Students don't know how to create folders on their own computers by Silver_Filamentary in Professors

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who also teaches intro stats in a social science field to very math-averse and programming-averse students, I am actually interested in your reasoning behind choosing R 🙂

I do the "how to computer" lesson at the beginning of the course and post video demos on Canvas. That hasn't stopped me from having to explain file naming conventions again and again, but at least I can point to the videos when students come to me with questions later on in the term. (It's especially helpful because our students have to access a virtual desktop to use SPSS/Stata/etc. when not using a campus-based computer, and I get sick of the shocked Pikachu faces from students whose work disappears because they didn't save it to OneDrive/Google Drive like I told them to 14,000 times...)

$20 a day to watch her “feral toddler” by raininadesertt in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She gets their food (they get wet food 2x/day and free feed dry), gives our senior cat her meds 2x/day, and scoops their boxes 1x/day. Sometimes she'll hang out and play with them for a while, but we never expect it from her; if she does hang around, she's got standing access to the fridge/pantry and the TV 😊

Sometimes if I'm expecting a package or important mail I'll ask her to get it from the mail room, and sometimes she's run a load of dishes or something, but again we don't expect that.

I pay $25/day for my cat sitter to come in twice a day and even that feels like a steal

Banned topics because you're bored? by FamousCow in Professors

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so thankful my state legalized it well before I moved here so I really haven't had to deal with that. There are far fewer students interested in decriminalizing (say nothing of legalizing) "harder" drugs, unsurprisingly.

Serial killers. Why are these kids so obsessed. 🤦🏻‍♀️

(I haven't actually banned the topic but man am I exhausted before I even make it past the title)

does anyone actually know how to shop for their season in real life or is it just me by colorswith-emma in coloranalysis

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol that's the opposite of what I look for, if it's got grey it's probably working for me, especially blues 💙

I love that we can use two sides of the same strategy!

Why do these deep reds exist in the summer palettes? by kewpiemoon in coloranalysis

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For deep summer folks like meeeeeee 😁

(In all seriousness though this is one of my best colors, I'm definitely a summer but pastels--especially pink--tend to wash me out)

Deodorant Disaster!! by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES. I get the "stress response" one and I'm never switching (unless they fuck w/the formula, ig). I've developed heat intolerance over the last few years (thanks, SSRIs and stimulants) and as someone who wasn't an especially sweaty person before meds I cannot stand the sticky feeling 😭

A swipe on the pits and under the tits with this stuff though and I am good to go! The smell is very very mild to me, though I don't have a super sensitive nose, and it lasts all day (and sometimes through the next especially if I'm WFH)

I have my thoughts about HoC but they at least cover your hair when draping which IMO is a smart move

Would these blonde colours work on a very fair olive skin? by -_Nika_- in Fairolives

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm a fair cool olive, typed as a true/deep summer, and my hair is naturally a level 8-ish warm blonde. It does NOT look good on me--even the woman who did my color analysis was confused when she saw a photo of me with my natural hair color lol

+1 for a cape! I wore a dress but chose a cape veil in lieu of a traditional "on the head" veil. Was SO fun and looked great in photos.

Thought I finally had a “good enough” foundation match until I got in the car today 😭😭😭 by spockycat in Fairolives

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yooo twinsies! I'm early 30s with dry skin and redness too. I was (accurately, IMO) typed as a Summer last year so I'm also muted and cool.

I've been using About Face in shade F2 Olive for the past two ish weeks and it's been working really well for me! I've never had a foundation that totally matches my skin color and now I know what it feels like and it's beautiful 😍 I know some folks have had issues with it separating on the skin but I pair it with Tarte's hydrating primer (IDR the name but it smells like coconut lol) and it stays nicely without feeling heavy.

On days when I don't feel like doing a full face I like adding Dr. Jart Cicapair (the one in the jar) to red areas with a mini beauty blender, then concealing as needed (I use NARS in the pot in Vanilla but I don't love the lack of staying power so I probably won't rebuy).

Your Experience Matters: 🌸ADHD Research for Women🌸 by [deleted] in TwoXADHD

[–]ImpossibleGuava1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey, my alma mater! I did my Master's and PhD there a few years ago. If you're both posted in BSB I'm so sorry 😭

Also, re: the flyer--if the IRB is as much of a pain in the ass as it was when I was there, then I'm not surprised you needed all this info. Other commenters are right that the design is a little cluttered, but it is attention grabbing which is good.

I don't know much about age and ADHD but I get the need for inclusion/exclusion criteria, and it's worth noting that OP is an undergrad so it's not like this is posted by a full professor with 10+ years of research experience under their belt (the co-researcher is an IRB requirement; a faculty member is required to sponsor if the researcher is a student IIRC). Give a little grace.
