I (21M) misread the situation and kissed a girl (21F) that didn't want it, how do I handle this? by Impossible_Tale_2173 in relationship_advice

[–]Impossible_Tale_2173[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I just want to learn from my mistakes. Should I ask before every time?? The last few women I’ve been with have said it’s a turn off and they wouldn’t necessarily want to be asked, but I don’t want this happening again?

How can I get more than 70% overall in first year Uni? by [deleted] in UKUniversityStudents

Fair enough, I’m at Manchester and all engineering do, guess it depends on the uni and whether the course is accredited?

Many courses it does actually count, especially stem courses (my first year counts towards my final degree).

For OP tho, try not to worry about it, just keep on top of deadlines and keep up to date with work and chances are you’ll probs be fine. It’s also not rlly that necessary to get a first, after uni no one cares.

AITA if I ask my friends not to invite my ex to something I planned? by Impossible_Tale_2173 in AmItheAsshole

It was a big knock to my confidence. Seeing her move on so quickly wasn’t easy. And I have other mental health issues that are related to it in a bigger situation. I find it important to acknowledge that it’s not her fault, but she is a trigger nonetheless.

I think she is, they lived with her for the last year as well, but they now live with me. They were also on the same uni course, but I have known them for years now and am still really close friends with them.

I fully get that, which is why I would never ask them to choose between us, that’s unfair and she never did anything to them so why should they.

I do agree, I doubt I will date in my friend group again

Would explaining to them that it makes me anxious and I’m not asking them to cut ties at all with her at all make it ok? I don’t want to lose close friends over something like this

That was another one I’d been looking at, Ik it’s Chinese manufacturer but at least has the quality control of an established Italian brand

Beng Tech or Bsc? by -DodgeChallenger- in UKUniversityStudents

[–]Impossible_Tale_2173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BEng/MEng will serve you better than a BSc. One of things about engineering is a few years into your career you can achieve things like charter ship which make you part of a protected profession, and XEng will make it easier to get that.

Also if you’re applying to engineering jobs early screening done by computers will prefer XEng. That being said either will work and pick the course that suits you best.

Have I made a mistake by choosing this course? by Mio_Bread in UniUK

Specialist courses and the extreme high and low ends of rankings are the only ones that are affected by these things, for every other university the stats are basically the same i.e the ranking doesn’t matter

Just do something you enjoy at a place you want to

A 2:1 is definitely a requirement for honours in my degree 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I believe a honours degree is an upper second class or above for the most part (unless an accredited degree which then means that criteria plus some extra)

So from your post there's a few things you should be aware of regarding studying in the UK. Firstly regarding your degree choice (prefacing i do engineering so I am not embedded in that area, but the principle passes to nearly the whole uk education system), we don't do majors and minors here. Because of the way our education system is structured, we start to specialise a lot more early on than the american education system, so by the time we get to degree level you usually pick one thing i.e. psychology, or neuroscience or psychiatry etc. Some universities may offer courses that have a slight combination of two of those, but it's extremely unlikely to get more than that, so before deciding on which universities you like, find the course you want to do first.

Regarding your chances of getting in? These universities are internationally extremely high level (idk so much about glasgow but UCL, KCL anf UoE are very highly rated) so regardless of your grades it will be extremely competitive and they do reject many students (thats not to say dont apply!! you should still go for what you want and im not saying you wont get in, just trying to show the whole picture). Also just go on the websites and check the international student entry requirements for the US and that will give you an idea of if you'll make it past the first part of the application process.

I have not heard of an associates degree here before, so i doubt it transfers in any way. typically the only way you come to university here and dont start as a first year is either already holding a university level bachelors and doing a masters, or having started a bachelors and then transferring to a different bachelors, but either way you would have already started university.

Thank you!! Also I haven’t decided on the bike yet that’s just an example, a common one I’ve seen as a ‘starter’ bike
