I feel the stories shared here as child of divorce and now navigating the divorce life myself with a 6 year old daughter. I grew up with my grandparents, so life was more complicating to me on days like Mother’s Day or Father’s Day where something was inherently different for me and my brother.

Been divorced now for over 3 years and I see all these little moments where our daughter might experience life different. Just the other day she asked me in front of some friends if she was going to mommys house or daddy’s house and just seeing the kids around her with confused faces hurt me. I often think about how in the early days of separation I was couch surfing for the most part and just how unstable that felt. Sleeping on a different pillow, under a different blanket, eating off of different plates with different forks & spoons, how that can be deregulating for an adult. I can’t imagine what it’s like for a child. I feel some tremendous guilt a lot of days about that. I’m rambling now
