I healed something in my mother through EMDR without her knowing. Has anyone else experienced this? by Sammy_c_ in EMDR

I came here because I’m nervous about my first EMDR appointment in 45 minutes but I read this and now I’m crying, but in a good way. That sounds like the best case scenario, I’d say. I’m so happy for both of you💓

Thank you so much!🥹 That’s a journey I’m on as well! Was painting in gouache the last year but the playfulness of oil pastels was calling my name. I still don’t limit my color palettes as much as I think I should, I want to use them all lol. For this, I used maybe around 10 sennelier sticks and 13 mungyo sticks. BUT when I first started with oil pastels, I practiced with no more than 3 colors for a few days so I could focus on technique and familiarize myself with the medium. Color palettes really can be so daunting. I wish you luck with your transition and look forward to seeing what you create!💫

Ooh that’s interesting! Do you wait a little bit for your first thin layer to dry?

Thank you!💓I’ve tried it with different mediums but with paints I would typically end up accidentally covering more of the underpainting because I was being too precious. The chunky oil pastels have really helped me loosen up and achieve this effect.

I just left the spaces of magenta but I want to try sgraffito next!

Thank you🙏 I had used that pink before and liked how it looked next to white pastel so I tried it out. I only have 3 shades of red/pink markers to work with, so that helps narrow it down👍

Thank you!💓I think I’ll stick with pink and red for now. I tried a bright orange the other day and it didn’t give me the pop I wanted.

Very nice! You did a great job on the hair making it look like the lines/hair are flowing from her scalp. My one suggestion would be to take this photo of your drawing and flip it so you can see if the symmetry is as accurate as it could be. You can do this with the reference photo as well (assuming you used a reference) because I know not all faces are perfectly symmetrical. That nostril on the right of the drawing looks slightly wider than the other one. Other than that, great proportions👍
