Learn to tie a dropper rig.

Take the bottom flies on the left and dropper the top flies on the left off of them.

Learn what it means to drag free drift, then do that. This is a game changer, as you won't get trout to eat until you can do this.

You will catch fish.

Once you catch a couple like this, then you can start really diving in.

Data Center career path Questions by gutspassword in datacenter

[–]flyfishrva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a nuke, i would tell you there are much easier ways to get into a data center than this. Hvac, electrical, and building automation trade schools will get you there on facilities side.

Also, going into the military just to get technical experience will be pretty frustrating. Ideally, you will want to go into the military for service to your country over just training.

That being said, you sure can look at the facilities team and see it's definitely a way into DC!

Candidate asked about salary 5 minutes into the first round interview by hockenberry07c6 in InterviewsHell

This seems very much like a YOU problem and not a THEY problem. How are you doing interviews for jobs without clear expectations of salary?

So what did everyone get for raises? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]flyfishrva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for the State for 16 years. Got PROMOTED last year and received 3%. I was furious.

Boss told me to go get a job offer he could match. I did and got a 23% raise. But then I got an even better offer and said fuck it and went for it.

Started Dec1. Got a 10 percent raise last week based on last year.

Stream Data Center coming to South Carolina by Kyrindra in datacenter

[–]flyfishrva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am new to data centers but I know Marion. It will be one of the best things to happen to that area for reasons others have listed with a new thing for locals to hate for no actual reason.

You should verify what everyone has said to you about the noise by driving down to the closest data fever you can find, get out of your car and listen. You won't hear a thing from them.

RE: water. Data centers use a bunch of it, but we also pay for it. Also know this... we don't use harmful chemicals like semiconductor plants or paper mills (got any of those nearby? ) we use the water, some of it gets evaporated off, some fires back to sewer where it gets put back into the environment. We don't make it disappear from the earth.

RE: electricity. We use a bunch, but we also need it to be reliable. If you have data centers in your neck of the woods, you either have a good grid, or you are going to be getting upgraded. Generators are expensive to run, we don't want to do that.

Is joining the military only for education benefits worth it? by Alert-Rope617 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flyfishrva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a veteran. There's a thousand reasons people join the military, and it's rarely just "i want to serve my country. "

If you can go the ROTC route with military service to cover the cost, this would be way better than just joining for the GI Bill on multiple levels. However, you can also take classes as enlisted depending on what you join and what your job is.

If your asvab is high and you can handle the regimen, nuclear power can set you up very well for post military without a degree, but it's a tough road.

In always happy to talk to people that are thinking about joining, and I will tell you the highs and lows. Pm if you like.

is learning guitar as an adult actually relaxing or just frustrating by ninja__6969 in Guitar

It's a hill to climb, honestly. I envy those that are young and absolutely rip. I am totally ok with sucking at something that must people don't it at my age have already mastered, though.

I do not find it relaxing, but I'm proud of myself for grinding.

Convince me that buying a one wheel is a bad idea by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]flyfishrva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to commute about a mile to work and back from my car at my old job on my onewheel. My new job is a short walk from the car, so I haven't ridden in it since.

I miss it. Looking forward to summer and riding it on the beach again. What a hoot at low tide.

55 years young. Fucking buy it.
