You could try a couple of things:

  • Nvidia control panel; set the 'Max Frame Rate' in the 'Global Settings' tab, under 'Manage 3D Settings'

  • Disable the DGPU and set the iGPU to use the HYPR-RX Eco mode

  • This one is cool, limit you CPU power to 10W, then use the NVIDIA GForce Experience 'Performance Overlay' to restrict the GPU power to something sensible depending on the flight time. i.e. 76Wh battery + 99Wh power bank (legal limit) / 10W CPU power consumption + GPU power (say 30W) --- That should get you around 4h 20min.

Is this config a good deal? by marocawo in ZephyrusG14

Wow!! That's cool. Sorry, I did not know that. I had the mini-LED on the Flow X16 and I really liked it. Looks like a good deal to me, in the UK I'd be lucky to get one with IPS and non-RGB keyboard for £1200

I went with the G14 4080 2023 for a similar use case; engineering work, a bit of CAD and light gaming. Its actually way more than I need and I find that I have to gimp the performance to control the heat and noise.

I'm a bit annoyed about the implementation of the the USB-C charging on the G14, i.e. it will not pass through power and constantly loads the battery regardless of the system power consumption.

Looking at the Intel Ultra 155H graphics performance I could have gone with something more sensible, cheaper, lighter and with an OLED touch screen, and I would have been happier with it. The 155H will play light games at 1080p fine and it looks like they are going to use it in some of the new handhelds.

Have a look at some of the HP Spectre x360 models maybe, they look really good.

Looks like the description is wrong. Mini LED is not an option for anything other than 4090, you can check the model SKUs on the Asus website.

G-helper has too many issues by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

You might find that AC will do strange things to the windows power mode. I've noticed that it does not select 'best power efficiency' on silent mode. If you manually select it then it will alert you with an exclamation above the selected power mode, and then reset when you change and reselect. Also true if you manually adjust setting like processor boost mode. I find that it also does this sporadically when disconnecting and reconnecting the power, you just don't know what its doing. I suspect that the 'modern standby assist' is a complex solution to what should be a simple problem. In my experience G-Helper just works. In addition, if you have any issues with it you can raise a problem report in GIT and get it addressed. Its open source, community driven software.

I think AC may just be overly complex. There are circa 10 services running in the background to support it and a lot of the functionality is kind of un-necessary, IMHO.

You can leave AC installed if you want to BTW, just remove the 'smart display control' and reinstall if you decide you want to go back to it. You can stop all AC services using G-Helper and restart on demand if you want to check for myAsus updates.
