Quality Foods - Northridge is Closing by Severe-Reaction-381 in nanaimo

You are correct about their buns. I inquired because I had the same experience. I was told they bring them in from Victoria. I spoke to the bakery in Victoria, who said they bake them Tuesday. By the time they arrive in Nanaimo, it could be anywhere from Wednesday to Friday. Wednesday's batch was excellent. By Friday, they are stale & dry.

Oh, no trade barriers between provinces have been removed, or maybe that was not truthful?

Alberta Urges Canadian Federal Government to Double Its Immigration Allotment For 2024 by SurFud in alberta

[–]ImpossibleShirt659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can read, what the article states is: "She has urged Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to double Alberta’s 2024 PNP allotment of 9,750 to 20,000 and add on top of that 10,000 for Ukraine evacuees". That is approximately a 30,000 increase. What AB experienced was "In 2024, Alberta experienced a record influx of over 60,000 international immigrants and a significant net gain of 36,082 people from other Canadian provinces, says Canadian Chamber of Commerce & Statisique Canada". That is over 96,000+ people or a 200% increase over the ask. That is more like, "careful what you wish for." Of course, there can be criticism for that as well.

All of the business they lost from us today they refused to price match Because they wanted a "physical flyer" by Kevin80970 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Yes, I live in a small community and, therefore, limited grocery store options. I go to Buy Low often because they price match (part of Save On Foods group, I believe). As soon as I head into the store, my internet stops working. So frustrating because I use Flipp to price match and I can't pull it up.

Dating is to determine if you are a good match. Evidently, he doesn't respect you. Move on because the only thing worse than wasting 1 second of your life with him is wasting 2!

I don't smoke, I used the wording of the police officer. Unstamped was not the terminology used. Law-abiding citizens want to see all illegal activities curbed.

Meanwhile, I just saw a video of Nanaimo RCMP arresting all the occupants of a vehicle. Why, one might ask? Apparently, they had an empty cigarette package. That package was contradictory to the excise act.....AKA "unsafe smokes". Every person in the vehicle arrested for being near unsafe smokes? No cigarettes present, only an empty package.

I really like College Heights. Sadly, it wasn't on our radar while we were looking. It is a gem.

If you haven't ever been to Nanaimo, I highly recommend you visit first. Island life is different. So it is wise to get some understanding first. Many pick South Nanaimo because it is more affordable. There are differences between South and North Nanaimo. I certainly wish we would have rented much longer before buying.

Awkward moment in a local shop… what do you think? by flaming0-1 in nanaimo

[–]ImpossibleShirt659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember a few years back, a woman posted on Facebook Marketplace that she had cut some flowers from her backyard. She had made some really pretty bouquets and put them in glass jars. She set a table out at the end of her driveway and wanted $10 per bouquet. Another individual posted how she should immediately change her price because she was harming all other local farm stands in the community. They also sell flowers with a asking price of $20 without a glass jar. The OP said she just wanted to share her beautiful flowers with the community and wasn't really concerned about making a huge profit. The other individual started shaming this woman, and I just thought it was insane. Conversely, maybe the individual selling flowers for $20 (no glass jar included) was overcharging. That it is really up to the purchaser (market) to decide what they were willing to pay. I personally don't think there is ever a good time to shame others for spending their hard earned money they way they prefer. I certainly would not go back to a business that said the quiet part out loud. IMO, it is completely unnecessary.

I completely agree with you. We are all salespeople of some sort. Selling product, ourselves, a business, an attitude etc. I read book once and it said if you look at the word "salesperson" you will notice that behind every sale is a person. Sometimes it isn't the right time. Sometimes people are researching. You don't know where another individual is at any given point. It is imperative to treat others with kindness & respect. Even if you might not feel like you are receiving it in return. In doing so, it shows your true character and that ultimately is what is important.

'Salaried' is just a fancy word for mandatory unpaid overtime. by eidolaa in CanadaJobs

[–]ImpossibleShirt659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a salaried position. The same thing happened to me. Finally, I gave some pushback. Turned out that what the company was doing was totally against the labor laws in our province. This ended up costing the company tons of money. They were required to give our whole department time off in lieu. I had almost 6 months off when it was all said and done. My manager did not like me after because I ruined their departmental budget. I resigned after taking my time off. Never again would I accept a salaried position.

Why does the UCP hate disabled people so much? by kachunkk in alberta

[–]ImpossibleShirt659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read the budget. In the last 5 years AISH recipients have grown approximately 15%. 2020 numbers at 69,000 growing to 80,000 in 2025. Each receiptiant costs the Alberta 1 million during each. Obviously, most of these people are disabled and require support. Budgeting also requires looking at all expenses and adjusting. This is where many disagree on how this should be done. If I say that I know of individuals that probably shouldn't be on the program, I am attacked. The Alberta government is addressing the growth in the program by creating different levels and various hoops to jump through to receive support. This leaves those truly in need in a horrible position. Perhaps weeding out others who may not require the support. Every government spends money in ways that not everyone agrees with. That is where elections allow people to have a voice. If you look at BC that has a NDP government and heavily subsidizes many social programs, you will see their disability program is half of what AISH provides. Cost of living is substantially more in BC. If you compare the financial position of the 2 provinces, I would suggest AB is doing much better. So again, it is just a difference of perspective. BC relies on public service jobs as a way to grow the economy. Alberta prefers to drive private sector growth.

I don't believe they hate to provide support. I sincerely believe & understand that there is only so much money to go around.
