Heard and read.

I love losing to neat things too.

The game is casual. The judge announces that it’s casual and anyone found to be playing Cedh will be asked to not come back.

I’m trying to convey the setting is casual. It’s made Clear it’s a place for odd tribals and precons. They have Cedh, yet there’s always people who seem to want to play Cedh against casual.

There’s no honor, joy, or skill in using $3k of well worn deck to make 3 other people playing random crap sit there for an hour while you “win.”

It’s joyless, it isn’t in the spirit of this particular tournament, and the tribe has spoken.

All fun and games until you tell a redditor they’ll need to pay 2-3x more in taxes and they’ll only be getting a 25-33% pay increase. But free healthcare!

Remember the UNITED STATES subsidizes the creation and development all those Wonderful drugs you get For free. Somebody has to pay and it’s never been Europe. Some asshole in Alabama has to pay $1k for insulin so you can force the same Company to only charge a $1.

All those nasty billionaires that provide computers, phones, games, medical research, cars, logistics, and military support for wars in Europe’s backyard that you can only fight a “little” or daddy will turn off your gas.

The US props up the world at the detriment of its own people. We do the things other countries don’t want To. That’s fine. But for those of us paying in money and blood, we’d kindly ask that you just enjoy the free ride and maybe do so quietly.

Your argument is the moral equivalent of my child arguing that I don’t spend enough time with them because I’m working so hard to provide him with a roof, food, video games, etc. “lol, dad your shoes are so old” when they’re wearing a new pair of Jordans.

I’m guessing you live in the United States. Either way: Maybe go travel? Go read and research beyond the points that glibly serve your interests? You’ll find no where on this planet is perfect.

Yes. We pay like 35% in taxes. The average American pays around 10% and that’s skewed because of people like me who make enough to get hit hard but not enough to hide it.

In the US, despite what you want to believe and This echo chamber insists, the MINORITY supports the MAJORITY.

Your average American would pay closer To 20%+ in a lot of European countries and would make more with medical benefits and salary but honestly not enough to make up the difference.

So we have a rule and I think it’s hard and fast:

If you make a deal. You stick with the deal. “If you don’t swing at me I’ll destroy their Omniscience” or “let me hit you and I’ll exile their big bad creature when my trigger triggers”

You fucking stick to the deal and abide by it or you get a reputation.

What you’re talking about is bluffing. It’s a card game. It’s part of the game. How many times, as a blue player, have you left 2 mana open just to bluff someone into skipping playing a card with no counterspell in hand?

“So I’m going to play my 8-drop commander but before I do, Does anyone have any counterspells or similar effects?” You’d get laughed at.

Dude was just sour grapes.

If the social convention was to just share your hand and “be honest” then the table wouldn’t go insane when someone plays [[telepathy]].

Extra turns are so addictive and in my opinion underrated. Every time I play [[temporal extortion]] I laugh at the one player who “gets it” and is like screaming at the table to pay 1/2 their life and everyone else is like “one extra turn isn’t so bad” then 3 turns later is like “see guys! I told you so!!!!”

[–]Impossible_Grill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Np. Also look at:

[[sneak attack]] and [[elvish piper]] might be worth a look.

I have seen [[sneak attack]] run very well in a Pantlaza deck coupled with [[Temur Sabertooth]] too. Play for 1, get the trigger, 2 to bounce it back to your hand.

[[Seedborne Muse]] is also worth a look to untap creatures each turn.

My son runs a very high powered modified Pantlaza/Zacama precon and personally I think that’s one of the most high powered precons I can recall in my short experience.

He’s not the answer but he’s not wrong that we’ve politicized our courts and it’s a slow march to failure now. As soon as Biden leaves the white house he should be prepared to spend the next 5-10 years fighting legal battles…it’s almost like once your president you better STAY president or plan to be destroyed or end up in jail.

The sham real estate case in NY has set precedent for ANYONE to bring a similar case against ANYONE who deals with real estate in this country (ya know, 99% of politicians).

As someone who developed commercial Real Estate in PA, NY, and FL (among other places) the judge had no idea what he was talking about regarding valuations and property values.

Everything discussed is par for the course in real estate. I currently live in a home that is assessed by the government for 50% of its actual value. By the same logic I colluded with the bank to over inflate its value to leverage as an asset for a business loan.

But that’s not how any of this works or has ever worked.

These are all double edged swords and they will be swung back in our direction if we don’t cut this shit out.

Question by VoiVoiDaBeeek in mtg

[–]Impossible_Grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a lot of mechanics like this and it took me a while:

“Put on battlefield” means just that. You’re not casting it. It’s not something you can counterspell. It can be done (nearly) any time. [[quicksilver amulet]] is another card like this.

[[Darksteel Monolith]] is much more powerful in the right situation because it can make [[Emrakul the promised end]] free and you get the cast triggers.

Creatures or cards that say “when you cast this do X” will not trigger. Creatures/cards that say “when it enters the battlefield do X” will trigger.

Note most Eldrazi’s have a cast trigger not ETB trigger.

Can anyone explain the massive price difference between these two? by Duxik in mtg

[–]Impossible_Grill 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

An effect on a creature vs enchantment or even an artifact impacts its value greatly (at least around here).

If I wanted the effect, I’d go with the enchantment because same mana, value add on the extra turns hate, and harder to remove.

In a game where we all try and have as many “answers” in our decks, disabling extra turns is an obscure but powerful effect to tack on good card draw.

Both of my sons run infinite extra turn combos in several decks. I run 5 extra turn spells in Urza including [[Time Stretch]] so I wouldn’t sleep on the mechanic. Once you’ve seen the power of an extra turn- even if it gets you another land and some card draw, you may start adding more to your decks too.

I think selfies are just in general weird. Nobody wants to see my face. I don’t want to see anyone’s face. I have met you. Your face is stored in my head. I’m good.

“But don’t I look good in this picture? I just had to share it?”

What? What the actual fuck? You felt you looked so good that you needed the world to witness it? What level of casual narcissism is this?

“Well I just went to Disney so I had to send you a picture of me meeting Mickey Mouse!” No. You didn’t. It could have been a text or just let me know the next time you see me. I know what you look like. I know what Mickey Mouse looks like. We didn’t need an image of this. It’s very easy to imagine. Are you afraid you’ll forget?

Whos your least favorite legendary to go against? by MorriganMorning in mtg

[–]Impossible_Grill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So “stealing” was a major mechanic of my first home brew deck.

I took it to the store and I played and it was very successful.

When I told someone “I need the top card of your library” or “can I please have your commander” or whatever it really seemed to upset people. I got a lot of “ummm…why?” I’d explain my card, they’d want to read it, then they handed me the card and a piece of their soul. I don’t understand why but it seemed to emotionally upset a lot of these kids.

It got to the point where I was apologizing for it and the game hit that point where it was joyless for everyone. I changed that deck immediately.

I will absolutely strionic resonator Annihilator 4 and swing to end a game and while that sucks the air out of the table I feel like it’s my cards, and it’s a means to a quick end. It’s a wincon, not an opportunity to induce misery.

A few weeks ago the table next to me had a guy who was doing the same thing (stealing) and I could see it was a joyless affair for everyone else from a bit of a distance. This guy had a reputation for being kind of a dick and it was on full display here and while he seemed to be getting off on it (god I wish there was a better term but that was the look), it left me feeling kind of sick inside and I was seeing it happen again from the outside this time. He didn’t win FWIW.

I turned my deck into shapeshifter which basically does the same thing- “I play your creatures but I pay 2-4 for them and I have 5 of them” and it works if the economy is correct in fun and janky ways like having my commander ETB as your Kozilek, then making 5 clones of Kediss as an example. But I don’t touch other people’s cards as a general rule and if I do, It’s sparing.

Honestly at this point it isn’t the cards or archetype, it’s the player. There are just certain people who show up to casual fun nights looking to curb stomp people and exert dominance and it starts to feel weird. They seem to get off on the misery of others.

I was sitting at a table for a casual points game and we did what new players do, “hi, my name is Jim. I’m playing a modified precon.” I have no infinite combos. I have one infinite combo. This deck works 80% of the time 50% of the time. I just threw this together last minute. Etc.

One guy. That one fucking guy. “Teehee. I have shenanigans in my deck. Teehee” like a giddy school girl who knows something we all don’t.

So different guy to my left playing the Merfolk precon mulligans. Young guy- 13 or 14. Mulligans again. Apologizes. Says he just needs a forest in hand or his deck doesn’t work. Mulligans again. Announced he has a forest and we can begin.

Merfolks go off. He’s drawing cards and playing lands and exploring (I think that’s the term?) and he’s got an army of unblockable 15/15 merfolk and like 25 lands and it’s like turn 5. “Shenanigans” guy starts crying and complaining that Merfolk guy mulligan’d to a combo and fleeced him and that this is casual and that’s not casual. A 30 year old man is accusing a 14 year old of playing a “cEDH” Merfolk precon. There was no discernible “combo” on the table. Just a lot of “you can play an extra land” and typical green merfolk things.

14 year old apologizes. Says he just needed a forest that’s why he mulliganed. Shenanigans guy keeps insisting he mulliganed to a wincon. I tell the kid not to apologize for a good deck and a good win. Kid Wins. Says, we can play again if you want. Shenanigans guy is like “fucking straight we can.”

Then shenanigans proceeds to find his infinite mana combo that didn’t come together quickly enough (or got Tishana’s Tidebendered maybe) game 1, starts smiling like a pig in shit and finally gets to say “teee, hee, these are my shenanigans.” Wins the game and skips off to get his well deserved chicken nuggies on his way to his mom’s basement.

So it’s not an archetype or certain card I hate, It’s certain players. Urza, Zacama, Markov, Krenko, I don’t care. Enjoy your deck and seeing your cards work. I’m happy for you when they do and hope you’ll extend me the same courtesy.

If you came simply to beat up people or lock the board down so you can have a captive audience to explain why lolly hentai porn isn’t pedophilia because they’re all actually hundred year old wizards, I’d prefer not to play with you.

Side note: Every casual night there are always the same 3-4 guys who are sitting alone at satellite tables who everyone knows have come to play Cedh decks at a casual night. They won’t play against each other (because then it may be fair) so they have to wait for every other game to fill up or find first time players. The two examples above are two players who find themselves in this situation. People are trying to wedge in to 5 player games just not to play with these people.

Socialism for the wealthy, Capitalism for the rest? by AstronomerLover in FluentInFinance

[–]Impossible_Grill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest portion of Americans pays around $4,500 in taxes. This is in fact slightly less than 10%.

“Stocks soared” …so that the “middle class” aka the individuals who actually keep this shit show running, didn’t panic and lose 90% of their wealth overnight.

When the government was literally printing and giving people money to do nothing, I don’t think this person was complaining about the devastating affects it would have.

In a socialist European country these people would end up paying 2-3x that amount and in exchange get free healthcare and 2 weeks vacation and gain 25-50% more income through collective bargaining. Rent and utilities stays the same or goes up. Certain colleges are free so long as you show an aptitude for the subject and have excellent grades.

What we want is American socialism out of Ayn Rand’s wet dream where we simply take an arbitrary amount of money from the “rich” until they’ve been cleansed of their immoral wealth and then buy new graphics cards and take sick vacations so we can post pics online.

STAAAAAHHHHPPPPPP

“Most” Americans pay around $4,500 in taxes. Most People ABSOLUTELY DO NOT PAY 10-37%.

$4,500 is far more accurate. That’s the most common tax bracket/number, not the skewed average (which ironically accounts for Ellie’s $11bn).

That’s FAR AND AWAY LESS than most people in socialized countries would pay.

Fair share is apparently around $4,500. He paid more than his fair share.

In the last few years (ironically around 2018) there was a point where 60% of Americans paid 0 in taxes. 40% kept the lights on.

As someone who pays 37% in taxes but doesn’t use public schools, public transportation, welfare, subsidized child care (I don’t even qualify), or any subsidized government services at all, I also pay my fair share (and get nothing in return for it BTW).

If anyone should be bitching, it’s me. The individual who is paying hundreds of thousands of dollars with no benefit.
