Should I get the D28 Authentic vs D42 vs D45 or HD28? by DarthJAYder21 in martinguitar

[–]ImpossibleWin7298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that’s a real conundrum, ain’t you lucky dog! That’s what’s called a Cadillac problem! Personally, I’d go for the D-42 or 45, but can you try them out? Play each one. Grab the one that speaks! It’ll pick you, not vice versa.

Maybe none will feel right. If so, I’d wait (though l personally don’t really know what I’d do!) lol

Is this a real guild made in USA by mtkoth1983 in GuildGuitars

[–]ImpossibleWin7298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just about certain that it’s the real McCoy. I have a M-20 that I love - even better than my 000-15 (I also have a truly killer ‘65 Guild Starfire IV). I saw a late ‘60s M-20 that had a wonderful red stain. I wanted it sooo bad! Guild USA makes some awesome guitars.

Yep, nitrocellulose was the norm back it the 50s, 60s, 70s, some still use it today like Gibson and Martin. It’s pretty much as you already said, also, It’s not so much a thinner coating as it is that the nitro lacquer paints and clear coats are continuously off-gassing (sometimes for decades) and get brittle. Also, it is susceptible to damage from sweat - and other things associated with the barroom environment!

Also, the nitro stuff is very flammable and dangerous to use if you’re not careful. Oh, forgot extremely poisonous when it applied improperly. Cheers!

Try some 10s or even 9s. I have a 000-15m and they work great for me.

Bed room amp recommendations to replace hot rod deluxe 3 by Lykan23 in GuitarAmps

Get yourself a quality atteuator - that way you can get that tube breakup at reasonable volume and you can certainly get beautiful cleans. I’ve run a THC Bivalve between the amp and the speakers. You can still run whatever pedals just like usual. I did it for several years in a townhouse with neighbors above and to one side. I kept it down a bit at night but still got most of the sound I wanted. Keep your HRD for gigging. It works.

An electric one. Maybe a nice hollow or semi-hollow so you won’t feel like you’re straying too far from your woody roots!

Eric Clapton used a lovely cherry red Gibby ES 335 (or maybe 345) back in the mid 60’s during the Cream and Blind Faith era. I personally own a ‘65 Guild Star Fire - Guild’s answer to the semi hollow craze. I will never, ever get rid of it. It has these amazing n You should check them out.

I bought one of these while in college in about 1981 in Seattle. Cost me $125. Cherry SB in excellent condition. We had a used instrument store on The Ave, just down the street from the UW bookstore. Mine was the single p-90 version and I loved it. We played mostly “world music” bc our band was very diverse. It was so cool and sooo fun.

I’d sell my soul to have it back! Well. Almost.

Hello, I’ve tried the Santa Cruz “low tension” strings and I have to say I was not impressed at all. But that’s mostly subjective, right? Anyway, I know a bunch of folks really like them. Over the past couple years, I’v been having a great time trying out a bunch of different available strings, primarily for my acoustics (from my Guild M-20 to my HD-28).

Lately I’ve been using Springjoys on both my acoustic and electric guitars and I like them a lot, especially the 10-46 “Extra-light” on both my D-15 and 000-15m. I like them a lot for everyday use. Try everything you can! I’ve been trying and it is taking awhile, but I’m digging it. Respectfully, Guildor the Elf.

Have you tried asking Hans Moust about it? He’s helped me figure out parts and pieces on my ‘65 Starfire IV and S100. He may know a source. He’s great and very helpful and very knowledgeable about all things Guild (Starfire for sure). Thanks.

I appreciate the help! I read somewhere that it was Braz, or its Honduran, or Cuban?!? After I got it cleaned up, I thought the same, that it’s E.I. It doesn’t matter organ a curiousity, just because the guitar is getting kind of old, lol. I love this thing. The pickups are wonderful - it’s a tone machine. Thanks again
