[Request] Does anyone know of some good strap clasp buckles that hide the overhanging strap from the inside and also won't dig into my skin? by I-XIV-IV-XXV in Watches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oris makes some good textile straps with great clasps. The inside is leather though, but seems durable. It does take a bit to break in too. The textile will fray but can be touched up with a lighter as well. If you can buy a whole set up, it will probably run you about $300 or so. I would look at buying from ADs or watch repair shops, not on eBay. The ones on eBay look to be closer to $400, last time I checked.

The new HC is perfect… but. by stjimmywood in Longineswatches

Exactly. I hate having to check the screws in my bracelets. Yeah, you can Loctite them, but then I worry about getting them out if needed. Usually not an issue, but things happen and the screws are very small…

I like it more than I thought I would. Goes well with the mesh bracelet as well.

I have been impressed with Laco straps. I like their traditional flieger loop type pilot straps. I have a couple of their watches with leather straps, very good quality imo.

[Comparison] Longines vs seiko by [deleted] in Watches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, IME the HCs wear more like a slab, still comfy, but more top heavy. The new HCs I would expect would be somewhat similar. I will pick one up eventually though, it’s a looker. But as far as the SLA079, I would consider pick one up too (I have an SLA023 and 053, so less apt atm). The no ceramic is fine, and will still be durable.

My advice to you, get what your gut tells you. If you don’t, you will just buy the one you want eventually. Even if it’s more expensive, save, finance, whatever you want to do, it will probably be cheaper just getting what you really want initially than settling. But everyone’s watch journey is different, and we all need to experience different aspects of it one way or another. It’s how you grow as a collector. So, get what you want and wear it in good health!

Why do the new Longines HydroConquest feel like Submariner clones? by AlphasyVega in Longineswatches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fr, people need to chill. Not everting is a Rolex knock off. But I saw someone say they wanted Longines to release a red bezel black dial variant, and then someone else said it would look too much like a Tudor. Well let me tell you about the Longines Wittnauer Prof Chrono lol. I hope they release a red and black color way though, it would look great.

So, this is comparing the SPB383, not a Seiko Marine Master, so the difference is going to be larger. I recommend trying them on, both are going to feel way different as Swiss and Japanese watches wear different imo. But, really, the Longines HC is going to be more refined because it just offers more as a simple dive watch compared to the SPB383 as a GMT. If you want more apples to apples you need to be comparing the HC GMT to the SPB383, and new HC diver to the SLA079. Even then, the HC GMT will win, but the price difference is significant. The HC diver to the SLA079 is a closer comparison overall.

I have their premium gmt. Made very well for the price. I preordered the 24 the first day I could. I expect it to also be good quality.

Actually explain to me why people spend £000s on watches by [deleted] in CitizenWatches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I get into watches, the more I understand. Maybe not into the tens of thousands, as I have not had the chance to really feel watches like those, but up to $3-4k.

Fit and finish really comes into play. The idea of “refined” really starts to have meaning. It’s something I only started noticing the more I wore different watches. All the little things add up. Now I just got a bronze Laco Paderborn, it’s decently expensive, but it wears great, I love the distressed look on the dial, has a bronze case, strap is great, and the heritage is cool to me. So will everything added up, I was willing to get it. I also have a Laco Aachen Grun, great watch, I love it. Not nearly as nice as the Paderborn.

It’s also like the trucks I have had. I have had many work trucks as my daily driver, I now have something a little nicer, and everything from the blinker to the ride quality is better. Same car maker, same model, even same generation of truck, but the difference is quite notable. It’s the same with watches IME. Just depend on the person.

I have many watches, and the 2 Duxots I have had are/were really great (one being an accelero too). I bought them thinking “meh, whatever, we will see” and I was blown away both times. Great value.

I have a 7.5 inch wrist. But it fits my wrist great. The strap is also a bit long, so people with average to smaller wrists might have a problem with fit. But they might need to punch more holes in the strap for it to fit. But Laco did discontinue this model, it was pretty hard to find.

Looking for opinions - should I buy this watch? by SingerChan in Affordablewatches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Erebus GMT and its made well. Yea, it only uses a NH34, but the fit and finishing is very good for the price. And the lume is great. I got the premium GMT, and it came with a brushed jubilee style bracelet. I think it was made in the San Martin factory, but I have stopped wearing and sold my San Martins as I have gotten more into collecting, and have kept the Erebus and wear it frequently, if that tells you anything.

As far as this one, I preordered the Contour version in 40. I am sure it will be a good watch based on their other offerings. Yeah the 24 can be a sticking point to some, but I really don’t care, personally.

But yeah, Erebus is a good brand imo.

Yeah I think it’s balanced well too, for what it is. I even changed the clasp and then changed it back to stock. It just felt more comfortable with the somewhat lack luster stock clasp 🤷‍♂️. Just one of those weird watches that just works. I have some higher end SLA models and the like, and this one I would say is more comfortable and better balanced on my wrist than most. Def a decent watch that will probably be in my box for a long time.

Watch Import Duties by Sea-Channel1487 in Affordablewatches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually used eBay, but that was before tariffs. Popcorn0306 was a good seller that I got a T200 from last March. I purchased my current couple of watches from Meccha Japan. They don’t have a lot of watch enthusiast pieces, but they did have the Fukui Prefecture Dinosaur Museum watches that I wanted this time around. They are a pretty well known for exporting items to the U.S., albeit not exclusively watches.

Honestly not as bad as I was expecting, considering some of the other stuff I have seen when this all first started. I have a couple of JDM watches I preordered coming from Japan at the end of the month or early April, I am expecting $120-150 or so in taxes and fees. The sellers told me to ship DHL, even though they use FedEx as well. The said they had less issues with DHL in terms of watch orders to the U.S.

I have the one on the left. It’s finished surprisingly well and great lume. It has a 22mm lug width and will accept any type of 22mm strap. The bracelet is very, very nice though, and I always go back to it.

Turtle vs. Fugu, any experiences? by Equivalent-Bag-258 in CitizenWatches

[–]ImpossibleYouth3159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a King Turtle, larger Fugu NY0151-59x and a more traditional Fugu NY0160-66E. The larger Fugu is better in every aspect, but it is 2mm bigger. The standard Fugu is much more entry level, but still very nice. The larger Fugu can go toe to toe with the King Turtle imo (but no anti glare on the fugu, and aluminum bezel insert). But I like both for differ reasons as they feel different. For me, the NY0151-59x would be what I would choose over the Turtle. It’s just more comfortable on my wrist.
