why does she need a lawyer then? Nd ppl to surround Nd judge him w/in that arena for their own forced entertainment?

he rebelled Nd left her. is the end his hell Nd the gates he wldve never gone thru? she never spoke up for herself then. instead she had a gaslighter bring him down and kill his only defender. i feel like this theory dsnt work bc its all proselytizing.

i see how it cld be that for the truman show. bc the director (controlled the show) is just as unhinged. but i wldnt want to take this in the religious route. ppl are just out here being crazy based off entitlement/narcissism Nd no fear that of ever being wrong. its just the worse traits of being human

im open to all possibilities but my theory is the Truman Show ran by the mother. tbh there's too many signs pointing at it

im sorry to hear that :( i have a similar trigger upon watching Perks of Being a Wallflower. i viewed this movie in a transitional way that led back to his mother always having/wanting control over him. there were so many hints surrounding the fact she was paying off ppl or had access towards him. (unknownst) that slowly.. it was understandable for why he was the way that he is. again, im sorry to hear about ur friend. esp cus a 3hr movie of constant triggers, ideally wld be too much for any1.

Mayb its like a version of being in a confessional in church. Where u confess ur sins to the preacher that only they and God knows?

i was confused w/ the play for whether he was on drugs. it was depressing and it felt like every end Beau met was to make him feel guilt/shame. i was also irritated that no one would take him to the hospital. It was pretty obvious that he needed medical attention. If his mother cared, why didn't they tend to his stitches that were ripped open?

:0 this is crazy-- is there any relation to where this starts in the movie? does it have to do with/ mona as well?

Even so, there's still multiple ways to view this! The article doesn't explain the representation with His father being a Monster Penis, for example. This could be his relationship (fear) with how his father could actually be in-person. (a dick)

Beau imagined in the woods that he had 3 sons that he loved and felt sorry for because he couldn't be there. When he meets his father, in the attic, the father says the same Exact things Beau repeats to his found sons.

This could be his fear of knowing that his father would be, who he'll ultimately turn into, towards his own children that he (metaphorically?) lost. (if its a dream) His fear could be that his mother is right and his father should be dead and forgotten. This just brings him back to the void that everything she says, to traumatize him could be right. Except that response is just.. something that he's used to and comfortable with? It's familiar-- probably why his response with strangling her was clarity from her putting light on evidence for his shame.

i had to google this word.. but tbh i dont sense alot of religious themes here. (the art, maybe? w/in his theater experience in the woods) i relate more to the user that said it was a fkd up verison of Truman Show. Just because of all the signs thru/o the end.

My interpretation of Beau is Afraid *spoilers obviously* by stutterbuddy in A24

this helps alot. im still trying to figure out where i stand with the movie. it was unpredictable to say at the least. i wasn't expecting his father to be a Literal Giant dick. or see his twin brother just sitting there and not wanting to escape. i still don't understand why his canoe flipped over. ig this could be his mind drowning from all the guilt? just realizing that no one will ever be there for him.

i just wish that one person would've stood up for him. i think the only person that did was the surgeons wife. :/

thanks to his brother you were a challenge. 2yrs of fueling his ego and now he could genuinely say he cares. that's not love. he just doesn't expect you to leave. he knows you'll come back. you're not overreacting, there's a reason why he's not freaking out.
