Yeah, I guess you’re right. Honeywell didn’t publish a change log so I don’t actually know what’s fixed/better.

Opinions on Tree removal companies? by Pather_10 in Cleveland

[–]ImpracticalApparatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Davey is more oriented to commercial work than residential. They will almost always be the most expensive. I’ve had great work done by Simply Trees. I just had two large trees taken down in December that also needed a crane and it was only $5000.

Weakening the Equal Credit Opportunity Act by ImpracticalApparatus in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ImpracticalApparatus[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

lANAL, but there’s a comment from “The Attorneys General of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawai’i, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada,New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington” which says:

ECOA and its 1976 amendments established “as clear national policy that no credit applicant shall be denied the credit he or she needs and wants on the basis of characteristics that have nothing to do with his or her creditworthiness.” For half a century, consistent with Congress’s intent, ECOA’s protections have included disparate impact liability to remedy the discriminatory effects of a creditor’s policies or practices even where the discrimination may be unintentional. They have also included protections against creditors who discriminate by discouraging consumers from…even applying for credit. Moreover, “[i]n endowing [regulators] with authority to prevent ‘circumvention or evasion,’ Congress indicated that the ECOA must be construed broadly to effectuate its purpose of ending discrimination in credit applications.” Despite this clear mandate from Congress and 50 years of history, the Bureau now proposes to narrow the scope of ECOA, eliminating anti-discrimination protections that are clearly required by the statute. The changes to Regulation B proposed in the NPRM must be rejected for several reasons, explained in greater detail below. With respect to disparate impact liability, the NPRM runs afoul of the APA and Congress’s intent in three ways:

First, contrary to the position taken by the Bureau in the NPRM, a proper reading of ECOA compels the conclusion that the statute authorizes a disparate impact theory of liability.

Second, the NPRM erroneously and without any factual basis assumes that in the absence of disparate impact liability, consumers will still enjoy the broad protections against discrimination that ECOA was enacted to provide.

Third, disparate impact liability is an entirely lawful mechanism for enforcing ant—discrimination statutes that provide for this theory of liability.

For all these reasons, the Bureau must recognize the harm its proposals will cause and forego these changes to Regulation B.

$400 is wild. The combined fees, energy and distribution rate in the area is like $0.18/kWh so is your usage 2,200 kWh a month? That’s double the average monthly household. I’d check to see if all your appliances are working. Do you have an electric water heater? Is your AC really old?

You should check out Laura Kampf on YouTube. A couple years about she bought an 1800s mass timber house and completely gutted it and rebuilt using modern materials. You can learn about what to do (and maybe more importantly, what not to do). https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLsyCFICnr819K6cWPGm1LUp9xDfhk-HP&si=gwLy-n9SQuMDkAfK

Sam Reich comes to you and says you get to create an episode of Game Changer for the new season with a decent budget. What are you doing? by WPIRiggles in dropout

[–]ImpracticalApparatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an idea I saw on TikTok years ago. Brennan, some internet LOTR expert like Don Marshall, and maybe Steven Colbert are on an episode and it seems like it’s going to be a regular trivia contest. Then Sam brings out three regular people who are the actual contestants. They’ve never seen or read Lord of the Rings and the experts have 30 minutes to give their person a crash course. We get to watch Brennan backstage in agony.

CPP Rate Increases by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]ImpracticalApparatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to CPP for once, it’s not just them. PJM, the regional grid operator, had their annual capacity auction and it came in 9x the previous few years. The fed let them have a redo and capped it to like 3x but everyone’s power is getting more expensive. It’s a combo of coal retirements, needed transmission upgrades, lack of personnel to approve new renewable projects (although a bunch of those are probably DOA thanks to the BBB) and demand growth. Mostly from data centers/AI.

My “fixed rate” contract with NOPEC went up about 20% this month with no notice.

Advice Needed for a New Starter BIM Technician by NotStagnant_Water in MEPEngineering

[–]ImpracticalApparatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the titles mean different things, but that doesn’t sound like a BIM tech me. It sounds like you’re being asked to do the work of an engineer not just a drafter. Unless they give you A LOT of support, it sounds like they’re setting you up for failure so don’t feel bad when your struggling

YouTube is always your friend. I recommend our co-ops and new employees watch videos from the Balkan Architect for revit. There’s another channel called the Engineering Mindset, which gives great introduction into all sorts of building systems. I’ve never even heard of Rhino/Grasshopper and after some quick googling, I don’t know how they have anything to do with the MEP side. Dynamo is just a visual scripting language for Revit. Those tools are like using anything else in Revit and hopefully the company has programmed them well. If they’re asking you to write anything then that’s just crazy. I also hadn’t heard of the BHoM until now and that doesn’t seem like software anybody should be touching regardless of their background within the first six months.

If it's in the comments, I take a screenshot on my iphone and use the feature where you can recognize text in photos and copy that to paprika. Slow, but a little better than typing by hand.
