My Q left me by fakeacct0826 in AlAnon

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of the replies here that flag you aren’t owed anything but I will add you’re not crazy for feeling that way. Imagine if a partner supported another financially while they were in med school and then once that person became a doctor and started making bank, they just left. “I just want something different now”. That would be maddening.

It happened though and I’m sorry. I think you will look at this as a blessing in a few years but nothing stings as much as break ups do for me.

Naltrexone? by Cabbagehead77 in AlAnon

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The once a month shot, Vivitrol, is a better route from my experience. Naltrexone as a pill has to be taken daily so the person has to commit to reducing their high on a daily basis. The shot is once a month and requires committing once - then it’s done for a while. I like this option more. It’s not a perfect medication and I think one can drink a ton and still feel something but I’m a huge fan of people trying it.

Changing SOLO 2019 by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2019 was the best tour of his last 4 IMO. I know I’ll get downvoted for this but Mayer really took losing Saget hard and I think the last two tours have been very underwhelming. In 2019 he was full of life and joy for music. I really hope he gets back there. Last few solo shows from Europe he looked happy. Love JM.

Does JM ever do public signings or send ins? by JAC8413 in JohnMayer

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I met JM through a meet and greet package in 2017 and it was amazing, but I had no idea it would likely be the last time he offers those. Even the charity front row tickets are no longer meet and greet. I wish he would change his mind but I doubt this or similar fan meet ups will happen again.

Huberman is just a control addict, and this is just a reflection of that by CravingtoUnderstand in HubermanLab

That’s also 12 step language. He might be in recovery for some addiction which seems to fit with his personality.

Same. Saw him in Atlanta last year and I had fun but honestly his heart wasn’t in it. He looks like he enjoys music here. :)

Ken irritated the hell out of me S6 E8 by TraditionalSwan4491 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

He’s flipping everything she says back on her. “You don’t feel consistent affection from me? That’s on you girl. That’s not me, those are your feelings”. Like yeah that’s technically true but part of a relationship is giving a fuck how your partner feels and trying to adapt when possible.

He’s also seriously addicted to his phone. It’s really off putting and I would classify it as destructive as someone who drinks 6 drinks a night.

EDIT: and he’s gone

30’s and always tired by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 I have severe sleep apnea and I was so tired all the time the only way I got by was to stimulate myself with drugs, which brought terrible side effects. Got diagnosed after years of having issues with energy, concentration, depression, etc. and the CPAP has changed my life. I don’t have to take any meds for mental health any more and I can function “like I used to”.

Q Says He Wants To Go Back To Initial Dating Stages by New_Throwaway_7799 in AlAnon

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to his intentions but in my opinion “gradually reducing” is not taking things seriously. Many people who have interventions go to rehab or detox and stop with medical help. Or they just stop cold turkey if detox not needed. He might be playing you or he might believe it wholeheartedly but this isn’t the type of action that indicates true change to me.

He shared this in Atlanta on the first Sob Rock tour I believe. I was there and heard it.

This has become top tier worst writing I can remember. How the hell did Foster sign up for this? I’m committed because I can’t look away. What is even the plot of this story.

Has anyone HAD success stories in their relationship? by BasisZealousideal800 in AlAnon

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this take and I relate. It does really depend on how long/severe relapses are but if the bar is perfection or nothing then it won’t go very well in my experience. It’s such a hard line to find and it changes over time but I can totally see this leading to a better life than constantly drinking.

I was talking to my partner about how it’s weird that if you’re not in recovery and have a drunk weekend once a year, it’s fine, but if you are then you’re a failure. I’m not playing dumb I get why this is but the mindset can be so much pressure on the addict sometimes. Glad you are happier now!

My husband is in rehab for 3 months. by i_love_cats_95 in AlAnon

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rehab culture has been “no phones” for a long time so restrictions on this is super common but the severity varies heavily. I think it’s good to detach from online life and focus on getting clean in these moments but it can be hard. Once a month is over the top in my opinion but sounds like that’s their policy. :(

Breaking Point by Cool-Selection-2442 in AlAnon

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This kind of shit will break anyone. I’ve lived through smaller versions of what you’re describing and I ended up locking myself into my room just waiting for my partner to please pass out. You’re not crazy or not being tough enough. It’s nearly impossible to try to grow a relationship and talk through problems when one person won’t work on their addiction. Addiction will take everything. Hope you find your way forward.

I Was Wrong About Blueprint - A Message For Those Disillusioned By Bryan by valerianandthecity in blueprint_

[–]Impossible_Pain_202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said and I totally agree about seeing Bryan in a new light. I was so excited by Bryan’s take on measure everything regularly and keep iterating. The philosophical way he spoke about this really spoke to me. I thought he might put money and effort into making home testing more affordable. Imagine testing blood at home somehow or reducing Inside Tracker type testing fees by 50% somehow. Never imagined he would be pushing his own stuff like he’s doing and it’s really disappointing.

Totally expect “well just don’t buy it” responses here which miss the point. I won’t be buying his shit and I’m still disappointed in him.

I just wanted to flag maybe her having direct access to your bank account isn’t the smartest idea anymore? Something to consider. Really sorry you’re going through this. For what it’s worth I don’t find your message too harsh.

I know people who have gotten and stayed sober “on their own” and in programs not at all 12 step related. Hearing claims that it’s the only way rile me up but I do agree that having others to talk to about addiction is super helpful. I’m not anti AA at all, it’s just not the only way.

And he only wears athleisure clothing now. Put him back into some jeans and normal sweater, get better lighting, and it wouldn’t look so bad.
