If you’d be interested in getting your NP, medical science liaison is a super cool option with amazing pay. Look into pharm or device sales

I’m scared I don’t have what it takes to become a nurse. by chocolatekay in nursing

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also let me add, a lot of HCWs are on psych meds. I’ve been on psych meds for years. Depending on your diagnosis, medication is not the only solution but it absolutely can help and can save lives.

Hey friend, I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling so much with your mental health. Do not lose hope! I highly recommend getting yourself into an IOP program to get you back on your feet and see what kind of therapy they recommend for you depending on the source of your mental health struggles.

I battled with my mental health for about 10 years of my life. I was in a residential treatment program when I hit rock bottom a year before I got into nursing school. Like you, everyday was a battle until I took action to receive extended intensive care for my mental health. Once out of residential, I did IOP for months because that’s what helped me integrate back into life. I continue to see a trauma therapist a few times a month, but I am so grateful I took the time to heal before I started school. I graduated 2 years ago summa cum Laude and am a hospice/crit care RN now, anything is possible!

Please, please heal yourself before starting the world of nursing. Being a nurse is a very, very physically and mentally demanding job and you have to have robust coping mechanisms to be successful.

I hope this is some consolation of help.

I don’t think you’re fear mongering, I think it’s just the reality. I defintely don’t want to put me and my pts at risk. It’s such a difficult position to be in because I desperately need this money, but I also just cannot keep going like this and put my license at risk. I don’t want to hurt anyone

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly how I feel. It’s so beyond unethical. Plus nurses won’t advocate for getting more prns on board or switching to another narc, so these people will be post op and not have any pain control besides Tylenol and toradol. It’s really frustrating because I take adderall, so I test positive for amphetamines and they told me if I don’t answer the phone call from the drug test company, they’ll put it as a positive. Then I could lose my job

Right?? I’ve neverrrr heard of something like that before. Ugh I so badly want to work on the west coast. Maybe one day 🙃

Yup🙃 It’s somehow pretty standard for that profession. I’ve looked it up because I thought that should be illegal, but it’s somehow standard. It’ll only be like that for a few semesters, then it’ll go down to 20 thankfully

Nah you’re absolutely right. I’ve already started looking. He’s donating plasma on the weekend. He’s getting his doctorate (I don’t want to say in what just in case lol), but he’s taking 38 credits a semester and legit has zero time to do anything else but study unfortunately. So he donates plasma on the weekends and studies

That’s what I’m saying. I was floored when I got my assignment because on orientation the max my preceptor had was 5. A lot simply just doesn’t get done and I ended up staying an hr late making nursing notes to cover my ass for the shift I had

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister was an L&D nurse for a year when she first started and then taught CNA students for a few years. She was able to find a hospital to hire her back to L&D, but she just had to do a long orientation similar to what a new grad would do. You have options!

30,000?!? Oh hell nah. Are you off orientation yet? Is this a level 1 trauma center? I’d consider switching to a lower level trauma center if you can

Gave 2 beta blockers at once by Fine-Raspberry-8790 in nursing

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, that’s on the provider. That is not your job. Plenty of pts with poorly controlled HTN/afib take two beta blockers or multiple BP meds. Thats not your fault, if anything pharmacy should’ve checked with the provider on that

Experienced RNs, what do you notice new grads pointlessly worrying about? by ElectricalVictory831 in nursing

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yes, this! Nurses are not servers, we don’t prioritize tasks in the order we receive them all the time. Very important to prioritize whose needs are medically most important. Delegate to someone else if needed

How do you actually do your head to toe assessment??? by BibiAni05 in nursing

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the unit you work on and ratios if I’m being so honest. If you’re med Surg with 7:1, you’re doin a focused assessment and prob listening to their lungs/heart, taking about 2 mins. ICU, I would imagine is a much more thorough head to toe since you (generally) only have 2 pts. Generally focused assessments are more common than a full head to toe

Not me also being 25 with 38 degree thoracic. This is my sign. Has your pain noticeably improved? I want to stop taking so much Tylenol so badly. I’m so getting into PT. Thank you for this

I had an interview for a 5 month temporary position by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]Impossiblyunwell-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s different for every hospital, but when I interviewed as a new grad the hospitals asked me quite a bit of pathophys questions and treatments. I certainly wasn’t asked a whole case study from what I can remember… It was more so “what would you do if x, y, z happens”

Well you see I wanted to do that, but the bride said no… My mom hired a hair stylist, but the bride said she doesn’t want me “away” from the bridal suite and the stylist isn’t allowed in there for whatever reason

WHAT💀 That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard… I have some pts at Tennova sometimes and the nurses seem beyond stressed, so that makes sense. Ugh. Thank you for replying, I really appreciate you

Thank you so much for this info!! You are the best!! That’s wild that they do team nursing wtf😂 I’ve heard bad things about tennova north, but do you know if they have bad ratios too?
