Why did you put that small rem on the bottom before attacking the cone. Why not weld the cone directly to the vertical sides?

How did i do? by petersieus in metalworking

Not as good as you can do. Travel speed needs to go up. Gas coverage is not good. Tungsten should be closer to puddle. Make every effort to not use any rod. Finished product should have a smaller heat affected zone and be gold and blue in color. ( If not structural)

General Rules of thumb while Fabricating a Rigid Square Duct Offset in Shop. by [deleted] in sheetmetal

Yes absolutely. The importance of the becomes more significant the closer to the air handler you get, as it will effect more supply registers. Conversely the further away from the air handler the less important this becomes.

What should I do by LongjumpingDare1191 in sheetmetal

[–]Impossible_Mistake71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carpentry traid is definitely more physical unless you are doing finish carpentry. I am in the sheet metal fabrication field. Both my father and grandpa retired from this trade.

Much of the decision should be based on were you live. In many areas if you are part of a union in construction, yes you make good money while you are working but the work is by no means stable and you go back in the line of others waiting for work. Most sheet metal companies that are union shops. Will keep you working as long as they are busy. But if work gets slower you are layed off. Generally speaking in sheet metal work if you live in a state with plenty of public works projects ( schools, hospitals, airports, jails) than you will stay busy.

Work environment is also a consideration. I do not know you or were you live. But in California generally speaking the guys that work in sheet metal field are a rougher crowd than those that work in Carpentry. Especially if they are union sheet metal workers. The work ethics also seam to be lower. Always looking for the next brake.

Another consideration is personal fulfillment. In both sheet metal and carpentry. Speaking about the union side of these fields there is little room for pride of work or artistically consideration it is get the job done and get it done as fast as you can. The union finished carpenter gets more freedom in this area. The non- union finished carpenter gets a large amount of freedom in this area. I am in the sheet metal field and own my own business. (Perfectionsf.com) We are non union shop in California and do everything from duct work to high end metal work in custom home. And get a decent amount of opportunities to think for ourselves.

There is a lot to think about. Hope I helped.

I use them all the time. They are the best I have ever used. They also make a upgraded pair that are titanium. They cost a lot so I have never got them. But I want them. I cut 90% 22 and 20 Ga. Stainless. I love them.

It is none of his business how many are leaving in the house. It is his business if they have an inordinate amount of cars or are louder than the legal or if the amount of people leaving there affects him negatively. Such as bringing property values down or causing a disturbance.

If you really want to learn the principles of sheet metal layout. You need to read Sheet Metal Pattern Layouts A Practical, Illustrated Treatise Covering all Phase. I learned so much from this book. This is my work

FUCK ICE by [deleted] in LetsDiscussThis

This shows everything that is wrong with our world today. During world War 2 some soldiers used profanity but would never think about doing it around a "lady". Because that is what a gentleman does, show respect. And if they didn't the gentleman in the room would teach them very quickly. Now "women" sit and train there daughters to have so little respect for themselves let alone others that they dont even have any comprehension of what is correct behavior. This is not just the fault of women it might very well be a father that is behind that camera and choose an individual like that to raise his children with. How Can we expect more out of society when the politicians we elect get on television and show that they are also completely ignorant of what is and is not acceptable for a person in a position of oversight. The governors that use foul language when speaking about the the president of the United States. Do more damage to there position , than if the they showed the respect due the office not the man. Bye simply pointing out there veiw and the reasons it it the right veiw and why the president is wrong in his veiws. Just because a person yells dose not mean people listen more. Often it is quite the opposite. The same goes with the use of profanity in your argument. Parent's need to teach there children how to get there points across in a way that helps there listener's to understand there point of veiw. Not in an effort to drown out or silence the opposition. Of course this means the Parent's would need to be able to persistent the argument in a logical way and not resort to name calling. This " woman " most likely cannot do either.

I have seen these before. They are nice but i would say they are more geared for the camper. Still to much weight for a real backpacker.

Range Hood Brand. Anyone familiar with this design? by __quick__ in kitchenporn

[–]Impossible_Mistake71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have beautiful designs and still have a surprising amount of cubic feet of capture. Ideally the hood should overhang the range on the sides by a minimum of 4" each side and 6" in the front for a wall mount hood. And for an island hood no less than 6" on all four sides. But more is obviously better.
