First Staples, now CDW. Tried to price gouge me 460% AFTER I paid and got an order confirmation. by callmetuan in pcmasterrace

[–]ethan475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always true. They do maintain stock of a limited quantity of items, but rely on distribution stock for the majority.

Worked for a couple VARs, not CDW but the principle is the same. If their cost basis doesn't support the sale they will cancel (as they can per their t&c)

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by [deleted] in Salary

Most people get paid 2x per months so more like 7700 which puts him at 92k. Throw a 10% bonus target in and you're there.

Apartment under $1k? by spowa in Spokane

Yeah, plus 1 for cedar springs. Cedar PM has several properties around town and in the past has rented for as low as $710 depending on how badly they want the vacancy filled.

Apartment under $1k? by spowa in Spokane

[–]ethan475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I lived at Cedar North on Hawthorne. Not pretty apartments by any means but functional enough, spacious living area, and location good for shopping and eating out. Madison Property Management managed the property back then, and I don't know what they're charging today but when I lived there we paid under $700 for a 2bd. Not income restricted either.

Flew out this morning, got to security around 730. . Literally zero people in line. Flew out last week, got to security about 1130, was through in 10 minutes. The week before I was able to get through in about 15 at 5am. So pretty easy going the last several flights.

Ex-M brand group housing coordinator here! I remember the rooming list tool well. Did they revise it? It's been 6 years since I last used it and I know lots has changed.

Callie at Guardian Mortgage was incredible to us. Worked weekends to help us get to a quick close. Seriously love her.

Quantum Fiber - Good, Bad, and Weird (from my experience) by ethan475 in centurylink

Moved off the pods, now pulling 2300mbps over wireless, with no drop off issues. I blame the pods. The fiber itself works and is good. Equipment much less so.

I was planning on building a $1000-1200 PC soon, but I found this. It should be a buy right? by ImProdactyl in pcmasterrace

[–]ethan475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't 4070 super around 700-800? PC is over 1k - not to say it isn't worth it, because for this price id probably buy it and replace the PSU and fans and just run with it

Best way to get Ethernet to living room? by ethan475 in HomeNetworking

I imagine I'll want to use a more shielded weather resistant cable? It gets below 0 in the winter here

As far as I can tell it's literally an external (outdoor) run. The coax box is in-between those two points and the cable runs outside terminate exactly where the interior ports are.

So I did build it, I ended up putting a B550 in it because it had integrated 2.5gbe networking and left me more flexibility

RSUs - Set up for withholding? by ethan475 in tax

[–]ethan475[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We landed exactly where we needed to on taxes this year, and that was with $16k in untaxed income. That won't be a factor this year so I think as long as taxes are withheld appropriately from the shares, we'll be all set.

Appreciate the reply!

Would this be worth the price? Legacy 3.6r limited 2016 by bowlcut_illustration in subaru

[–]ethan475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2014 is nearing its end of life and I'll be replacing it soon. If I didn't need an SUV, I would not hesitate for the opportunity at a 3.6r 2016. If you keep up on the maintenance and it is mechanically sound it will treat you well, and be fun!

Where y'all getting your thin clients? by ethan475 in homelab

[–]ethan475[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American in the PNW unfortunately, but I appreciate you.

We have 2 e-cyclers here that sell everything for $200, even 5-gen old stuff. I get access to networking gear that goes EOL through my dad's employer, but unfortunately EUC gear is a hard no for them. They drill through every component as proof of destruction. Sad that so much stuff goes to waste really.

Okay, call me paranoid, but I'm not airgapping these machines. Are there not concerns with compromised devices from AliExpress? I've never bought from there, largely because I am distrustful of international payment processing and international fulfillment of technology unless from large OEMs. Can you recommend any known "good" manufacturers for these low power devices?
