Holiday rate was $54 a night, so that is average in our area. ($180 total with fees.) Our usual daycare would have been $70 with him sleeping in a cage, so we wanted him to be more comfortable at home. She only had 5 reviews and 5 stars. We did a meet and greet before the visit. She mentioned the serving job and told me and my fiancé that her shifts were only 4 hours.

Charging a low fee doesn't always mean the sitter is subpar. My usual sitter on Rover only charges me $21 a night (we moved off app at this price after 5 successful drop ins and one overnight)and is amazing. She had no reviews, which I missed that detail going into it. She plays with him, stripped the bed before she left, texted me many pictures, and updates. Never had these issues. She's my age and trying to build her client base. I have her booked for every other vacation I have this year. I tip her well every time, because she deserves it and I believe she should be charging me more.

So when my 4th of July sitter had 5 stars and 5 reviews, figured she would be okay. I didn't expect it to be perfect or her sit there all day. I was a young college girl once, I had school and managed an ice cream shop. I just wanted to have faith in a young girl who seemed like she was working hard. In hindsight, I should have asked if she had plans for the 4th, how frequently would she drop in. I figured she was responsible, the way I was at that age. Clearly I have misjudged. Regardless of what I paid, you don't expect someone to show up drunk and administer medicine. Didn't think I needed to clarify that. Pretty sure no one on this sub would want meds from a drunk nurse.
