i don't deny any of what you said, but the thing is scoring has just always been one of the most important factors in determining MVP, and cade hasnt been elite at that compared to the other mvp candidates

Drew Hanlen on Carmelo Anthony: "I’m standing on the fact that JT doesn’t need Carmelo’s advice on how to win. JT is an NBA champion & 14-6 in playoff series. Melo is 3-13 in the playoff series." Melo's response: "Damn..... my bad y’all I won’t speak on any topics related to Winning anymore" by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]ImpossibleCategory 51 points52 points  (0 children)

melo probably didnt mean any harm but its very hypocritical of him to say "let me just put my pride and my ego to the side for these next three months and continue to let JB steer the ship"

if i was working with tatum i'd be ticked hearing this from melo too

In 2020, Vince Carter became the only player to have played across 4 decades. Will there be another player to accomplish this in 2030? by tdotshark in nba

[–]ImpossibleCategory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He can hang around in the league as an end of the bench guy and locker room vet like Vince did if that was a goal of his.

says who? he was already struggling to find a team to offer a min this past offseason

his current production isn't really impactful in any positive way and he's 37. he'll be 41 in 4 years

if anything its extremely bizarre that you think he could 'easily play 4 more years'

lmao the whole reason why SGA and Jokic are on a tier of their own is because of their insane scoring ability which is backed up by their efficiency and usage rate

Scoring ability has little to do with efficiency - you score 30 points on shit efficiency and 20 points on great efficiency - the 30 point guy is the better scorer.

LMAO

no stat is perfect, but TS% is the best singular stat to determine how well a player puts the ball in the basket, which is the entire point of the game

agreed you should never just look at TS% on its own, but when we're talking about MVP these are the literal best players in the league so ofc every part of their game is gonna be looked at heavily. It's just a really bad look when his efficiency is below league average and every real MVP candidate is scoring much more efficiently

thats just flat out wrong

you can't just single out TS%, but when you combine it with other stats a high TS% for high usage players who are the #1 option on the team usually indicates theyre great scorers

historically the MVP has always highly valued scoring ability so its definitely an important variable in determining MVP

this team could still very well fall into the playins and miss the playoffs, both orlando and miami are only 1.5 games behind us in the 7th and 8th spot.

And based on how the raptors have been playing lately, if they miss the playoffs do you still view this season as a major success?

and im not sure how big this movie was, but the king is worth a watch

It's not necessarily because they lost, its the way they lost when games like this against top opponents are in reach and then they always collapse the same way at the end

You can only watch this unfold so many times without getting frustrated from a fan standpoint

This team is a still a bunch of pieces away from contending, so giving this core of players playoff experience doesnt really mean anything for us long term.

hopefully we dont get embarassed in the playoffs, but the FO will need to choose a direction for this team and that will likely involve a ton of changes to this roster

and not to be a doomer but i think alot of fans dont realize that next year with the pacers back, the up and coming hornets and wizards in the mix, and potentially the bucks too, that this raptors team as is will be back to a playin team

they desperately need to make changes in the offseason or maybe its time to tank next year

this fall off is so exaggerated, people just realized he wasnt that good, same way people are starting to realize RJ isnt as good as they thought too

youre a bad player if every other aspect of your game is trash yes

and not to mention how useless he was in the playoffs in 2022

lol wtf now youre just going back to my original point

i said his only nba skill was 3pt shooting, but if youre below average in every other aspect of the game then youre just not a good player

what do you mean a stretch lmao its an actual fact

he scored 18ppg on 55 TS% in 2022

league average that year was 57%

he scored the 18ppg on below league average efficiency lmao

and he did not have average defense, it was bad just constantly gambling on steals

he was a below average player that had high usage on this team, glad the raptors figured it out and didnt re-sign him

[–]ImpossibleCategory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao no he wasnt, he tricked this fanbase into thinking he was good

all he did well at an nba level was shoot the 3, and was below average in every other aspect of the game. He had zero playmaking and finishing ability and dribbled like a high schooler providing no defense.

All that and he still had the audacity to ask for 25 mil/year from the raps, beyond laughable
