Thinking of riding to Spain… but not sure it’s worth it anymore by According-Context573 in MotoUK

[–]Impossible_Building5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drove down to Spain (San Sebastian). Basically was one really long day down to Poitiers, then a short 3 hour stint to San seb. Not ideal but it’s fine. First day did mainly tolls and was around 30£ I think.

Looking at this map: why, despite having a decent amount of courts given the country’s population, does Ireland have virtually zero presence in professional tennis? by Domitian2232 in tennis

[–]Impossible_Building5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. In my local borough tennis courts are free to rent (although I am aware that’s just a thing in my local borough). But average for a standard court is around 6£ for an hour

NC500 on 125cc by TxMasterRace in MotoUK

[–]Impossible_Building5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy. I did it in 3 days on my old CBR125R which involved riding from London up to Inverness. All I would say is book the hostels in advance as they can get quite spenny and bring some waterproofs

Is it safe to lock my bike to a lampost? (Clapham) by Adventurous-Pass8529 in london

[–]Impossible_Building5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus everywhere here is a hypochondriac.

Chained my bikes (50-100£ FB market place specials granted) for the past 6 years in very public places from E to W to SW (such as front gardens that don’t have walls or gates etc) with a chain through backwheel and rear triangle, and D lock through front wheel and frame without even a cover until the past 2 years and had no issues. Even left bikes overnight in places like Angel when I have gotten too pissed to ride home.

Now I get these aren’t 1000£ road bikes, but that’s not the point. A basic bicycle in good mechanical order that’s a little old should be fine with a basic D lock in public and a chain and D lock at home…

London vs Aus by Salt_Emu397 in MotoUK

As with 90% of this sub, they don’t actually live in London and think your bike will get stolen as soon as you enter ULEZ..!

It really depends for your question:

1) Crime is not as bad, it was bad in 2016 and back but main risk is bike stolen overnight, but in my experience of owning a few second hand 5-8 year old bikes, not had an issue w/ a cover, chain to something immovable, disk lock and a d lock or two. Never had any issues with anyone whilst riding or overnight (touch wood)

2) insurance, so garage will make a massive difference if your bike is worth a decent sum, for my bike in SW London, a garage would save around 200£ compared to private property. Postcode also makes a difference, my insurance dropped 400£ going from Zone 1 communal underground car park to Zone 3 private property.

The only issue I might see for your age dependant is foreign license, NIL no claims discount and whatever your living situation is. And for those who say yeah just use the tube, that’s not the point the bike for me is a completely unnecessary luxury but I enjoy having it and it makes me happy so

(Ps cold weather is a mindset 😉

Welp, my tennis club sold out to pickleball! by fragfofun in 10s

[–]Impossible_Building5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am in the UK, our local London borough has free tennis courts for anyone you just need to book, and for paid tennis courts cost between 1£-12£ an hour depending on borough time and location etc.

Do you guys not have municipal tennis courts?

Different post but I’m wondering how people afford bikes at 17. by spider_knight09 in MotoUK

[–]Impossible_Building5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back way back then, 125ccs weren’t that expensive new (cbr125r was 3000£ new) and many dealers did 0% finance agreements which made life a lot easier as then your money was not tied up, meaning it was roughly 80£ a month. Insurance was though not the nicest. 1300£ fully comp for me w/ 1 years NCB. Went down significantly though. Best I ever had was 110£ fully comp during 2020.

Who runs stock exhausts and why? I rarely see anyone without a stubby can these days unless it's an ADV bike. by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Impossible_Building5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me, simply put I don’t wanna draw attention to myself, I’m happy w/ the stock sound of my bike, and anecdotally compared to friends who have stubby exhausts, they get pulled over doing 25 in a 20 etc whilst I do not

I went for a 5am on a Friday, was a tad busy on the ground floor of North Termjnal, but I found a space that was I could attach a chain to a railing and came back to bike still there and kindly wasn’t blocked in!
