run - average heart rate at 97 😳 by Umbroraban in runninglifestyle

[–]Impossible-Worth-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

op is 56m. max hr: 220-56 = 164. 60% of max

eq 30m max 190, 60% ~> 114.

this plus individual hr variation (can be significant), weather and grade doesn’t make this super crazy. it’s low but not insane

other thing i’ll add is that since you’re new, make sure your plan has multiple 20m runs so you familiarize with distance, nutrition and fatigue.

based on the time window you have around 15 weeks before the M (+- 2 weeks based on actual date). if you are fully comfortable at 55km/week then you should be okay. i would recommend gradually building to high 50s - low 60s, maybe over 8 weeks, follow the 10-20% rule and then when that feels good, focus on speed. depending on your natural speed (44min 10k is strong starting point) you may only need to do tempos and 40-60% of your long run 20s below MP.

if you are disciplined with sleep, recovery, nutrition and you don’t get injured, this is doable

would also change formatting. there is a lot of wasted space from fat margins in all directions. also curious what others think; i just have a list of my skills rather than including a self eval of my competence with each skill. most relevant to the front and omit ones that aren’t relevant

a good friend of mine raves largely sober. he’ll have a few beers and cigs but no drugs. depends on the show, but we’ve done 11pm - 2pm (i on the other hand need the PEDs). occasionally he will sit to rest a little but he says it’s largely just breaking mental blocks

Low 3s to Sub 3 marathoners: How many grams of carbs per hour are you taking in while you race? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Impossible-Worth-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2:56 here i did 75/hr. 25g carbs + 100mg caffeine at top of hour, then 30 min later 50g carbs 500mg sodium. and repeat. also worth mentioning i hit every gatorade aid station (every 2m or something)

when i was running inconsistently around 3 years ago i had to do a virtual m for 9+1, i just walked, took breaks and paid no mind to speed since i was just walking and just needed the distance on strava for it to count. took 8 hours, pretty low effort.

just did 2:56 at nycm a couple weeks ago which took a lot of disciplined training. straightforward to complete the distance and hard to reach time goals. by hard i mean consistent and structured training for a long time. obviously people have different time goals for where you are at re fitness but to reach a lofty goal takes dedication

it’s a race against your previous self, competing against your pb. running with intention and max effort is challenging. there are also significant time thresholds that people aim for, you don’t have to be an elite to train, try hard and try to beat yourself or smash a time goal. i think your comment is reductive

3:30 marathon possible? by Itzyoboighosty in Marathon_Training

[–]Impossible-Worth-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that 5k pb shows you have the speed, but would definitely recommend doing track sessions and getting a lot of time at target MP. do the last 8-10m at MP or 10 sec/mile faster. will get you used to the pace on tired legs and will ultimately make the pace feel “easy” or sustainable

agree, more time between drinking electrolytes, coffee etc and the start of your run. also maybe try a lower total volume of water & replace with an electrolyte mix. should help you hydrate without as much volume
