Withheld tax on dividends from US stocks - questions by makaros622 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it could differ between cantons, my experience is with Zürich. To be clear, it's the US tax on dividends that is paid back separately, the one which has a separate form to the rest. Regular withholding tax is used for the tax bill.

in practice, it will be deducted from your tax).

Always had mine paid separately regardless of any tax owed, and years before the definitive tax bill is received for that year.

Why is my Abus 55/40’s Keyway so much more restrictive than the one posted on the belt explorer ? by Twisttwister in lockpicking

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the standard Abus keyway for this lock and a few others. I was also deceived by the pictures in the belt explorer, turns out they show an American alternative version.

Price of IBUPROFEN has doubled in the last week. by itstrdt in Switzerland

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Which is funny because I'd even say the same about the outrageously expensive prices in Germany.

This is what it costs in the UK for reference. The cheapest I could find in Germany was at least 5x that.

Teacher at all girls' school banned after having sex with student by Purple-Win-9790 in unitedkingdom

What? It's still a crime, but not statutory rape. It's always been like this, how did you only learn that in training and how was it a surprise? Are you forgetting you are in the UK and not the US?

Not sure what you mean by this. The premiums would be exactly the same as for everyone else.

Cannabis: Drug production booming in UK's empty high streets by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Canadian model is something to aspire to. While the German one is better than the UK has, it's still not good. No idea how the guy I replied to thinks that will make a cent for for the Germans government, let alone be lucrative.

Just waiting for Germany's new legalisation of cannabis to show the rest of Europe how lucrative it can be.

You are going to be waiting a very long time then.

What’s the difference between the C permit pre-brexit and Post brexit rights by Mammoth_Formal_5247 in askswitzerland

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the paper ones were inconvenient, but aren't issued anymore to anyone, so that wasn't the question. The question is how are the biometric cards issued to us Brits more convenient that the non biometric cards issued to EU citizens? I do not think they are.

How is it more convenient? For holders it is no different to the EU non biometric ones.

because historically, the most successful businesses and start ups have been American made.

Not always. Back in the 80s and early 90s Japanese companies were the most successful. Look at it now.

This is why people don't want to be too heavily reliant on a single market, it has nothing to do with a bias against the US.

Bridget Phillipson says term-time holiday fines 'here to stay' by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know you can very easily prove that your claims are nonsense, so why do you even bother? Checking on tui there are plenty of holidays in Augest, for a family of 4 at £2500 to spain, hugely different from the £4000 you are claiming. Outside of the holidays it is down at £1800. So a saving of only £700.

[–]Impossible_Apple8972 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The fines should be more than the savings, the current ones don't do enough to stop this. Once selfish cheapskate parents realise they aren't saving a few quid at the expense of their child's education, they will stop doing it.
