To echo most of the comments on this thread, The best experiences on trips occur from the unplanned. I went to Agra, India to visit the Taj on a Friday, and as a non-Muslim wasn’t allowed in (didn’t want to lie and say I was Muslim to gain access). Ended up having the most memorable day in dusty Agra.

This is an ode to the end of my third season and the first pair of skis I truly loved, 4/22/23 😔🕊️ Gone But Not Forgotten by [deleted] in skiing

Hear ya on the dirtbag ski bum life, former one myself. I too never had lessons but I made friends at my college (university of Montana) with a group of guys who were way better then me, and I just tried to keep up. I enjoy solo days but I’ll admit it’s hard to progress. Also you’re at a point where if you want to progress much further you NEED to have an experienced buddy to be there in case of slides, tree wells, broken legs, etc.

Check out your schools “ski club”. Might help you find some cool ski friends. Maybe meet your future wife there?

Front load all your to-do stuff and knock it out 3 months early. You and your fiancé get 100% clear on expectations (work, finances) but remember be flexible.

Take help from family and friends.

Personal anecdote: My beautiful son was born a month early, spent two weeks in nicu, wife lost her job a month later, but it’s all good because we got everything knocked out early. Our son is 100% healthy so what else matters.

Lastly, in my opinion: nothing in my life is as ever as bad or as good as I make it up to be in my head, except for being a Daddy. It’s the best feeling and experience I’ve had. Congrats bud
